I don't know, TOS already boldly went into some terrible stories.

    Comedy gold, but still...

Star trek has had some awful, embarrassing and stupid storylines over its many years/series, i personally didn't care about dinos with frikin lazer beams.
In all honesty if we now as a species found some way to create " cavemen ", we would have them fight for us, working in hard labour jobs, we wouldn't care, so why would an highly evolved race like the voth care?.
Now if we had space TRIBBLE's that would be really stupid!.

    Yes. They can get worse.

Just waiting for the inevitable "Jump The Shark" moment when Cryptic introduces the Na'kuhl "Space TRIBBLE" into the game. Hell, when they were shown on Enterprise, you just knew that it wasn't just the TV show that got a bullet in the head, but the entire Trek franchise just got euthanized.....

Hey, they could also take Lizard TRIBBLE's from inside the earth *and* Dinosaurs.

Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
    unfortunately:

    NOT LOYAL ENOUGH!!!

TOS did have the flying jelly pancake brain invaders - that's what killed Jim Kirk's older brother, Pornstache Bill Shatner. So they could do worse than dinos with frickin' lasers, and still stay in canon.
That's deliciously hilarious. I'd almost like to see that happen. I mean if it weren't for REDACTED in Delta Rising.

What are the exact conditions on the Voth ships or the Dyson Planets? What things other than lasers on their head could you cybernetically graft on a Dinosaur?

    Ummm, Aft Torpedo s fire?

There is not enough sonic showers in Starfleet to get rid of the stink of that cyber-dino torpedo off of you.

EDIT: And speaking of mitochondria powering dino laser weapons, might as well go all "Parasite Eve" with it and have mitochondria mutant monsters to fight as well.

I'm nervous to think, could the developers do worse than dinos with lasers on their heads?

Yes they can. WoW did kung-fu pandas. And I'd assume that Blizz has a better "Is This A Stuipd Idea?" check system than Cryptic. :D
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.

how to beat dino's with lasers?

have a 9 year old dream up the next critter/mob type.

that is still one of the stupidest things ever, dinos. literally facepalmed when i read that in the blog way back...mentioned it to a few friends and they were like huh? seriously? one had a clever quip

'is cryptic stealing syfy channels plot ideas?'

he was pretty dead on, that is something i'd expect to see in a syfy movie. not in trek. though considering how retro 1950's style the polaron pistols look...no military anywhere would use half the weapons in sto. too loud, bright, too easily spotted over great distances...

protip designers, look at military weapons of this age and extrapolate. gaudy doesn't work. bling doesn't work.

"Tired of being tagged, the Epohhs reveal their true selves..."

Actually, Expansion III would reveal that Tribbles are the main villain of STO and the Iconians were just trying to save us from them.

Epohhs are just Tribbles that have admitted they have legs. They'll eventually unveil their Tkonian nature, though.

Actually Epohhs are just the food supply, building supply, starship structural material, radiation shielding, and a bunch of other uses that the Romulan Republic use them for. There is actually 1001 uses for Epohhs.

Tribbles have enslaved the minds of thousands of Starfleet Captains. Klingons have a natural immunity to Tribble mind control which explains the hatred between the two races. Only recently have Tribbles created variants that are powerful enough to enslave Klingons.

Can we do worse? Yes we can. How about those swimming space creatures? You have to herd them in one of the Tau Dewa patrols. Perhaps something could live in space, but swim? They should have some other kind of propulsion system, something like jelly fish on earth have.

Though I like the Voth battle zone, I always feel sad and sorry for the big dino. Such a beautiful animal and only we can do is kill it.

I would like Space Hippies to be implemented in STO. You would want to be one, BTW. If not, you're a Herbert. If you don't know what a Herbert is, you probably are one.

Not exactly what the OP asked for, but this is how it could be worse:

We find out that the LaserDinos are the resulting of genetically forced evolution at the hands of the Voth, and that the original DNA came from humans who've traveled above Warp 10 and evolved into salamanders, as seen in the fever-dream/episode known as VOY: Threshold.

I just made the current ingame Laser Dinos appear less crappy for those of us that don't like them.

    You're all welcome.

They're called gekli and they come from a next generation episode

I kinda like them. They're cute. Dr Who had a space whale, and new age people in the '70s and '80s used to talk about dolphins as being psychic aliens that swam between stars. I always thought that was where the hitchhiker's guide version came from.

That would be the low point for me.
