I would say that getting a new ship would be your top priority here. Mirror ships are stuck at T5 and can't be upgraded. You're a full tier behind now and don't get any mastery bonuses.

If you're looking at T5U, then I would say the Tempest. It's a solid ship, comes with a sweet uni console, and the Fleet version only needs a T1 shipyard to get. It's what I use on my tac alt.

nice build n its already more than capable. also, hope u equip some good space doffs.

now u learn how to fly it, ideally with a team that knows what they're doing to beat the 30k dps mark.

What are some good space doffs?

If you're looking for DPS and you're going to buy a new ship.. I wouldn't go T5-U.

You're going to first likely buy a CStore Variant for 2500 Zen. Then you'll go fleet for another 500 Zen. Once done, you need to upgrade to T5-U for 700 Zen.

    Total Cost: 3700 Zen

You could spend 3000 Zen on the Phantom Intel Escort and get access to Surgical Strikes and other intel abilities that will serve to substantially up your DPS. Going from a flat T5 ship to a T6 would be a sizable upgrade and 700 zen cheaper then T5-U. Not to mention, you'll get another upgrade once fleet T6 comes out and still be under the cost of the T5-U Ship.

The big drawback.. the ship is ugly.

Not necessarily. There are quite a few T5 ships that cost 2000, not 2500. (For some examples, the Retrofit variants of the Galaxy, Defiant, Excelsior and Intrepid.) And the ship upgrade token and the fleet module can both be acquired via non-Zen methods. So it's possible to get a Fleet T5U for 2000 Zen (1600 if you wait for a 20% off ship sale).

Yes, there are some ships you can get cheaper. For example, the C-Store version of the Avenger isn't really worth buying, you could just get 4 fleet modules and go straight to the fleet version bringing your base cost down to 2000 Zen. With the T5-U Upgrade, you would be a 2700 Zen. Not a bad path considering the Avenger is still one of the top ships in the game.

There are options sure, but if he's going to be spending, it just seems a better investment to go T6 to give him the 'latest and greatest' so to speak. Plus he'll be able to go fleet in the future as to where the T5U ships are at their current cap.

I guess it depends on the individual and how they see their money being best spent. My biggest problem with the Phantom is that I don't like the appearance. The only T6 ship I like is the Guardian (The Pathfinder is kinda cool, just not my cup of tea.) Those intel ships while nice stat wise.. are just awful looking.

To be honest, I have the fleet Defiant, and the C-Store version. But the fleet one is not impressive. If you have more than one character, I recommend the C-Store version. The one console will not make a huge improvement, and with how little hull and shields the C-Store version comes with, the fleet one doesn't give a big increase.

The difference in about 10% over what the C-Store one has. For an escort, that is not a lot. For a cruiser. You will see a big difference.

Also, when considering another ship, you will want to consider the BOFF seating carefully. For exile, if you go with the Defiant, you will lose the ensign engineering station. That station becomes a mandatory tactical for three tactical stations. I usually leave it empty, since I usually don't have more than two tac officers.

I don't have the Tempest, but I have been able to use o on a friends account. I prefer it over the Defiant. It has a much better console than the cloaking one. Also, it has better stations than the Defiant as well. And if you decide to do strafing runs, the cannon on the back will compliment a good torp, and will help keep the shields down while the torp is making its way to the enemy.

Again, I would go with the C-Store version instead of fleet. The only advantage of the fleet ones is if you just can't farm the dil, or buy the Zen for the C-Store ones.

I haven't used Phantom yet. However, I have seen what it is capable of. From what I have seen, it can be more powerful than the Tempest, but not by much. And I will not worry about upgrading the Tempest if you get it, unless you just want to do elite. The Defiant does enough DPS for the advanced STF/PVEs. So the Tempest shouldn't have any trouble keeping up.
