This is what the professional scene has been like in those days? Looks so much better than the overly accelerated gameplay we've got now. A lot more methodical. No ship turning on a dime. No one shot kills, being constantly disabled or thoroughly spammed with clicky TRIBBLE. Man ... that makes you wonder. Do STO's designer ever sit back and look at what they have done to the game? Not just on a patch by patch basis though. It's so easy to dismiss small increments of change, but this just shows you how much the game has changed over the years. It really looked like trek battles in the beforetime.

One shot kills were there. Just not with consoles. Those vids are just itsy bitsy glimpses into how they settled into the game among themselves.
I sort of got a kick out of the escort that was playing 'space turret'. That guy was screaming to be vaporized. Just no one around to make it happen.
yep back then it was actual tall ship combat, not starfighters on line. ships with less hitpoints and heals really were glass cannons, ziping in and out of combat at will wasn't an option, everything operated in each others weapons range, TT didn't auto distribute ether.
biggest changed happened with LoR EPtE buff, just reset the baseline for movement capabilities completely, was buffed nearly as much again with the second expansion with all the raw speed buffs from the delta rep. everything is hyper twitch now, and hyper vape.
Investigating whether S1.2 or pre-S1.2 pvp is what one should aim for in a pvp game.
Depends on what you want. If you want to aim for 'team play required' go for before the changes to tactical team and added [Acc] on weapons. And restrict ships to the pure breed at launch boff layouts.
Team play optional? Anything after that.
EDIT: To some extent, BOPs broke that early rule. Hardcore actually. Thus the severe penalty they took in stats.

PvP was so so much better back then (atleast once they fixed that absurd VM+SNB combo).
Weapon drain was actually an important feature to keep in mind, when that was changed it really messed up the balance.
For the most part though each update just seemed to make PvP slightly worse and worse. Then F2P hit and everything went right to hell.
