There are no other Star Trek MMOs out there right now, but you can't tell me that Star Trek is the only franchise or game you're interested in!
Star Trek is the only IP I'm emotionally invested in. DCUO, Champions, WoW, Rift, GTA:O, they simply don't attract me in the way anything Trek does, this is why I rage everytime they they do something or add something with regards to the game that takes it even further from Trek.
That's why I fly Canon Trek Ships as opposed to Cryptic-built monstrosities (the only non-canon ship I'd consider flying is the Odyssey, but heck, that wasn't even Cryptic, that was a real fans creation) or Trek-but-alien Lockbox B---S---.
It's why my Officers wear the appropriate Uniforms (Feds used to be the All Good Things set but now with the Odyssey Unis standard for the timeline they wear the appropriate Odyssey Unis, KDF all wear late DS9 KDF Unis, and Roms all wear 24th Century RSE Unis).
Star Trek is the important part to me, not the cool factor, not the tank/dps/buff-debuff trifecta, not the Grind to the Top aspect or anything else.
I can barely play the game as it is, I used (back at launch) to be able to spend easily 5-6-12 hours doing missions, now, the environment, exiting out to sector space to to be surrounded by ships that look like they're pulled from Star Wars or Battlestar Galactica.. I can barely stand it, it disgusts me to see the IP treated like this.
There are some good points, Space Combat looks Trek enough minus all the unnecessary icons and s--- floating over everything (seriously Cryptic I know I hit Engineering Team do you really need to float an icon over my ship to remind me?) and ignoring Gravity wells and the like (which I don't use). Going on an away team is an iconic experience, though murdering thousands of enemies isn't exactly par for the course for Starfleet, it feels right for the KDF though. I'd like Exploration back, with a three mission daily Dilithium wrapper, if you don't mind.
The number of references and throwbacks to canon, the fan service, it can get a bit heavy at times, and convoluted, but the effort is appreciated. But instead of throwaway references, I'd prefer real answers and conclusions for the various stories you tie into. Take the whole Ent-C mission, it's clunky and doesn't really fit with the canon we have about the Ent-C, and it certainly wastes a prime opportunity to tell the story from the viewpoints of the three factions involved (totally making a thread dedicated to this by itself).
The Romulans feel all wrong, where's the guile? Where's the deceit? Where's the passionate Nationalism and Paranoia? Why the F--- am I allied with anybody? The Raptor should fly alone, regardless of mission content, heck, it sufficed for the KDF for years, why the change now? Is it only a good solution if it P---es all over the canon?

In short - any excuse for not leaving a game you no longer enjoy like "I have already invested so much into it" or "all my friends are here" are just excuses.
No matter how much you spend on the game already in money or time, if you keep playing it, you will spend more - and if it's not giving you what you really want, then it's just wasteful.
If you have friends here - get them to play another game with you. There are no other Star Trek MMOs out there right now, but you can't tell me that Star Trek is the only franchise or game you're interested in!
All the stuff you can "earn" in the game via grind is neat and what not - but it only matters if you enjoy the journey getting there. If the grind is not fun, the reward won't be rewarding, it will be empty and not actually grant you any gaming happiness.
There is another reason that you forgot to mention. They only read metrics regularly and don't really care about the forums so they don't really care what we say here. But when you play 1 hour to run the gated click-missions and leave, they see it. When you play every other day or just on Saturday for content instead of every evening, they see it. If you sit in sector space and chat and don't run missions, they see it. Posting here is kind of like resisting the borg - it's futile. But posting to the metrics parsers is like giving a raspberry to the main sensor array.
With the dual monitor setup, so you can have the best of both worlds?
If you intend to play all classes, play the Imperial Agent last. It has the coolest story IMO. Unless you can't wait.
And play a female Soldier. You'll love the voice, espeically if you played Mass Effect with a female Shepard.

Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
it is spot on for many people playing STO, including myself. I simply stopped raging about changes a long time ago, now i'm kind of free to enjoy the parts of the game i like.
Already ahead of you on this OP. I stopped playing STO in late October, after having progressed my main to level 60. Didn't care for the XP changes or the story progression. Unfortunately they removed the star clusters, which were my favorite past time in between content updates.
I've kept abreast of the game by checking the forums a couple times a week. The earliest I anticipate logging in again is the anniversary event.
I cant see them fixin it enough. Theyd have to admit what they have done hasnt worked and i cant see that happening- id be happy if they reset the server to before dr started!! Keep any money ive spent itd be worth it
its that dam system the players like, the players have killed the pve's cos they are too lazy to use it, they wanted to pve/stfs to be a challange now thye got it and thye dont play them.. dont be stupid players and use the queues again so the real players can earn mats

Join Date a player made up is NOT correct!
Who said I was still playing ? I log in for the rep/doff/R&D daily, and I will log for the winter event. In the hopes the game will improve, and be roughly as fun as it used to be before DR.
I want to enjoy it. I really do, but when I log in, I'm confronted to the sad truth.
The "don't like then leave" was never an argument. It's the Godwin point of whine thread.
you login and do activities in game and then your going to do the winter event and you claim your not playing? lol

I think we can draw a distinction between "in-game working" and "playing" here. I certainly do. It's why I don't play EVE: I'd rather have a job that pays me to do it.

What Criptic does about the missing on daily basics of dilithium , why still from the people , they and I have paid enough in this game, i do not complain , nobody force me to do that , but when you send a ticket about daily missing a lot of dilithium from my account , and that every day , and the answer is that is there a bug in the game , then must be a big bug , and he lives on dilithium , i call that rubbery , i pay i try to enjoy something but i can not stand when i see that somebody keep stilling from me. I ask you now IS NOT ENOUGH HOW MUCH YOU EARN FROM US ? , WHY DO THAT ? , forcing peoples to buy more not try to get WHAT YOU ALREADY MAKE ADS OVER , IN THIS GAME YOU CAN GO THAT ... AND THAt ... BUT YOU REALY CAN NOT DO BECAUSE WE WILL TAKE IT JUST LIKE THAT , YES WITH HELP FROM A BUG , DAM BUGGGG
If the lag issues and client stability could be addressed, this game would be a lot more enjoyable, despite some of the design flaws. I still have fun playing the game, but Cryptic's inability to fix STO's technical problems discourages me from investing more time and money into the game.
And Boffs going AWOL, the loadout bugs, and abilities randomly getting swapped? Yeah, f***ing annoying too. :P
I already made my own solution. Since the grind and such in STO got me to delete three alts I re-subbed to WoW and leveled a toon to 100. As weird as it sounds I find it less grindy over there. Best of all they don't exclude specific classes on factions from getting the latest Tiered gear like Cryptic has done for science captains and T6 science ships for the KDF and Romulan players.
I'm perfectly fine with sending money I'd use for Zen to another company if Cryptic isn't willing to provide better support for all their implemented factions.
I've been playing for like 2 weeks (after a year+ break) and I'm pretty much already in the "Login, click on daily stuff, run Crystal event, wait for ALERT and run Borg event (for marks), log off." mode again.
Done all the story missions, feel like there is nothing left to do. I'd spend all day doing events, but I'm only rewarded well for the first one, so after the first one, there is no reason to do it again that day (probably why the queue takes 3 hours to pop).
Most games reward you for doing stuff, STO likes to punish you for it, its an odd business model.
For me, I just enjoy the Start Trek experience bought forward by STO. Don't mind grinding, crafting and help other players, doing dailies, socializing tying out the new ship and different tunes and specialties, etc. Played the game for about 3 years now and don't foresee my leaving any time soon

And she says a lot in TOR just as in Mass Effect so you get to hear her often.

Not anymore. They all left to play SWG (pre-CU emulator).

I have not had this trouble, and it's the only difference I can think of.
There's also the route to their servers.
