Only thing to do that is to get the fleet ambassador and upgrade that. It's a T3 shipyard I think, so it's not too difficult. They ruled out upgrading the original Ambassador by declaring it a promotional giveaway. Why? I have no idea.

The T5 Ambassador (the Fleet one at least) is upgradable...

This is assuming you're not on about the free one that they gave away, in which case, you're most likely out of luck.

I am a Romulan so the T5 Ambassador is my only option atm since I do not want to fly enemy ships or Warbirds.

An upgrade would be nice, but generally I've done well with an Aux2bat build.

Well that wouldn't work either way; Romulan (and Reman) characters don't get to fly upgraded Federation or Klingon ships. It's not just the Ambassador that is at a disadvantage here, it's all non-republic ships.

You will not be able to have a T5U Federation or Klingon ship with a Republic character.

No, you won't. Romulans cannot use T5 ships (nor T5-U ships) of their allies. Fleet ships are T5. Romulans also cannot use T6 ships of their allies.

It was gurluas, and not themasta897 that was referencing their Republic character. :)

Ah, my apologies. In my concern that someone might somehow be able to waste Dil and Fleet Credits on something they could not use, I did not double check before posting.

You can't buy a ship you can't use anyway, so there is at least a safeguard against an expensive mistake. :)

Why make even make a Romulan character if you aren't going to fly Romulan ships?

And any Fleet Modules he would've bought would've been tradeable anyway (if only between his own characters if they got account-bound because of that dumbass probation policy). I funded two ships that way, grinding dil and EC on all three toons to buy FSMs with zen and the Exchange.

Gotta agree. I've found the freebie Ambassador to be pretty impressive. It took a little tweaking post-DR to get it useable at the new end-game, but I find it surprisingly competitive with a T5-U or T6 just as-is.

    Variety?

Lets say someone has only ever played FED creates a Republic character and aligns them with the KDF; they get access to KDF ships (the BoP's make for interesting builds with their full universal boff seating). Furthermore, Republic ships aren't too favourable of science captains, so one might turn to a Science Ship of one of the main two factions whilst they level up.

Then there's consoles that can be claimed (again). A whole number of reasons. :)

Umm...the Ambassador isn't very Science-y, I mean maybe if they were actually flying the fleet version they could make it kind with that Lt Uni.

If you want to fly a BoP then here is a wild idea...why not roll a KDF character?

That's right...they want it for the exact reason they put this system in there in the first place...because someone wants a Romulan crit crew without having to fly a Romulan ship...so yeah lets remove that so everyone can just roll Romulans and no need to roll any other race or faction in the game!

The only non-Romulan ship you can get to T5U is the Steamrunner but PWE patched getting that on a Romulan a few weeks after the Steamrunner was released. The only other way I can think of that it might be possible would be to upgrade the Z-Store Ambassador on another character (non-fleet since your Romulan can't access the fleet version) and then the upgrade should unlock for your Romulan. It won't be the 11 console version with fleet hull but you will have 10 consoles and Starship Mastery added to your ship. From my experience, I find the Ambassador holds up well even without any upgrading.

Romulan ship options definitely are lacking. The only reason PWE doesn't allow Romulan characters in the ships of their aligned factions is purely based on money. They want you to buy the Romulan options that really aren't that interesting. If you must go with a Romulan ship, the D'Dex is about your best option in my opinion.

I'm sure more ships will be added to the upgrade list in the future. With so many ships now, I think they are doing them in batches. Get the most popular ones first, then work on the others.

To me it don't matter. I'm still using my Ambassador and still going strong. So far I have yet to blow up in the DR missions. I came close, but pulled through on that one mission.

Its not about money. You can't use a Fed with a Romulan ship. Or a KDF using a Romulan ship. You have to use their faction based ships. So it should be the same with a Romulan.

Only a few ships managed to slip past the restriction.

Oh dear... You're wrong of course. You should have a look at the differences in stats - there's not a huge gap between t5 and t5-u. If you can't handle elite content in T5 then switching to T5-u or T6 isn't going to magically make you into some sort of Elite STF God.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't dead serious on the matter ;)

But what you say is true to a certain degree for cruisers. Science vessels, however, profit a lot from the T5U starship mastery thingy that grants quite a bonus to exotic damage potential and shield healing.

I like the race and the lore, and the traits.
but I dislike the ships, and my Romulan associates more with the Federation than the Republic or the Empire. She's also reunificationist. (On equal terms)

The Ambassador is the best Fed ship I can fly atm. I used to fly a tier 4.5 Intrepid before Delta Rising.

I've had the Steamrunner in my inventory for ages, and every patch I try to use it to no avail.
    (Same with the D'kyr)

I did consider getting the fleet one on my Federation character to see if the non-fleet becomes upgradeable.
But I need confirmation first, I don't want to risk wasting a lot of cash.

Haha! Yes! I just tested my T4 Bellerophon after getting some new gear, and it was pretty darn good. I wouldn't risk in it Advanced queues (mainly because it wouldn't be fair to the rest of the PUG), but it runs just fine in Normal.

If the Republic could access the end-game ships of the KDF and Federation, there'd be no reason for anyone to roll toons in the KDF or Federation - it'd be self-limiting.

And it'd be weird for my Romulan to be flying around in the newest-of-the-new Federation ships. Makes sense to me that the Republic would be offered some of the older models for use, as part of the alliance.

Some of the Republic ships are... definitely strange. But there are some gems in there: the Ar'kif, the Aelahl, the Dhelan with the lowered wing arch. Some of the designs are very, very nice. And if the Aelahl is a sign of things to come, then Cryptic is going in the right direction. That thing very much looks like where I'd have thought Romulan design might have ended up post-Nemesis.

I would say more hybrid ships for faction aligned would be the best direction to go. Maybe even just a simple kitbash if they want to be lazy about it. If not, bind the Singularity powers to the Singularity cores and allow Romulan ships to use Warp Cores at the cost of losing the Singularity powers. Personally, I would love that Romulan green hull on a Galaxy X with those Romulan green nacelles with a Plasma Lance. :D

I would personally love flying the D'kyr as my sig suggests.
It's the most fitting ship for a reunificationist.

But a T5U Ambassador would have been great as well.
Still, it's good to have Tier 5 at last :)

I had a top end ship for a few weeks ^^
