How about some "closure" for the Tutorial bridge officers?

lonnehartlonnehart Member Posts: 846 Arc User
So you play the tutorial/first faction missions and along the way you recieve some named bridge officers (complete with voiceovers). Then you're allowed to unceremoniously get rid of them (with the exception of one officer). How about giving them a closing to their stories instead?

Federation:

During the mission with the Renown and Khitomer, when asked if the player is confident about their crew (the player got the choice whether to question how well their crew is holding up despite all the chaos on their training cruise), the player gets an accolade based on that choice...

After all the chaos of the training mission and the Borg on their training cruise, the player and the four NPCs who joined them during those missions meets with Admiral Quinn at his office on ESD (via cutscene). At the end of Quinn officially giving the player command of their ship he inform the player about whether he gets to keep those four officers. Depending on what choice the player took (and the accolade they recieved because of that choice), the player will either keep them or lose them all (Quinn will have them reassigned).

Perhaps later (after reaching level 50) players who had their officers reassigned will recieve a special mission where he meets Captain Flores who is now in command of a Vest class science vessel...

Romulan Republic:

During the Romulan arc the player is stuck with the four bridge officers they recieved during the storyline. At the very end of that storyline (where they are on New Romulus) one choice determines if they keep those officers.

The accolade the Romulan player recieves would be determined by whether the player helps Tovan find his sister or not...

On New Romulus if the player didn't ask about his sister, Tovan decides to stay on New Romulus with his sister to see if they can help out. And the rest follow him as well. Maybe later you can get a few new missions on New Romulus involving them...

Klingon Empire:

I should play this one more. The only way I can see the player getting rid of the named Bridge Officers that join them is if they view the player as being weak, thus causing the player to kill them in self defense...
*sings* "I like Gammera! He's so neat!!! He is full of turtle meat!!!"

"Hah! You are doomed! You're only armed with that pathetic excuse for a musical instrument!!!" *the Savage Beast moments before Lonnehart the Bard used music to soothe him... then beat him to death with his Fat Lute*

Can't say much for the Federation and Klingon bridge officers...

But anything that means getting rid of Tovan Khev gets a thumbs up from me.

According to one of the devs (forget the name but he's quoted in the FCT), Cryptic declined to give extensive stories to anybody after Tovan because of how bad the backlash was over not being able to get rid of him.

Use your brain and make up your own story. Worffan's fics had Tovan leave to command his own warbird, and as far as Kanril Eleya's storyline is concerned, Elisa Flores was assigned to a different ship and hasn't been promoted past ensign on account of she only graduated from the Academy a year ago.

On the RPing aspect I created my own.

Fed - I started before they did the new tutorials. So I kept all mine I started with I found along the way. I added Elisa later on when she became by talking to the consul asking about her. She is now part of the crew, but not my First Officer. However she is over Security and other departments.

KDF - Same thing started before they had tutorials. I still have them and hadn't added any. Other the few along the way.

Romulan - I kept all mine from the tutorials, even Dvex. They are a main part of my character and now her crew. I didn't change their looks other than uniforms. So they are who they are still today.

I did create a KDF tac for BOP use, and Fed Sci. They did start the new tutorials, and I did it mainly to see what they was about. And have plans to get them lv in time to match my main 3 in time. I kept their main crew the tutorials gave and they will be part of the crew. Only one I had to drop was the 2nd tact on my Fed Sci. Since I needed that slot for my 2nd Sci to use on the ship. As I'm going Sci based. I hated to drop that guy, but I had to.

First of all, Tovan isn't going anywhere... already been established.

Second of all, the only closure I needed was dismissing the characters for better BOFFs. :P Take the FEDs, for example... if you want to spin it into RPing, I called Elisa Flores into my ready room (right after she said "After all, we're the class of 2409!") and informed her she would be leaving my crew, at the first convenient moment, for that load of garbage line not worthy of a cheerleading movie. :P

But I wouldn't mind some kind of Companion mechanic, where you CAN choose to follow the storyline of a Boff. 3-4 short misions with the Boff and then it is done.

After that, the story Boff becomes a regular Boff, maybe in VR quality so that you might think of keeping him on your ship but without further interaction.

