need clarification on T5-U upgrade token system.

Greetings fellow captains i'm looking for more information on how the upgrade tokens function before investing.

I would like to know if the t5-U becomes an account wide unlock for that one specific ship variant upon activation or if it is a one time use per each individual ship owned?

depending on how this system functions will determine if i ever attempt to upgrade the tac scimitar and sci vesta variants which i still cherish beyond all other trek designs ingame.

Thanks to all who are willing to indulge me with answers to this inquiry!

Its an account unlock for the specific ship. If you upgrade the Scimitar (tac) on one char, you can do it for free on all chars.
You can however not upgrade the falchion or tulwar for free, as you only unlocked the Scimitar (some people have a problem understanding that even though they are sister classes, they are different classes).

Also, if the ship is a fleet ship, or has a fleet version, upgrading either should unlock subsequent free upgrades for both types.

Yeah, using the Scim or the Vesta line as examples, if you want all 3 types to T5U that's 3 separate upgrade tokens that you need, not just 1 token, because although they're related, they are each different ships.

All correct. The upgrade is a permanent account unlock for the ship-type and includes both the fleet and non-fleet versions where such exist.

For example, I upgraded a Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit (Fleet T5 Defiant). Now, any Tactical Escort Retrofit on my account, whether it is Fleet or not, shows a free upgrade.

However, you still need to pay the Fleet Ship Module cost to buy a Fleet variant on any character; it is only the T5U upgrade itself that will be a free account unlock once you pay for it on one ship of that variant or the fleet version of that ship.

Also, not all T5U upgrades are created equal (a stupid choice on Cryptic's part).
*If you're starting with a 9-console ship for example (such as some C-Store ships), after the T5U upgrade it will only have 10 consoles and the equivalent stats of a 10-console ship.
*If you're starting with a 10-console ship (such as a Lobi or Fleet ship), after the T5U upgrade it will be an 11-console ship and have better stats than a 10-console T5U ship.

This isn't necessarily intuitive to a lot of players--Cryptic should have just made any T5U variant upgrade turn into the same 11-console version instead of making T5U10 and T5U11 as separate things, e.g. Fleet Defiant vs C-Store Defiant--but the long and short of it is that if the ship you're upgrading has a fleet version, you want to use that as your base upgrade because the end result will be T5U11 which is better. (Some C-Store ships start with 10 consoles though and don't have a Fleet version, so they go direct to T5U11 anyway).

Yeah, upgrades are account wide (can't speak for fleet ships).

I purchased the upgrade token for the B'Rel Retrofit flown by my KDF tac toon a while ago. I recently claimed that ship for my new KDF sci toon and it can be upgraded for free.

Just to clarify things, for my own sake to know if I am understanding this right:

    1. Using a ship upgrade token is an account-wide unlock.

    2. It will affect the tier 5 version, and a fleet version (if applicable) of the ship.

    3. Fleet ships are still character-based and thus must be bought on a per-character basis.

    4. It will only affect one ship if the ship is part of a three-pack (such as the Scimitar, Vesta, etc)

    5. It will only bump a ship up one 'level', a 9 console ship will become a 10 console one, while a 10 console one becomes an 11 console one, so beware.

    Sound right?
