I haven't rolled on that race since early last year. Never failed a race due to going off-course, except that one time I lagged so hard I literally rubberbanded all the way across the map.
I had ran this race as Snowman with my Build a Snowman Pet without any issues. I see you have Odyssey R (former Odyssey Tactical wear on including the boots). Seem to grip the ice better than using Khan boots.
Anyway I enjoy your videos.. Keep rocking and rolling..!
The race is easily completed without ice boots, without needing any rolling, and you can basically start running and not stop at all. You do slow down to a crawl at times, but pick back up to a run.
That's the nice thing about the flexibility we have in the game, is that you can do X effectively in any one of a multitude of ways and be successful.

Sadly, it took me until now to figure it out. Looks like I'll have to wait until next year for those Breen ships, as I definitely won't be able to finish the reputation project before the 4th.
Incidentally, one thing I did notice is that after 1 or 2 failed tries, no actual competitor appears in the race. I wonder if this is intentional, or a glitch?

It's random and you don't actually need to fail first. It's always been that way actually. Even in the first event where there were no Q-pics and all you got was a gift box.
Also, there should still be plenty of time. you only need to succeed 25 times for the ship. and even if you don't get all 1000 you'll be ahead of schedule for next year.
Okay, I have to ask, though, how on earth do you avoid sliding off the track? It has been my biggest problem thus far, and I've found that every time I try to slow down for turns, it just lets the AI take up a larger lead. And whenever I lag behind, I'm forced to speed up again, which inevitably leads to me flying off those sharp turns.

Clip the snow on the apex of the turns. This gives you enough traction to stay on the track.
Also, use oversteer to your advantage. If you're sliding too far one way, turn yourself in the opposite way and keep up the sprint. This corrects your drift and you don't lose too much momentum.
If all else fails, take your hands of the WASD controls and jump. You'll kill your momentum and look like an idiot, but you will stop in place when you land.

ive seen alot better and this is by all means far from perfect, if il be honest, pretty pathetic for a run. you can do better, yes run, sliding, moving with the mouse, counter running to slow, using specific points to brake... so if you can do better then by all means.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
While I won't condemn rolling as a tactic (heck, it works, that's all you need to know - also it seems to be the easiest method to learn, judging by forum posts), I'll say there was way more rolling than necessary in that video.
The fact of the matter is that you don't have to stay on the 'icy' part of the track. Most places, particularly insides of turns, give you great leeway and thus you don't always have to run 'around' corners but simply keep running straight. Of course that requires some 'trial and error' from you. What I can tell you right away is that from the starting line, you can run straight until you pass the lone snowman and tree on your right (there you'll be on snow and no longer on the ice), then you need to turn right (EDIT: Sorry, you probably can't go entirely straight, you'll crash into the tree. But you definitely don't need to roll for the first turn, just a slight course correction to the left will do.).

Worst.PERIOD.Run.PERIOD.ever.PERIOD Rolling on that race is a waste of time.