    Pretty much this^^^

Three doesn't even have Elisa Flores since she was created before the new tutorial.

But yeah, make up your own story. D'trel's crew is entirely special and custom boffs plus a Ferasan doff I picked up using a different name because I thought it was funny. Three is basically pre-revamp fed tutorial Andorian upgraded to purple by costume copy, random Tellarite, Jem'Hadar mission reward, and Embassy rommie.

Not terribly hard, even for a Rommie; some of the new missions let me get reports from First Omek'ti'kallan now that I have him as XO on D'trel.

For the first fed character that I had started after the tutorials (VADM Rhiana Mas, an aliengen Romulan), I come up with this: After Cmdr Elisa Flores had proven herself as a capable First Officer, her commanding officer and friend since the academy decided it was time for her to spread her wings. Admiral Quinn agreed and assigned Cmdr Flores to command the light cruiser USS Kumano. In addition, Cmdr Flores has been enrolled in the Advanced Command Training Program, which is a two-stage program. Although she is still officially ranked as Commander, while in each stage of the program, she will be addressed as "Lieutenant" and "Lt. Commander", respectively.

(In game terms, I made the boff into an alt)

Three of my four charactes are old. Which means gameplay wise they are more than 1000 days old and created way back, so they don't have forced crewmen. Those, headcanonical, are NOT the class of 2409 either, they are veterans. But all of then kept the random BOFFs they were assigned with minor modifications.

The only character I have created with the new tutorial got rid of Elisa Flores instantly because I don't like that kind of stuff (forced characters in a game like this). I, however, did not have had Elisa Flores have any kind of closure - whenever I am in a zone where players have boffs I see her three or four times, so I guess she went and got a command of her own XD My character, as a absolvent of the academy in 2409, left Starfleet and joined the FSA. The reason for that is that I did not find a ship that I was comfortable with on him (Tellarite Tac) as I wanted to have a unique playstyle on every character and my main has a cruiser, my sci a sci vessel and my klingon a battlecruiser. I didn't want to copy that, so my Tellarite tried the Galaxy Dreadnaught for a while but since he's also my "low budget" character the ship lacked some firepower. So I got an Andorian Charal ("light cruiser"). And in my headcanon there are no non-faction ships on Starfleet characters so I made him leave Starfleet, I have not yet decided wether or not it is temporary or permanently. I guess when a Tellarite ship comes out it will be permanent, likewise if there will be a new Starfleet ship I like he might return into active service.

    ^

Same here...though its not that i lack imagination. When i'm reading a story i want the writer to use *their* imagination. If i dont like part of a story whether it be a book, movie or whatever if i dont like it then i dont like it. I dont try to change the details around "in my head" even if i am able to make a better story in my head.

Cool story bro moment for you all. When i was a kid probably about 13-14 one of my friends tried to get me into D&D (paper and pencil edition). It was my first time so i didnt know any of the rules or anything. So i started out as a lone adventurer doing lone adventurer stuff kill boars, or trolls or ewoks or something. After a little while i started to ask what i could and couldnt do. Eventually i asked "so can i build an army?" and they said yah sure you can do that. And before you know it i was a lone adventurer that wasnt so...lone...anymore. Because when i asked for 5000 archers they let me have it. When i asked for 100 knights they let me have it and when i asked for 1000 soldiers and a castle to put them in they let me have that too. Shortly after that i got bored and stopped playing D&D with them and went to play Super Mario Bros or something.

That story is one of the reasons why i dont like to alter storylines in my head. When that dungeon master decided to let me play his game without any rules i got bored with it. Same thing with fixing someone elses storyline that i didnt start writing. I mean if it were up to me Elisa Flores would be promoted and put in charge of Red squadron where she goes off to fight the death star. Where her wingman Tovan "Porkins" Khev dies on the surface of the deathstar after Saurons tower on mount doom hits him with a huge eyebeam. Then K'Gan and his copilot D'Tan come flying in on a two seater space unicorn to rescue Elisa Flores from Darth Admiral Quinn so she can blow up the death star and go home to Babylon 5.

I'm all for booting out Tovan Khev. I created a Reman char with the intentions of having an all-Reman bridge crew, so Tovan is nothing but ****ing up my chi.
