Gaining Access to Fleet Gear

As my efforts to improve my performance in STFs and such, and experiments with different builds to that end, continues, I've been thinking about trying to get my hands on some of the unique Fleet gear I've seen and heard about.

Among the things I've seen and heard around on the forums and in game, is that there are apparently fleets set up specifically so that you can just stroll in to purchase Fleet gear.

How do those kinds of things work? Is it set up like the DPS channels where it's automated? Like, if you ask for an invitation, you get automatically invited into that fleet? Or do you still need to talk to a player that is actually apart of and/or runs such a fleet? Or have I heard incorrectly, and you're still expected to actually be a full member, no matter what fleet your join?

Couldnt you just join a t5 fleet, contribute enough fleet marks and other stuff and get buying privileges eventually? Its what I did and it makes sense to me that most fleets dont let people stroll in, buy stuff and leave.

    So...just join a fleet? :D

To get fleet gear you need "provisions" and fleet credits.
Provisions come from fleet projects and fleet credits come from contributing into fleet projects.

So in case you are not part of a fleet with at least a tier 1 fleet holding which grants the stuff you need you cannot get provisions.
In this case the best option is indeed to join a large fleet, contribute enough to get buying privileges then spend away.

In case you are already part of a fleet AND have the necessary provisions and enough fleet credits then you can just join "NoP Public Service" chat channel and ask for a fleet map invite there. When you receive the invite you get to their fleet map where you can buy fleet stuff using your own provisions.

    Hope this helps.

As a fleet ambassador to a large alliance of multiple T5 and newer fleets I think I can help.

Firstly I caution you, only tactical consoles maybe sci consoles and warp cores.. no weapons.. the crafted weapons are superior, locator tac consoles are the best IMHO

so I recommend finding an alliance or a t5 fleet that hosts an alliance..

example: I am a fleet ambassador for "The Infinite Nexus" we are allied with other T5 fleet but more importantly we have new fleets as well.("The Infinite Alliance") Our members bounce between fleets, smaller fleets they contribute to projects, earning fleet credit, then when ready they come back to a T5 to purchase gear.

Not only does this allow for access to massive resources and ability to get gear but massive profit (EC) as well... Not to mention having endless pro players and teams to work with...

Feel free to message me for more info/invites or find a lfeet/alliance that works as such.

I agree with pewpewphazors. A fleet can be a good source of gear but belonging to a good fleet can also provide you with a group of people to discuss gearing/builds and participate with you in STFs; These two latter perks of would probably do more to improve your STF performance.

If you are intent on going it alone there probably hasn't been a better time since the revamp of the crafting system. If you have been developing your R&D disciplines you can make weapons that are likely to compete with or exceed the capabilities of their fleet counterparts because of the more desirable mods. You are probably already aware but it's worth mentioning this is costly.

If you still want to "rent" from a fleet that really depends on who you are dealing with. You need fleet credits and have to contribute your fleet marks to the host fleet. I'm not certain but an invite from a fleet member should get you onto a fleet property. You may have to join temporarily to gain permissions to purchase gear. Some fleets you don't want to join might expect you to pay them for use of their facilities. Some players may join a fleet then jump ship with everything they can carry if there is a probationary period once they get out of it. Some fleets might take your "usage fee" then tell you to get off their space station. I've also heard of fleets that get people to donate to their fleet projects then boot them from the fleet.

I'd caution you on the "rental" process because a lot of things can go wrong and there is a possibility you could end up shafted for your time or resources. I'm sure there are a lot of good fleets out there who would be happy to deal with you openly and honestly and there are some that might not. Whatever route you choose learn a bit about the fleet you are dealing with, get to know them and you might even decide you would like to join them :).

Not trying to hijack the thread but, NOP public service is usually how these people get what they need, besides actually being in a fleet that has all the access they ever need!

Resources and fleet credits is mainly what you need, along with dilithium to boot for mostly everything but, not everything!

Also, props to all the guys and gals who keep NOP public service running and, their dedicated service to the community, it is highly appreciated despite if people don't act like it!

    TY.

I figured that there were gonna be some people who recommended I just join a fleet as an actual member, and I have been, and am still, considering it, specifically because the advice and other help I could get from a fleet could be just as invaluable as gear, but I haven't had the greatest of luck when it comes to guilds and such in other MMOs in the past. All the ones I've joined have been really nice and everything, mind you, it's just...all of the guildmembers usually only wanted to run with other veteran guildmembers or their friends. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, of course. It's their play time, they should be allowed to use it to play with whomever they desire, especially their friends, and not have to worry about dragging some hapless newbie around with them. But that does mean that, even when apart of a guild, I found myself going solo or having to pug things anyway, so I've hope you can kind of understand why I'm a bit leery about joining the STO equivalent. Since the lockouts for STFs and such aren't nearly as severe as they are for instance content in other MMOs, it might not as much of a problem, but I'm still worried I'd end up sitting on the bench or having to PuG anyway, as always, even if I do join a nice fleet.

Still, I'm keeping my options open. I don't suppose people know a nice, Romulan-themed fleet? One that doesn't act like they are still apart of the Tal'Shiar or Romulan Star Empire?

Ah, so I do technically need to be legitimately apart of a fleet to gain the stuff I need to actually purchase fleet gear. I guess that's what I've seen bandied about....

Stuff like NoP Public Service, that I guess helps out people who are in fleets, but fleets that don't yet have access, or don't allow them access, to everything they might want?

Yeah, that's fine, the Vulnerability Locators are what I'm primarily interested in, actually. I've noticed that's the one constant among all of the top dps ships I've been with in STF runs. :P

All that sounds promising. Thanks for the offer Kintisho. I'll slide you a message at some point later today.

I hope you don't mind me recommending the fleets in my signature. They are a causal group of people from all around the world. If you choose to game on your own, play with others not in their fleets, or are just looking for people to help you with content. You won't have any issues with any way you want to play. You might want to drop by their chat and introduce yourself, if you decide you want to join a fleet that doesn't have any restrictions.
