I realized this morning that I need to add MK XI gear being the best to my list of things I miss.
Ever since Delta Rising released I have been flying lobi ships since those got a free T5-U upgrade. This morning I thought, maybe I will buy an upgrade token and go back to my Galaxy-X on my main toon, then it hit me... all the gear I upgraded to MK XIV on my lobi ship is not the gear I need for my Galaxy-X... I would have to do the whole gear upgrading all over again at a cost of hundreds of thousands of dilitium... JUST TO FLY A DIFFERENT SHIP!
STO is no longer a game, games are supposed to be fun.
Their are a lot of things I miss in STO right now most all of them have been covered by the OP and others in this thread. But if you look at the trend and you read between the lines every thing we miss about this game DStahl had his hands on or found the best people for the job weather it be DOFF's or other parts of the game. It was a better game and he had the wisdom to listen to the players and take the best ideas and give them life.
So I pretty much miss everything before Geko. I guess we could call it Before Geko's Rising or "BGR" for short. But the game was great. STO was something I told everyone about. Now days I don't tell many people about STO at all. Those I do tell I warn them, I warn them that its a long slow decent into a game that has become a shadow of its former self. That I started playing when it was free to play the way you wanted to and a lot of fun, where the only timers were that of my STF cool downs. But now days the only thing that does not have a timer is the unlimited wait trying to get a PUG for a STF.
Laziness ... they would have to edit Memory Alpha to some degree ... removing all the Crafting Vendors etc ...
When I envisioned a Crafting Revamp (see here), I pictured no Dilithium costs intrinsic to the Crafting Process, just Materials and Anomalies to make Components to make gear, with Timers. But, I did envision Dilithium shortcuts, that is, being able to directly buy Crafting Components for Dilithium, which they could still do.
Of course, I also envisioned being able to add more components of specific types (warheads for torpedoes, for example) to increase the chances of upping the rarity and modifiers ([DMG], with the warhead example) of the gear you were crafting, but alas..
Memory Alpha could be brought back, with Dilithium vendors selling Components, shortened crafting timers for crafting in their labs, and specialized Doff Missions that reward Components as well as Anomalies & Materials.
It's just a matter of Dev time and priorities and whether the extra encouragement to buy Zen would be worth it to the penny-pinchers.
Eliminating the "known" species names from the Genesis system that made the random missions would eliminate much of the eye rolling, I mean, who knows if the Tzenkethi had a Fourth Dynasty? We know the Borg didn't, so the Borg name gets pulled.
Throw in some more Exploration & Diplomacy Doff missions, utilize some more puzzles & other game mechanics, maybe some boarding actions or spacewalks (since just about everyone has an EVA suit now).. And open them back up, heck go ahead and make them have Sector Transition shortcuts to other Sectors so that the Roms & Klinks can have a few easier options for moving around the Quadrant..

I loved not caring about long-term advancement or skill points or anything like that. I could set short, achievable goals such as reputation tiers and move from one to the next. When I ran out of things to do on one character, I could move to the next one.
I do not like this specialization system at all. It completely breaks the game from the way the game was months ago.
I miss when you had a chance to get an mk xii set item in the borg stfs.
U didnt needed them but it always was a reason to do a run and i always was a little excited at the end of a run.
I dont know what they should add now as a small chance drop... but something would be nice.
Well... Voporak did have a vanilla PVP channel, but it died when a schism over what traits could be used and what classified as a vanilla ship build broke out...
Poor guy was typing scrambled for a while over it.
Only fun in space lvl nao is the runabout event, but nobody queues up for it because they're either scared of pvp or want to show off their big bad capital ship's awsome power...

