To clarify: currently, explosions vary in size and power depending on the NPC rank of the ship in question (i.e., cruisers will always have bigger explosions than frigates). The problem is, the explosions are all about the same size between each rank regardless of the physical size of the ship. The result is that the explosion of, say, a Tholian Tarantula will not be big enough to conceal the ship "despawning" inside, which can look kind of strange and immersion-breaking. This is also noticeable for the Borg Sphere and several other ships that are larger than most ships if that rank.
I know it's not a huge issue and I don't even know if it's possible to do, but it would be nice if the explosion automatically scaled with the ship size so they always match.
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
I yearn for the days when the splash damage from core breaches scaled with size and mass of the ship. Back then, remaining near a Borg cube with an imminent core breach was just plain suicidal even with Brace for Impact activated.
I loved that. Please put that back in because current core breaches are a joke.

I also support this. There needs to be a certain..."hard science" foundation in some things. The Unimatrix ships and Voth City Ships should have the most god awful huge explosions, while Mirandas and Borg Probes and such should be barely noticable.
On a similar subject I think that tractor beams should behave the same. A Tarantula should be able to tractor my Assault cruiser with medium difficulty. If a widow tries it I should be dragging a widow along behind me as I go on about my business. Mass should matter. Specialized things like five tractor mines of course would be special exceptions since they're actually weaponized tractor beams.

Another nice touch would be more randomness with warp core breaches. Currently, once you strike the fatal blow you have around five seconds to get clear. It would be neat if it were more random, with the core breach anywhere from ten seconds later to instantly. Smaller ships like fighters and frigates would be more likely to go up right away.

it use to be that way, even your own ship exploding use to do damage to ships near by... I miss the days of Abandon Ship + Ramming Speed = BIG BOOM.
