Yeah, it's like a grumpy cat commercial up in here, terrible :)

To be fair, Taco only say he doesn't know anymore. But it's not its job. Misquoting Taco will not help.

As for Smirk, he is the PR guy. Even if DR was the worse release ever, and PWE was screaming all over the place because they are bleeding money, he would still say it's a very successful expansion. Part of the job.

Yet we have been asked by Taco to stop using that as an example of how Cryptic lied to us, and I am willing to take him at face value on that one. However it doesn't help Taco and Cryptic when someone still appears to be paints it as such. It is perception here, it may not even have been Smirks intent. I didn't mean to imply that Taco was aying it is the worst, and if that is how it cam across I appologise for that, and I also appologise to Taco.

I agree with Taco I'm not sure either.

The biggest problem I have, believe it or not, isn't so much the ingame problems or the nerfs it is the way certain members of Cryptic have treated the players. If they balls up it's not their fault it is the players who they then brand then as cheaters. Yes the problems and nerfs bother me but that level of "customer service" is just disgusting, if I had treated any customer like that in any of my jobs I would have been sacked on the spot.

Down side poor Taco gets it in the neck as the one we see a lot of. I thought we had made a move in the right direction when we got more "yellows" posting but then they went quiet.

Now, server population, that would be an important information. Is it higher than LoR, lower, dropping rapidly ? Obviously, he will not say that, even if it's very high.
I just know Cryptic had to make 3-4 events to keep players into the game. Including free giveaway. You don't do that much when you have a very successful thing going on.

WE have seen some info, but only from one source that being Steam. However even that is not something that can be taken as gospel as it does depend on how many people use Steam compared to the population of the game as a whole. Also we have annecdotal info from people regarding their fleets and friends lists. However even this can't be taken as fact.

As you say unless they release server population info we are just guessing. I agree we are not likely to see that info any time soon.

We've already been told by Taco that we should stop pulling the "Best expansion" ever comment as an example of Cryptic lying to us, and even admits it may not be, yet here you are spouting it again. No wonder people still use it. Oh here's tacos post:

    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=20901091&postcount=282

If he keeps telling you "record sales"... Maybe there really were record sales, and that's good for the game? And normally the consequence of record sales is not "game is dead!"

"Dead Queues" is one of those menaingless indicators - every time there is new story mission content, you can bet thta people first do that. Now we don't just have that, but also new levels to "grind" - of course people are going where the skill points are, and marks and dilithium becomes less important. People don't magically have more time to play the game, so they reprioritize what they spend their time on.

If the Mirror Invasion Queues had been empty, then you would have a very, very compelling data point. Because a lump sum of 50,000 Dilithium and 250 Marks and a special reward in a lmiited amount of time - that's attractive, and it beats even gaining levels - the levels can be earned later, the event is limited.

I know, I believe I was the first one to bring steamchart on the forum to talk about DR. And I consult steamchart almost daily (it's a hobby of mine, I like marketing and stuff, can't help it).
Unfortunately Steamchart have some limits. It's great to see trends and all, but I wish we had a graph also for average players (currently only peak players).

Still, reading Smirk post, and then look at the last days sharp drop in the peak steam player on STO bring me a smile. Then I think it's Smirk job to handle that, and I realize he must have a hard time, and I stop smiling. As he said, he is human, and I don't want harm on him or any dev. Yes, including Geko.

Heck no. Reward Cryptic for giving out buggie trash DR release and a huge nerf among other things???

I'm seeing a lot of this 'sentiment' in this thread, and it sounds pretty immature.

If I buy something from the C-store, I am not 'rewarding Cryptic'. I am buying something I -want-, for me, not for them. I am in effect rewarding myself.

If Cryptic makes a buck giving me what I want - I don't see that as being something 'terrible', or some sort of approval of other issues that have nothing to do with my purchase.

You guys really need to get over the whole 'us vs. them' mindset.

Remember that Smirk, like Brandon before him, is paid by PWE directly, not a part of Cryptic. So its not totally fair to use that comment on Cryptic lying to people.

I have little doubt no matter what the actual results are Smirk is paid to make it sound like things are fantastic, its his job.

Record sales, not sure I quite believe this one. Population has been pretty dismal before DR so having a record sale seems unlikely. The key is how they measure records, because I'm 100% sure it is the best Delta Rising expansion sales they've ever had.. doesn't mean that stat is meaningful, its just words

Highest livestream numbers ever, easily explained by giving TRIBBLE away. People love to waste their time for free stuff not worth their time. Timesharing is proof of that garbage. The exact same strategy has been used to get Arc installed on X many computers.. people will install it to get the free junk and never use it, but its too late because now they have the justification to force it on you.

More celebs joining with each expansion. Well you paid them... this is a no brainer

Coverage on more gaming sites and media hosts than ever. Anyone that knows how game site operate know that they are lazy. Game sites don't actively cover anything, PR people like Smirk send out hundreds of e-mails, probably more, that announce everything they can. The game sites sift through the emails and post what they thnk will give them the most hits. More coverage just means their database for game sites and the amount of "announcements/giveaways" have been more. Nothing to do with success.

The doom and gloom is strong in this thread.
And as usual, those of us with longer memories than a goldfish are well aware of what's going on here.
It's the same thing that goes on everytime a major WoW expansion drops.
Not to mention that it's the time of the year when the big games tend to get released.
And that it's thanksgiving coming up, so some people have other things to be running around desperately trying to sort instead of sitting around playing games.
So the number of players online is currently down? Quelle surprise.
But the people who seem to be bizarrely invested in seeing STO come to an end are going to keep on whining in forums, spouting ridiculous conspiracy theories and just making stuff up, because, hey, they're bizarrely invested in seeing STO come to an end.

    It'll leave you pennyless
    Or with a credit fraud

But I've got a credit card baby....

And I pay for this game

No ... that's usually "Summer" ... but I guess you can alway find excuses like : there was an Eclipse in Paramaribo during March + Farmville Addon => obviously less players ...

No, even more bizarrely invested in seeing STO become enjoyable again.

If I wanted a mind-numbing, soul-destroying occupation which involved doing the exact same thing over and over again for barely enough reward to make it worthwhile, where a whole day barely scraped in enough reward to be noticeable, I'd find myself a commission-only telephone sales job.

Must be a conspiracy, I see so many posts where people say their fleet are shrinking, their friends are leaving, the queues are deserted, zones that were once crowded seem quite. Others say that they are playing much less than they used to, fortunately, no one says they quit.

I guess they must all be quite misguided.

Glad you're here to put that all straight. And Smirk to tell us all is well.

Me, I've not played a map since the MUI, waiting for the next event, or some significant change in the rewards and missions to being more like the pre-DR days.

I must be quite misguided too.

People have been saying this in MMO forums as long as their have been MMO forums to say it in. Its like the boy who cried wolf, after a while you know is all BS and you ignore it.

Star Wars Galaxies NGE is considered pretty universally in the MMO gaming community as the worst thing a MMO ever did to itself, and SWG still ran 6 years after that.

Please don't give them more money. It only encourages them to pump out more grinds, nerfs and cash grabs. Plenty of other silly stuff to spend money on this holiday period.

If it's record sales, then everything the customers have suffered through - the weeks of game-stopping bugs, the brutal nerfs and adjustments, and the drop-off in players has been worth it all.

'Cause you being profitable means we will get better product with fewer bugs, that will attract more players and build the community.

I'm all for you being successful because it means more STO for me.

    Happy Thanksgiving ;)
