Yes, midnite closed at least 2 banned-threads for moot reasons. Askray helped out. This way he not only get the forum mods in a bad lighting, but also his podcast sig thingie he carries.
Yeah. Since the Banned Thread incident(s), every time I hear at the end of a P1 podcast "...And a Big Thanks to support staffer, Midnight Shadow Seven..." I sigh a little bit. Great publicity, that.

Game is down, mods have time now to update the F.C.T:D
I fully expect to see them add that threads asking about updating the FCT will automatically be closed and that if anybody has any suggestions for updates to the FCT to post a thread about it.

Nah. We're not quite that fond of circular logic. We just want to keep the rioting down to a dull roar.
The FCT is about stopping 50 page threads about stuff that we've already had multiple 50 page threads about, and killing known flame discussions before they blow the roof off.
The FCT is Askray's baby, mostly, and Smirk has to agree what goes in it. PM'ing reasonable suggestions to Askray would get more traction than posting a thread about it.
My views may not represent those of Cryptic Studios or Perfect World Entertainment. You can file a "forums and website" support ticket here Link: How to PM - Twitter @STOMod_Bluegeek
Unless the mods live in Europe or Australia I suspect the mods are at their day jobs since they aren't Cryptic employees, and only volunteer their free time to mod this forum.
This. Midnite's the only one in the UK. Probably would be great if we had a mod from Australia.
I'm doing this from an undisclosed location deep in a cubicle farm in my spare moments of insanity.

Certainly, and it would only be logical that that happens.
I've had good experiences when contacting both of you, and such contact has not to be underestimated. It helps you guys and it helps us.
But exactly ^^That (the closing of some "only fun intended" threads without proper reasoning) is what makes this situation quite an uneasy one. This gives us the feeling of "what's next?" or "are we even allowed to still have a but of innocent fun?".
And such feelings are only more fuel on the fire concerning what (couple/some/most - circle what's applicable) people feel with everything that's changed (queues, less rewards, nerfs, more bugs, longer post wait, etc) already. Don't aggrevate when that aggrevation is unnecessary.
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

Does that mean we get the DOOOM Thread back????

I don't mess with other moderators' decisions and they don't mess with mine (on purpose, anyway).
Smirk is the Final Appeal. But the DOOOM thread isn't a sacred cow, so don't hold your breath on that score.
Don't worry, the new forum meme seems to be alive and well so far. I'm a little surprised PWE hasn't shut it down, but let's call that a win for a little freedom of expression, eh?
As long as people don't take it too far, anyway. The forum rules are not suddenly in abeyance.

You have to understand that all of us moderators are supposed to read the rules and interpret them. That interpretation can be very subjective sometimes. Every situation is different and some are fuzzier than others. Learning what Mod powers to use when is very much a "learn on the job" kind of thing.
If I do something and it blows up in my face, I try not to do that thing again in the same way in the same kind of situation.
I'm also constantly trying to gauge the tolerance of both the community and the Devs and not restrict communication while enforcing the rules. Sometimes we need to be stricter than at other times. Job #1 is reinforcing the trenches when grenades are being lobbed around, and occasionally calling for air support.
I don't like comparing the forums to a battleground, because I do not consider you guys the enemy, but anyone can see that there are times when that's a very apt comparison. I'm not sure "friendly fire" is a good analogy for it, either.
If you're getting the picture that we're also struggling with the feeling of "what's next?" you're on the right track. For different reasons maybe, but still.
I don't know why the DOOOM thread got closed, if that's what this is all about. If I did know, I probably wouldn't be able to share it with you because we're not supposed to discuss moderation actions publicly.
I have a feeling that we're going to end up closing this thread. I'm not sure how constructive this discussion is, it's very much a discussion of moderation at this point, and it's just one more issue to ruffle feelings over.
If the dialogue stays cool, we'll see. We mods need feedback too, I suppose.

Fair enough. But could you then at least make the Supermod aware of the fact that askray specifically stated (in the F.C.T. thread) that the Doom! thread was the only one of its kind that was allowed to stay open? I get the impression he is unaware of the fact, even.
The Doom Thread is open again, so the FCT thread can stay as is.
It seems it can pay off to just contact the mod in question via private message. In cases where there is a conflict between mods, it may help to send the message to both, but I am not sure if that was even necessary in this case. (And I also assume it always helps to be specific, clear and unemotional... )
It was a honest mistake. Unless you of course assume dishonesty of everyone working at or for Cryptic, in which case I can't help you.

The DOOOM thread is only allowed to stay open if it basically follows the forum rules. The FCT is NOT a guarantee that it will not be closed.
With that, we're getting deeper into discussion of moderation territory. The DOOOM thread has been reopened, apparently by Midnite, and there's nothing left to talk about.

I suspect mods are busier when the game goes down, what with all the rage that happens when people can't play the game.
I wouldn't expect any action at least 'til the servers are back up and running.
