My engineer is currently swimming in elite rewards from ground elite missions. You name it, he can pretty much face rolls it. Yes, build, gear, and skill play a part, yet it is the sheer explosive(pun intended)damage that makes ground elites a cakewalk for engineers.
I love how people say elite is for ELITE pre made only. I have not joined a pre existing group yet.
It's really sad that my engineer is getting very little action in space because no one but the chest thumping 50k elitist can plow through the content. With the exception of CEA ISA the space queues are dead. Elite ground is giving everything Elite space offers so why on earth would the Elitist care about protecting the status quo? Dead Queues are one of the first thing new players to this game will see. That is NOT a good first impression. That is NOT how you market a product.
Fill the queues and down with the challenge, because it isn't a challenge. It will never be a challenge. The only thing that will keep players happy is if it's enjoyable.
Talk about "Chest Thumping", Lol. I'm glad you found a path.
I'm not chest thumping, I'm pugging! My point is you can't even pug Azure Nebula Advance because you only have 17 seconds before the mission starts to try to plan something. I'm talking about pugging Breach elite, oh wait you cant because no one runs it. I'm talking about not offering a Battle of Kortez normal to allow players to get the feel for the mission before trying it on elite.
I'm talking about fail sauce mechanics that cater to min/max mentality.
- Gear: Sure its needed. Good part is you have massive stuff to choose from and basically all will do. We only talk about a handful of items and they are cheap and fast to get.
- Build: Yea there are some good and some bad options but hardly any headache of what to choose.
- Skill: defiantly agreed! You either have it or you dont. If its the latter you can learn fast if u keep at it.
Ground is much more accessible than space for the average player. In my case its even much more fun but thats a personal preference.
Queue up for ground everybody. Hope to see you there.

Well, the ground Borg STF's, except "Into the Hive" don't have Elite versions at the moment (Yes, I'm lvl 60), and the Advanced make me want to sleep, due to being too easy. Also a ground-loving dweller here.
[10:20] Your Lunge deals 4798 (2580) Physical Damage(Critical) to Tosk of Borg.

Well I wouldnt go that far as calming it to be too easy cuz it always depends on the team you know. Its much fun there to go in with new players and see if they grow or to encounter situations where u have to rely on urself to see if you can cope with it.
Fun part remains really that its so easy accessible for everybody compared to the build and know-how pre-requirements you encounter in STOs spacecobat

I mostly pug, as you're right, it's quite challenging to deal with newer player, than seasoned veterans! Ground is a lot of fun.

I would still say advanced is reasonably accessible on ground, for a couple of reasons actually.
The first is that ground from what we have thus far does not discriminate between builds or types of captains. You can take any good build and you'll be contributing.
The second thing is that if the team is willing to learn from the pros about how ground works then even with considerably less than ideal gear they should be able to make good use of it to complete the mission, though I will say that it might still need a tweak for those who are fresh 50's but aside from that it seems pretty good.
The problem I have is that ground missions with Elite settings are all pathetically easy. Granted we haven't got the Borg elites on the most part yet and Infected needs fixing, but overall it does seem space is horribly unbalanced and ground is way too easy on Elite, so we do need a balance pass to sort it out. Not that I have much faith in Cryptic to do it.

I no longer do any Bug Hunting work for Cryptic. I may resume if a serious attempt to fix the game is made.

well you are lucky; i also mostly pug; in fact all the time, and each time i try khitomer in stasis advanced, this is a failure. And sometimes for 1 or 2 seconds; frustrating
So what do we learn here: Engineers are OP, pls nerf
Though ground cant really be called elite, all but HSE is pretty near soloable by a good player. The rest of the team can be worse than your Boffs (which also sets high standards though) and you get through with it.
Comments
Elite - NPCs on a par with tournament level PvP players.
Advanced - NPCs on a par with decent Ker'rat Fed residents.
Normal - NPCs with builds and skill setups like a typical player.
What we have:
Elite: Bring a chunk of DPS.
Advanced: Bring a smaller chunk of DPS.
Normal: Bring a ship with stuff equipped.
It isn't right.
