Worf was willing to do it with the Defiant (it was a better alternative than abandoning the ship and risk life as a Borg drone).

George Kirk was willing to do it with the Kelvin (at the risk of inciting Abrams Derangement Syndrome).

We even have the power "Ramming Speed" for our own ships.

Using the JHAS frigate pets as kamikaze ships at 50% hull or below says a few things.

1: The JHAS really is expendable.

2: Perfecting the tactic of emergency beam-out before causing a critically injured ship to explode against its target is strategically sound.

3: Cryptic wanted to be able to get that moment of the JHAS colliding with the Odyssey into the game.

Why do you go all Cryptic (as in STOs Cryptic ;)) on the issue? :D

Just because something was done by a character in the shows doesn't mean that this became a completely reasonable standard of operation. Cryptic does not understand this as they want to generate recognition of the source in every way possible - that's why we have Ferengi in Starfleet all across the board, that's why joined Trill can join the KDF and that's why Starfleet uses cloaking devices all over the place or why shuttle pets rule the battlefields (because of a single scene in DS9. A single scene.).

Just because two desperate situations let a captain to take into account sacrificing himself, the ship and crew for the greater good can in no way be taken as a justification of deploying wings of salvaged attack ships that are designed to deliberately crash into the enemy :D

We all know it's reason number three you listed and I get that. It doesn't make any of this less stupid, though.

Its not the Theln which is too small; its most of the others that are too big in a space game of claustrophobic small measures.
