What's going on good people of STO? I'm currently a level 42 Fed. Tactical officer wanting to get to level 50 so I can get the Odyssey class ship. (Such a gorgeous ship!) Anyone have some advice on the best way to get to level 50?

To 50? There should be enough xp from just doing the story missions. After 50 is when those aren't feasible anymore.

Alright, great. What are your thoughts on the Odyssey for a permanent ship for a while once I get to 50?

It's still a decent ship if that's really what you want to fly. However just realize that it's now a full tier behind and will have to be upgraded from a T5 ship to a T5U ship. You can upgrade it by using an upgrade token from the Cstore that sell for 700 Zen, or you can buy one from the exchange which were running around 8-9 million EC last I checked. I suppose you could fly it without upgrading it, but it might be rough. Especially if you plan on doing more advanced and elite content.

If you want a full blown T6 alternative, the Guardian is what many Oddy pilots switched to.

One of my buddies dumped his Oddy for a Guardian and he couldn't be happier with it.

In the end though it's up to you. Fly what you love. An upgraded Oddy will be alright if that's what you really want.

^ This is truth. I fly an Excelsior and *love* it. If you like the Odyseey then go for it :)

As for getting to 50 - just play the story missions, you'll get to 50 in no time.

Do your missions and DOff assignments. Should be no problem to level to 50 and even beyond.

Thanks guys for the replies. Its great to be back in STO and doing the Federation's work. Offers a bit of nostalgia doesn't it. Good flying, ladies and gents.

all of my alts without lockbox ships fly the Oddy, but that's an oddy with all the toys from the set.

and they will all transition to the eclipse or phantom

A note about DOff assignments: the better your DOffs, the more likely you are to crit. Crits give more XP, more dilithium, and often various additional goodies.

repeat old missions. Do NOT do any more missions you have never done until you reach 60. Also keep your duty officer assignments full.

At 60, go do the missions you have not yet done. They will give more xp and boost your specialization along at a faster rate. Basically you are trading fast xp now at a lower amount when the leveling is fairly easy for more xp later when the leveling is hard. The first time you do a mission gives double xp. At 40 you might get 2000 while at 60 you get over 4000.

Of course, missions now will get to 50 faster, but in the long haul it is less efficient.

Depending on how much time you have, you might as well just run doff-missions. ;)
