If you use the phantom trait along with the eclipse trait you can get all tac powers almost to global. The phantom trait reduces the CD on all tac and intel powers by 10% each time the enemy misses you and the eclipse trait gives a bonus to defense every time you use an engineering power or intel power. What this means is, on a ship like the galaxy-x, you can double up on engineering powers and also keep your tac powers at global. It also means you can get the full bonus to an [AMP] core and make use of the Nukara t4 damage trait.

    EDIT: what letsfadeaway said :)

So... all else being equal, this would out-DPS an A2B build with 3 Purple Techs (Marion Frances Ds) using 3 out of a possible 4 AMP system bonuses (as Aux wouldn't be >75%) ... those Techs would get you a 30% CD reduction... ?

Im a novice at this so forgive me. I love my Fleet Gal-X T5U but I was told that I should use phasers because of the lance. So I dumped all my fleet credits into fleet phasers and phaser vulnerability detector tac consoles. Was that a waste in terms of getting the most out of my ship, are AP weapons that much better than Pha weapons that its worth crippling the lance? Thanks

well it's not like the lance is much worth anyways, even if it cooldown have been reduced by 1 min.
if you want to go the dps way it not what you should care about.
but don't worry, you could keep your phaser for now, even if fleet weapons are not that great.
and if you switch to AP you can buy the +beam console to do plasma doping AND it will still enhanced your lance a little:)

If you have already invested in an energy type, I would stick with what you have.

The bottom line is, energy type doesn't make as much difference as some people think. All beams do the same base damage rather they are phaser, tetryon, plasma, etc. The only difference is the proc. Antiproton is considered better because it does extra critical damage and crit damage is one of the most helpful things to have on your beams.

Overall, if you already have the Locators, just stick with what you have and try and get beams with +CritD and you'll be fine. You can buy CritD x2 Beams from the Rep store or you can craft x3 or even x4 beams. Either way, you'll be just fine, there is no need to start over and re-do all your weapons.
    Insert witty signature line here.

Fleet weapons are a bit weak. You want to pick up bonus critical damage from your weapons, and fleet weapons do not provide enough of this mod.

    *sigh* another useless DPS thread.

Something not achievable for the majority of the player base, which compounds whats wrong with STO even more, which entails the devs to cater or nerf, depending on which will make them money, content and NPCs.

Less and less variety of builds, more and more focus on the pew pew DPS race. I miss the days when you needed an engineer to heal the escorts, and sci to crowd control.

I miss those days too. Everyone had a role. Now its all about how much DPS you do. (for some players) Its not their fault though. Blame that on the direction the game is going. The Whales are spending a ton of money to get mk14 gear and cryptic couldn't be happier.

the other side effect is that it killed pvp too with the tier6 ship and power, an other area of the game where dps was not the ultimate factor.
as a pvp player it feel strange to have my main completely tune to pve content now, with gears, skillpoint, traits and all that to go the dps way.
    only DR made that possible.
at least i am not force to use a tiers6 ship in pve to be competitive

Yes, but will you set aside your [Acc]x3 beam arrays for [CritDx3] beam arrays to max out DPS in PvE? That's the ultimate surrender going from PvP to PvE😜

    ...Wow. I guess I need to push a bit more; my tank still can't out-dps a gal-x.
    SCM - Crystal C. (S) - [00:12] DMG(DPS) - @jarvisandalfred: 8.63M(713.16K) - Fed Sci

    SCM - Hive (S) - [02:31] DMG(DPS) - @jarvisandalfred: 30.62M(204.66K) - Fed Sci

    Tacs are overrated.

yeah, i said everything was tune to pve, and it is really!
    [CritDx3] : done!:D
but even in pvp the acc modifier is not the best anymore ( if that was ever the case ) with trait, rep, gear combine with tier 6 power you have all the accuracy you need, so even there the [CritD] modifier is a better alternative