Wasn't Geko there when Dstal was in power too lol, I'm not sure as I didn't really get active on the forums till season...8, 9 when I started to become active lol... Eehh lol
Also the proper version of that word in this instance is "there" for future reference lol
Maybe you were too agitated to notice lol
I miss all my fleetmates, who have all but gone and left because they hate how much of a grind and money grab the game has become.
I miss that sense of accomplishment I used to have when I completed a new reputation and I had some nifty new piece of high end gear. Top of the line, the latest thing.
Now, I complete the reputation and have to grind to upgrade that new nifty piece of gear, it's rewarded inferior.
The same can be said about lockbox ships, all that effort and money to get one, sure it gets upgraded to t5U for free, but the myth that t5u ships are just as good as t6 ships has already been busted more than a few episodes back.
The grind for the sake of grind, for the sake of a grind, it's just too damned much.
They've added so many layers to the new content that it doesn't feel like entertainment anymore, just an arduous grindy chore that has to be completed, to get to the reward, end of the reputation, to take down that crazy high hitpoint boss, to get the rest of the story....ect. ect. ect.
But most of all, I miss that tenuous balance between grind vs fun. As it stands now, Cryptic's completely lost touch with that. Either that, or they just don't care anymore because they only care about dollars.
I can't believe they're actually playing the game, not for fun anyways.
- The old STF's Ground / Space together (Had a ton of fun several hours with my fleetmates)
- Open Fleetactions like SB24 with Ground part (Just go to the point on the map and hop in)
- Exploration Clusters
- Memory Alpha
- DS9 Under Siege FA
I miss Populated Ques.. being able to log in and just run whatever felt fun at that time.
I miss my Alts, being able to play other characters and know I can go somewhere with them.
I miss being able to earn EC by running missions, STF's and Battle Zones and selling the loot.
I miss being able to spend money on this game and feeling like I'm contributing to something I love. Now, I just can't do it.. I can't reward them for destroying the game I loved.
The old Elite STF: I started the old elites when I had t2 omega rep and getting my trusty antiproton rifle I had so much fun. You could do the optionals like complete the mission quickly, or rescue the prisoners. My PVE motto was "It's either Elite, or just sh*t at Defera"
Then you have Defera, it's the oldest adventure zone in the game and it being the oldest makes it the most neglected. Zones like Kobali Prime and the Dyson Battlezones get all the attention now. But at least remove the fracking bugs.
Memory Alpha: make it useless and dry like Vulcan, just give me the diplomacy missions. Or just move them.
Exploration: Now I understand how in real life habitable planets are rare, but when I read the patch notes that I won't get to do the exploration missions anymore. WHY CRYPTIC?! Hell, what Shon been doing all this time? Maybe doing deep-space exploration and getting his antennae in a twist by repeating original series episodes.
I was never a big pvp guy
Old missions: Bring the damned things back all shiny and polished.
Cryptic now wasting time on social zones instead of what's fun now: I agree, club 47 is cool and modern and a good distraction, for a bit. Now I'm back on the battlefield (I always am now) making children lose their fathers. Wake up cryptic time to make the players happy.

More than anything, I miss feeling hope for the future of the game.
Playing STO now is like hanging out with the younger and more serious sibling of a dead friend, who wears all your dead friends clothes: Equal parts comforting and disappointing.
I'm not going to cry doom, because the game I know is already dead. I just need to come to terms with it, and try and carry on. Because I've spent all that money, and I want to feel something for the amount of cash I've put into this game - even if it's anguish, that's something.
I miss the old Mirror Universe event, and I miss Kerrat being fun back in the day. Now it's like playing L4D2 - all 'YOU NOOB' this, and 'YOU'RE RUINING MY SCORE' that. And don't get me started on the so-called 'community' in this game, esp. in PvE queues. I don't know if it was any nicer back in the day, but it sure isn't much to be proud of right now.
I also miss ESD chat not being full of absolute idiots, too - I saw it once, years ago, on one weekend.
And 625 zen for an ugly, two-legged cat? 1000 for a blue, former slave, freak? Fu*k off guys
And could these guys have people do something in the game BEYOND shooting in a all out clusterfu*k? And yes, ESD chat is full of complete aholes. Now Kobali Prime, delta rep and some of the story missions are fun. But I wish the DR curse never came. But seeing Seven of Nines booty in non-canon ST does make it worthwhile:D

I did infected ground a bit ago (was fun, but it's now impossible) I remind the players of the starbase crewmen (they ignore) I tell them I can't rescue them alone even whith my neutronic grenades and maco pulsewave (ignore) we get down to the lower levels where it requires two or more players to rescue the crewmen (ignore) I make the best of it and try and shoot the worker drones (DAMNED IDM NEXT TO THE DRONES THAT ALWAYS ATTRACTS MY FIRE!) and of course we lose. I was just ignored period, I had to respawn because no one would help me.

