Lockbox Singularity

synthiasuicidesynthiasuicide Member Posts: 458 Arc User
Isn't it about time they put out a couple lockbox ships with a Singularity core?
Or at least one? lol

Sure wont sell like the rest, but seriously leaves Roms who like the Singularity out. I got the benthan, but went back to a warbird. Missed having those powers.

    well I wish all classes/factions were more....different.
The singulairty Core at least made a Rom feel that way. But I wanted more power so saved up and got the new shiny. And sure its fun, the benthan is top of the line for a cruiser. But, took away the uniqueness of that toon. So back to the othership. lol

Just a Rom's chance at a Lockbox ship with a singularity core are slim since that would cut back sales.

I wish the KDF had more than one intel ship.
Or a new carrier after 4 years.
Or at least half the number of fed c store ships.
    Or a well designed Bortasq.

But I gave up on wishing years ago.
Should I start posting again after all this time?

If Cryptic wanted to do something nice for Players that roll Romulan Characters they would have made it so that every Lockbox vessel opened by a Romulan Character could have its core replaced with a Singularity Core.

When they made different faction Wells and Mobius', they created new designs, but for the Romulan, it should have had a singularity core and for both of Romulan and the KDF, they should have had cloaking devices!

I wish I could have a token/trait/random space magic item to use on a ship and change it to AM core to singularity or the contrary.

I would use it on all my rom ship in a heartbeat. Ah, the feeling to have those wonderful AM core again, without any kind of power level penalty, quite the opposite in fact. I'll give up all those gimmicks I barely ever use anyway (lol plasma shockwave lol).

Sadly, this is just a dream.

AFAIK, all the singularity core lockbox ships are MU retofits, and inexplicably NOT available for upgrade, even if you purchase an upgrade token. I've got a Dhelan, Ha'feh, and Ha'pax all from lockboxes...
Expendables Fleet: Andrew - Bajoran Fed Engineer Ken'taura - Rom/Fed Scientist Gwyllim - Human Fed Delta Tac
Savik - Vulcan Fed Temporal Sci
    Dahar Masters Fleet: Alphal'Fa - Alien KDF Engineer Qun'pau - Rom/KDF Engineer D'nesh - Orion KDF Scientist Ghen'khan - Liberated KDF Tac

Usually, when people say "Lockbox ships", they are talking about the rare/powerful ones. MU ships are more of a filler item. :)

They used to be really competitive, but Deltra Rising has screwed them over.

Before DR, my mirror BOP was superior to my FLEET norgh for dps output. After upgrading it, the fleet ship is significantly better. Depends on the ship ... but for damage dealers esp, the mirrors will be at a significant disadvantage to ships that now have 1 more (usually tac) console and 3 new damage increasing abilities. Non damage ships still will be at a disadvantage but the passives gained by the non dps ships are not as impressive as even more damage multipliers. Take my carrier for example... it was already unkillable, and they gave it shield hit points, hull hit points, and shield regen... you can't tell the difference because it was already unkillable. Whereas my BOP got something like crit chance, crid damage, and straight up 10% to all damage, and I forgot the 4th one, possibly resist all(?) which is more useful on a fragile ship...

Yeah, but depends on the carrier. Like the Kar'Fi and JHDC, they already had good damage output with the seating and DR made them better with +10% damage.

I would be satisfied if they just allowed us to equip singularity cores in lockbox ships. If we're supposedly refitting them for Romulan use anyway, why not?

Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

Well, isn't the Lobi Consortium behind it. MAybe they still lack the experience?

