-Introduce account level
-New toons get the option to instant level to account level
-Remove character bind and add all to account bind
-Lockbox and Fleet ships transfer between toons against a small fee
-Limit dil refine to account level (value subject to discuss)
This would help multiple alts and encourage players to spend more on gear and ships and adds variiety. People who want to play the story missions can still do it. I don't want to play the story 4+ times thru for example or doff all the time or fly patrols.
Not sure about the instant level thing but I would certainly like to see the post 60 xp as account wide. Works well for Diablo 3 in its Paragon levels so it is not a new thing as was even suggested before the specialisations were released.
The differences though in D3 and STO is that Paragon levels apply to even level 1 toons whereas STO Specialisations would only apply to level 60 onwards. Would certainly make it far more alt friendly though.
I fail to see how making everything account bound would encourage people to buy/play more. Also, not every toon has to be be 100% maxed with 60 specialization points and 14-gold gear. If this is the situation you want, then I think it is fine that you work for it.
Going by jheinigs (?) talk in the last Priority One podcast, some "alt-friendly" and "alt-build" friendly measures will eventually come - at least for Crafting. I would not be surprised if this will eventually also be something considered for skill points.
We already have a very strong precedent for alt-friendliness with the sponsorship tokens.
But don't expect anything too soon. The holidays are coming up. And if the feature is something big like "account level", I would expect that it will require a season update.
I think Cryptic is probably aiming at a an "optimum" speed of advancement for their purposes one a single character, and don' actually think that all characters need to take the same amount of time. Basically create a minimum boundary for leveling speed for a player, not for a particular character.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

You should totally ask all the people who have tons of alts now how their gearing up and ship purchasing is going.
Take a listen to Priority One's podcast for this week, episode #199.
They had a dev on the show, and they're looking at ways to implement account-wide bonuses for things like starship mastery, gear upgrading, etc.
add in accolades
1) reach tier 4 in a ship mastery > award accolade > reduced mastery xp cost account wide
2) get a deflector to XIV ultra rare and reduce costs to upgrade deflectors account wide by 25%
3) get a deflector to XIV epic and reduce costs to upgrade deflectors account wide by 50%
4) get any beam array to XIV ultra rare and reduce costs to upgrade beam arrays account wide by 25%
5) get any beam array to XIV epic and reduce costs to upgrade beam arrays account wide by 50%
6) get any universal console to ultra rare reduce costs yadda yadda
7) get any universal console to epic (with a list excluding universal consoles that already are epic) and reduce costs account wide blah blah
Do an accolade for every gear slot that has stuff that can be upgraded. Similar to WoWs achievement system where if you equip a piece of gear that is a certain ilevel you get ach points. Except in STO we are trying to get a piece of gear to ultra rare, epic or whatever the devs want the benchmarks to be. And the rewards we get are cost reductions to whatever percent they deem appropriate.
The problem I have with account wide unlock features is that I have to get them on one character, hence I have to play that character to have it maxed out. I am forced to play for some time on one character (I know .... nothing is forcing you) to have it all.
Well, I have several characters and I have them, because I don't want to play on one character all the time. Today this one, tomorrow that one.
I don't mind that specialization takes a considerable time to level out, afterall it is a specialization. I do think it is a pretty bad game design that to play the new story content, I have to play old content to see what the new stuff is about; I have to get xp somewhere to keep going through the new content.
An example. Recently I leveled a character to 50. That level opens the new content. The character, a Romulan Tac, hit 50 after Everything Old is New from the Devidian arc. Although I could play the new content, I am not touching it, because the xp I get is not enough. I will play the Cardassian episodes, the Breen, the Borg etc. To start as high as possible with Delta Rising and that means I play old content.
I fail to see how making everything account bound would encourage people to buy/play more.

It would certainly encourage me to play. Part of why I'm not participating in this ridiculous specialization grind is because I know full well that not only will it take too long for me to do it on one character, but it will also take me too long to level the other 5 characters I want to keep active.
Debatable. I, for one, need every advantage I can get due to using builds that are inherently incompatible with the perceived optimal method of building a ship. If I have to move away from those builds, I might as well stop playing as I would be playing the game for the sake of the game itself rather than the universe it represents. Let's face it, at that point I'm better off finding something else to do.
I am not opposed to the idea of putting in a bit of effort to achieve what I want. I am, however, opposed to Sisyphean goals, and specializations in their current state are such a goal from top to bottom.
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.

Still waiting to be able to use forum titles
or to be transferred to one toon on account for 200 Zen.
Will they be Mk XIV Epic ponies? Otherwise, I've no interest in them.
