When does a business go too far?

Its a simple question....

My the last 2 patches messed up my launcher, this last time i had to uninstall the game in order to download the expansion. :/ Nothing they sell is guaranteed...no support other then people tellng u to shut up and go away....does this happen to anyone else or is this just attacks on me?

http://adventure-cat.deviantart.com/art/Why-497856068 <-the Kittyprize nerfed

http://adventure-cat.deviantart.com/art/CatStar-s-signature-weapon-is-EPIC-497738822 <- CatStars sword upgraded...

http://adventure-cat.deviantart.com/art/Brutally-Nerfed-2nd-day-T-T-497851083 <- then nerfed

i still cant label any of my cats uniforms, all of the gear i bought and upgraded was nerfed even for my BoFFs. things i bought from the cstore that where supposed to be unlocked forever, i have to rebuy again. i think a valid explanation is a justified request...are u willing to give one? im not asking for a refund and i already know u will refuse to fix anything, i just wanna know why? during all these years, why would u continue to treat us like this?? ...or have u already reply with a thorned wall of silence?

    I'm sorry.

You spend 2 million ec and 200,000 dil to get an EPIC Tegolar Sword Mk IV? I'm still trying to wrap my brain around that one.

OUCH - but a drop from 170 dps to 109 dps (hell, I have blue swords that do more...), that's just complete and utter felgercarb.

By signing the EULA you agreed to bend over and take whatever they gave you.

    Sorry, Johnny. It's just business.

Yup, this is why I quit playing my toon Luna. Her gear looked like it was nerfed, and I began to get frustrated with the game. So I started a Romulan. But this makes sense now, I should have guessed a bug instead of a nerf. Good call! :)

...and Luna, im not doing it for drama! its sad but u just get used to em acting that way and it makes u expect the worst...so how am i supposed to know if its a from the horde of STO bugs or one of their cruel nerfs?

You've become very cynical about the game, don't let it's flaws ruin your fun! The way the game is setup for us right now, leveling isn't important, you can obtain the end game gear you require before you begin to level, and go about your day.

I myself wish to see more of the new story, but it's a total Black Friday of patrols to get to the next cut-scene. I will finish leveling some day, and toss the ring in the lava! rofl

i think this is the first game ive ever seen where the player base has to fear if they will get to keep what they earned and bought, it makes me wonder ...did they go silent out of shame or that figure themselves too good to relate to us anymore?

IMO, could be a lot worse. They could be charging a mandatory monthly fee, or locking sectors behind a paywall, or executing DR-style new levels/power creep/gear obsolescence with every new season. I'm not exactly satisfied with DR, but compared to some other models it's not that bad.

I don't have to fear anything. Fear and paranoia is easily remedied by knowledge and research. Both of these things are free.

If the items where free I wouldnt complain...but i guess knowledge that they will take it back, plus research of their history of this and your point is taken..its not paranoia is their M.O.

    Honest question:

If you two are truly siblings as claimed in the past, shouldn't you two be having this sort of conversation privately? Or at least, over the phone? Why go through the trouble of publicly posting back and forth responses to each other?

mind your own business our tension isnt ur concern in or out of the game! u have no reason to bring it up but only to cause trouble, maybe the real problem is issues u havent dealt with yet...its been a long time id moved on fromur unpleasant welcome to the sto forums, are u here to see me off now?

If tensions in your family aren't anyone's concern, then why did you and "luna" specifically make these exchanges public of all to see?

    - I merely pointed out that background music on websites is unprofessional and can drive visitors away from spending time visiting your blog. You reacted by claiming it was a personal attack, and apparently took down your own website out of your own volition.

    - I also pointed out that different fleets have different structures / organizational policies depending on their needs, and that no method is necessarily superior to another. "luna"'s response was to insult my fleet, and claim that my fleet was inferior to hers merely because my fleet adopted policies different to that specified by your model (I'm merely a member of said fleet, and so have no influence on its administrative policies).

Other than my curiosity with regards to the quick appearance of "luna" whenever "catstar" has a thread that does not proceed in the desired direction, I hold no ill will against you.

While I may not agree with you on certain things, that does not automatically equate to "not being nice".

When I criticize your use of website background music, I quoted actual references to show you that by making a small compromise, you can retain website visitors for longer and more frequent return visits.

When I criticize your model of a "structured" fleet with specialized departments for every conceivable aspect of gameplay in STO, I'm simply pointing out that different things work for different fleet cultures, and that no model is intrinsically "better" than any other.

As for the original topic at hand -

Digital content, especially in a MMO, is often subject to change. When one spends real money, one pays for the right to access the particular service for as long as it is available, not to own the intangible digital goods outright for perpetuity. If STO shut down tomorrow, the only thing any of us would own are the memories and the fan art we've made.

If you feel that your gear / loadout has been adversely affected by the recent changes, either ask the devs politely for an official explanation in terms of the game's overall strategy, or adapt your playstyle in a way that causes you to be the least affected by similar changes in the future.

There's a healthy continuum between completely agreeing with the game's direction and ragequitting; one simply has to find it.

It's an online game. Everything is subject to change. Anyone who's been playing one for even a few months knows this. Nothing is guaranteed forever. Besides, anyone actually reading any of the forums posts would know that there are going to be changes, especially to weapons.

There are also priorities. Apparently, getting club 47 up and running was far more important than your boffs, or balancing the game. These attacks aren't directed at you personally. People are just sick and tired of seeing the same complaint thread pop up over and over. Especially when its based around only that person (for example, winter scarf threads. I don't give a **** if you can't use it, there are far more important things that need to be fixed.)

More to thread point, businesses go too far if they have shareholders at all,

This allows them to do whatever they want with no customer input, and try as they might boycotts have small effect on these businesses, as all the money (or at least some) comes from the shareholders....

Businesses without shareholders are true businesses, and thus operate according to the customer's whims