I guess Cryptic doesn't want to double up the lockbox ships - because I doubt they could make a ship that can use both a Warp Core with full power levels and a Singularity levels with reduced power levels but singularity powers. :/ And so they would basically need to make the same ship twice. And considering that they still have failed to deliver secondary deflectors to all science vessels despite this basically being in the works for 1 year, that seems not as easy as it sounds. :(

In short, tech limitations are the bane of neat ideas.

would not sell like the rest???
feds would gobble them up like candy. Assuming cloak and singularity powers, that is. Feds all the time wanting moar cloak, and I am sure some of them would love to try out weapon damage or temp hit point shield or the other powers. Even some kdf would probably grab one. And some roms as well, being used to the ships AND box ships tending toward strong stats/builds...

they would IMHO be very, very popular.

Right. I said "depends on the ship". But any ship that upgraded with no damage package fell behind. Its now a weird mishmash of ...
t5 ships that upgraded dps with passive perks and consoles and are on-par
t5 ships that upgraded without dps and are (mostly) sub-par
t6 dps ships that faceroll everything
t6 non-dps ships that are barely competetive with the better t5Us that got dps perks (scim vs rom t6 cruiser for example)
t6 ships that are middle of the road

    and so on

If you did then why would you want ships with Singularity Cores? If anyone is going to buy them it would be Feds because of how OP they claim they are.

As we know when Feds can't or wont counter something they call it OP a.k.a. the Aceton Assimilator. So like it's been said Feds would eat a Sing Core ship up...is it to much to ask Feds that the game doesn't become some homogenized lump of boring...oh wait it is because you want everything to be yours and don't give a shred about the other two factions.

heh, meanwhile I run non singularity ships on my roms. I do not care if the feds got a box singularity ship. More power to them (or, actually, less power... lol... as they will see if it happens).

The big balance issue is rom officers. IMHO the ships are pretty well balanced, but the issue is simply 3 statements...
    - dps is king
    - roms have tactical ships, almost exclusively
    - roms have SRO.

a fed in a rom singularity ship would be like a noob rom using human bridge officers. The rom in the same ship will still come out ahead. Just as my SROs and racial trait boost my nicor to obscene potential. If they wanted to balance the game, that one thing (SRO -like space passive for all factions) would do more than anything else.

They NEGLECT ROM and KDF totally. I still think it was a real swizz that the ROM wasn't a genuine faction and you had to side with either FED or KDF

I've always said that Romulan players should have an option that allowed them to swap in Singularity cores and all ships that they have access to.

I said the same thing in the past with the KDF.

The KDF should be able to add basic cloaking to all ships that they have access to (at the cost of a console slot)

But in the case of the Romulans they should have a retrofit or upgrade to Singularity project that would allow them to install singularity cores on all the ships that they can get.

    Factional perks

Romulans get to add Singularity Cores to all non singularity core ships that they can fly.

Klingons get to add Basic Cloaking to all non cloaking ships that they can fly.

The Federation (Not really sure what would make sense here)

Roms would have to have the right to add both Battle Cloaking when a Singularity Core is equipped if KDF can add Basic Cloaking.

Of course, to not gyp the KDF entirely, Lobi/Lockbox ships with basic cloaking can be upgraded to Battle Cloaking as well, unless it's console-related (Voth 2 and 3 set being a Voth Cloak and Voth Battle Cloak) and Lobi/Lockbox Escorts also get a minor Flanking bonus along with the cloak upgrade.

Feds get +1 Fore weapon slot on all but 5 Fore/3 ships, upon which the +1 weapon slot goes to the aft. Because they don't need stealth anyway and most everyone loves Feds anyway. Because the only other alternative is 2 extra consoles (with the supposedly noble intent of allowing full use of Unique ship console sets though in reality, just to keep the Feds ahead of the rest).

And because really, Fed owned ships may as well make up for things with more firepower or more consoles, since cloaking is technically still a Rom/KDF thing and Singularity a Rom thing and Flanking a KDF thing. Besdes; the Feds are flexible. 2 extra consoles would represent that but would spark too much drama. So an extra weapon may as well be the lesser of the two evils.

Talking about Mirror Ships (which I loved) why not (like the Kazon Raider) let people just upgrade them?
