It didn't have the desired effect. Exchange prices haven't dropped. In fact allot of things have gone up.

Which EC nerf are you referring to?

The stuff I'm selling has dropped by quite a bit, though there is a logical explanation for that.

I was Nerft in season 9.5. Shields, deflectors and engines were slashed but other items were made, hmmm i little, (like really little) better.

Yeah, this is only mentioned about dozen or so people. But there were some others who adamantly believed it would drop.

    Nerf is OP, plz nerf
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

While I'm not a fan of the changes they did, I can see the logic behind them. The biggest issue is that they only implemented a fix for half of the problem (massive amounts of "Currency X" being added to the system) while leaving the massive excess already in the system alone.

Right now, there's no reason for players with decent amounts of EC to want to part with that, so there's no real reason not to just wait until others save up enough to buy. Even if they do decide to go on a spending spree, they're really just transferring the problem to another player, not solving the problem.

Also, for those players who find something rare/valuable and DON'T have bajillions of EC, it's now even more important to sell those for the highest possible price.

A few things I think could address this end of the problem would be:

    1. Add a fleet project that is effectively a direct conversion of energy credits into fleet credits (similar to how the reps now work, not just commodities)
    2. Increase Dabo betting limits (would probably need some better things to do with gold pressed latinum to be effective - maybe another fleet project or unique costumes?)
    3. Change "Finish Now" costs to be energy credits instead of dilithium (this would help in a lot of ways in my opinion)
    4. Increase feasibility/rewards of duty officer assignments to more effectively convert EC into something desirable (like increased critical success chance, R&D duty officer recruitment, higher quantities of X commodity...)
    5. Add a "Money Bomb" type item purchasable for EC (maybe latinum?) that is effectively a treat for other players (here's a pretty quick explanation if you don't know what I'm talking about) - maybe rewards could scale from the price paid or level of the giving player?
    6. I remember someone once suggested a rep project, ongoing, that would be something like a Ferengi profiteer. I'll take it further and say maybe each faction should have a slight variation on pure EC contribution reps - Federation is aid to refugees/scientific research/"3rd galaxy" races, Klingon is contributing to the glory of the Empire, Romulan is supporting construction of the new homeworld/government/fleet.

Outfits for 250m EC would definitely work.

EC costs will never be "fixed" as long as you have different ways to turn RL money into ingame currency, to include EC, Dil, etc.

The only way to fix the inflated costs ingame is to remove the outside means of bringing currency.

But Cryptic will never do that for the game. So, until then, the costs of desired items will remain high because that's the kind of money there is out there. The money made in STO really isn't just stuff from ingame.

This was done to draw out the Gold sellers and try out our new tracking system, while at the same time push for us to buy items to sell on the market. I haven't seen a single ad in chat or my in game mail for a while, so it's been effective. It was getting as bad as walking through an airport there for a while.

It's a great plan, but we will eventually run out of EC in the game itself and can no longer afford to buy whats being sold on the Exchange. I'm conserving what money I have left, since I have little time to grind for the new minimum wage system.

I still think the Dilithium and Latinum should be the the games currency and both interchangeable with Zen too. This would allow for us to grind even at Quarks and bring some more EC into the fold.Dilithium would be the standard market for the Federation and Latium for the shady factions. All official items and services are bought with Dilithium, while the underground goodies can be bought with latinum.

The Klingon side could also have a raid chest, where you can have a daily raid for items they can exchange for Latinum or Dilithium on the NPC market, paying respect to their status as raiders and obtaining goods like they did in the Enterprise series. The Federation can have a daily assignment log where you can earn your account ration or surplus, like Janeway using a ration to make coffee or Beverly Crusher charging for that fabric.

What would you think of these ideas?

EC has become the currency of choice if you want to upgrade fast - or - when you have no other option than to buy your way through upgrades.

This was part of the bigger picture, going back to the 9.5 rebalancing of EC.

I'm just coming to that conclusion. The problem with that theory is it indicates they are capable of planning and executing a long term strategy. What they deliver however in terms of code seems to lack any attention to detail that should be first and foremost for a game designer. It's an odd quandary.