I'm already missing pre-DR for a number of reasons, but the one I'm possibly the most annoyed about is that the game used to be open to anyone, and making good progress was possible for all types of people. Now it's closed off to most who don't want STO as a second job.
That's what I feel most strongly about missing from post-DR, there are many other things but that is easily one of the bigger ones for me.
Ten soldiers wisely led will beat a hundred without a head. - Euripides
I no longer do any Bug Hunting work for Cryptic. I may resume if a serious attempt to fix the game is made.
I remember the original Gorn Minefield...where you had to pass through waves of ships to reach a planet, with I think satellites that you had to either protect or disable. It was right when I started playing the game and changed not long after.
I also used to like the weekly scheduled events, because you always guaranteed being able to play. I loved Mine Trap, but no one plays it PUG any more...
I miss being able to explore for materials, instead of being forced to either run queues I can't stand, or blow tons of EC on the materials I need.
I miss the days when the KDF was beginning to get a fair shake; you know, back when they introduced the Orion, Gorn, and Nausicaan ships, and gave us our own mission series? Those days were awesome; it felt as though the devs actually gave a TRIBBLE about the KDF faction.
I miss the days when the only KDF science vessel was actually on par (almost) with its Fed counterparts (its hitpoints were nerfed, as though it had a cloak...which, of course, it never did); it has, sadly, been left far behind.
I miss the days when the value of my C-store purchases felt worthwhile; there are very few things that I feel are worth the money anymore. The Gal-X has been broken forever, the Venture has been broken forever, the veteran ships' and the Hoh'Sus warp animations have been broken forever...my money doesn't seem to be actually spent on STO's development. I'm a whale, and I'm saying this game just isn't worth the investment anymore.
I don't play anymore; I find Fed gameplay boring, and nothing like what the TV shows were like, anyway. KDF and Rom gameplay is as close to canon Star Trek as you're going to get in STO. Seeing as the KDF has been basically kicked to the curb, I'm done spending money on my game; my sights have turned toward Star Citizen, and I look forward to it with great anticipation. I game with 3 of its devs every night, and the things I hear from them are very, very encouraging.
Last but not least, I miss the days when "We're not meant to enjoy the game. We're meant to leave it." didn't run through my mind every time I started STO, for the sake of my friend who still plays it.
Is it possible to miss something that never existed? If so, then i miss the promise and potential that seemed to be just around the development corner back in 2010.
I miss the improvements to sector space that were talked about by the devs long ago.
I had always hoped that sector space would just go away, and that warp travel would become a part of normal ship space. I'd hoped that queues would go away, and be replaced with "hot zones". For instance:
"This is Admiral Quinn to the fleet, galaxy-wide. This is a class 5 alert. Early warning systems indicate a massive Borg attack is imminent against worlds in the Xarantine sector. All available class 5 ships are ordered to proceed to the Xarantine sector at maximum warp. Quinn out."
This would then spawn several available hot zones with different objectives for different factions. Players in the Klingon Intelligence faction might intercept the transmission and instigate one or more hot zone events in Fed space. Some Star Fleet faction players might choose to take their high-end ships into battle against the Borg -- and if victorious, they might obtain Borg tech that could be reverse engineered and added to their ship via crafting. Players in the Federation Defense faction (composed of Federation citizens who aren't in Star Fleet) might use their lower-end ships to do patrol missions in the hot zones created by the Klingons. Players in one of the Borg factions would, of course, be the instigators of this series of hot zone events. Perhaps because there are crafting materials in the Xarantine sector that are too hard to get anywhere else. And players in the Romulan Star Empire factions would find their own ways in which to exploit the chaos.
Starbases: In addition, it would only be possible to change your core equipment (engines, deflector, shields, and warp core) on your ship while docked at a starbase or special facility. It would not be possible (for most ships) to do it anywhere else. You could still change weapons, but doing so would require time. The more crew your ship has, the less time this takes. Consoles would be the easiest to change. Starbases and shipyards would also allow you to change your BO layout. Want a ship that looks and flies like a cruiser but has the BO layout of an escort? You can make it happen at a shipyard.
If the game were to follow a model like that, the type of engines you outfit your ship with, as well as the maximum warp and/or impulse speeds those engines can provide, all become key factors in the overall gameplay. Science ships might then also specialize in equipping long range sensor consoles that display the number and velocities of ships traveling toward your current location. So you might have waves of players in fast escorts showing up first, followed by second, third, and fourth waves of cruisers and sci ships. And then later waves of salvage, hospital, and slaver ships.
Establishing starbases in order to maintain sector control, and establishing planetary and asteroid colonies in order to maintain mining production would be major aspects of fleet play. Exploration, slave trading, raiding, infiltration, intelligence, patrol, and more would all be aspects of fleet play. (These would all be managed through an interface somewhat similar to the old Doff UI, but with far more utility and agency. Enough micromanagement to be effective, but not so much that it becomes a full-blown turn-based strategy game.) Fleets would be limited only by their chosen focus, but choosing a select set of areas to focus on would be key to running a successful operation.
And the set of principles you choose to follow -- whether Federation Morality, Klingon Honor, Romulan Dignity, Borg Unity, or one of a number of other defined sets -- would influence the sociopolitical landscape of the galaxy.
Timegated Projects: Fleet (and solo player) facilities and ships would all require population/crew in order to run effectively. Feds would typically employ paid crew and unpaid (but well-treated) holograms. Klings would typically employ paid crew and unpaid slaves. How well, and with what, a captain pays his crew, as well as other factors like working environment, food stocks, job risk, and so on would all influence Morale. Morale is one of several metrics used to determine the speed, and the quality chance, of fleet and personal project results. Morale is one way in which meaning can be added to the crew and timegate mechanics. A handful of fanatical crewmen fighting for a cause they believe in can be more effective at keeping a ship together than one maintained by a thousand slaves.
Yeah, so, that's what i miss about STO: The actual Star Trek part.
Have you ever actually played the game? Do you have any codebase management? The tray is broken, and the STF's are impossible. Why should we give you our time or money?

(You didn't specify *which* game that we love...)
Have you ever actually played the game? Do you have any codebase management? The tray is broken, and the STF's are impossible. Why should we give you our time or money?
