So I was looking through the Defiant customization options the other day and to my surprise noticed the "refit" options on the Gallant and Vigilant models, which were a nice ninja touch.
Anyway, looking at some of the concept drawings that were had for the Phantom, is there any way we would see some of that in the near future for said ship? There was one drawing near final concept that made it look more aggressive with the pylons arching forward.
For the life of me I cannot find the artist concept drawings and the links in the blog are broken =\
I think one of the ship artists said they'd love to have far more ship customisation if they had the time for it. It's just that they don't have that time, for the most part. That said, some of those new Defiant bits would look amazing on the Phantom.

I'd imagine it's more like it's more profitable to make new ships than work on multiple customizations for old/current ones so that's why they don't have the *time*.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
I'd buy the Phantom class if it could use the Defiant skin. Other than that I have zero interest in the vehicle.
Yeah to be honest I thought there would be more options to play with it than there was, I flew the Defiant religiously until the Patrol Escort revamp, and I only took up that ship because of the Boff layout.
Same with the Phantom, if the Defiant had the same boff layout I'd still be scraping paint off of my enemies hull's during flybys with that thing..
I very very much want a defiant skin for phantom. Like the people above I flew only the defiant for a LONG time. I really want surgical strikes with it.
Currently i bought it for the trait and planed to go back to defiant when I got it.. havent yet because surgical strikes is awesome. It looks more cannon because you dont spit out mass beams/cannons and still get the damage. Wish more stuff worked like this.
I was initially not interested in the intel ships but the phantom did look interesting out of all of them. It was the one T6 ship i did end up getting and yes surgical strikes is amazing. Its like a beam overload for all of your weapons. Also having beams with the over proc from crafting (chance your next beam attack is beam overload 1) works amazingly with surgical strikes for some really great damage.
As far as the looks there is some customizing options like the different hull materials to get a more federation look and even different nacelles. Its not a defiant its an evolution of the defiant. Much better designed that the other 2 intel ships.
There is only one thing that I don't like about the phantom escort. The fact that if you are going to use the HPL you have to use phaser based build. It's the only way to get that thing to do any real damage. I would love it if the Lances were able to change energy damage type based on what you want it to be. I would love to run AP on my ship but I can't if I want to maintain the ONE advantage to the ship (100% shield penetrating heavy phaser lance)
Isn't there a retro model/skin for the Phantom that looks a lot like the Defiant? No, not exact, but close.
Honestly, I'd love it if they would go back and FIX the models that they have neglected for so many years!
Gal-X lance being askew, Venture skin missing 25% of the windows underneath the saucer, Avenger has an area left of the deflector that isn't skinned right, I'm sure these more.
I'm sure that skinning takes a lot of time, but some of this stuff breaks the immersion sometimes.
Cryptic Devs, please, you need some amount of time to fix these lingering issues, not just the usual break-fix cycles. Please.

I share this view. This is the only Intel ship I actually like the look of. I got it yesterday, after long hesitation, but I had some stipend saved so I thought: I like the look so why the heck not. There are slight customizations, you may disable those sensor "windows" on the sides of the front of the hull for example. One can also disable that rear "elevator" surface and end-up with ship with two small tails. There are all standard materials available on top of the Intel stealth material.
Before this ship this toon was flying Defiant canon build with Quad Phasers (and Chimera before that) so Phaser build is not an issue for me, I am not mini-maxer and I am quite used to that. I am also specced a bit into Decompiler and Particle Gen. to be able to get more out of Bio-Molecular Phasers.
(In fact, I created this toon specifically to troll around in canon Aquarius. But eventually, when I saw I'd have to pay 2500 zen for it (4 modules + T5U upgrade) as a single char unlock, I reconsidered and got Phantom as account-wide unlock for 3000 + it has very useful ship trait)
However, to react on OP's comment, Phantom is not Defiant replacement, nor evolution so it kinda does not make sense for it to be able to use Defiant model. The ship is much bigger then Defiant and it has an animated hatch at rear that opens to release and retrieve Intel drone. Imho it looks pretty much like badazz stealth bomber.
Either you like it or not. Take Phantom for what it is, pass on it otherwise.
I really like the look of, and have been enjoying, the Phantom and the Klingon Q'ib. It's the Fed intel-Sci ship that looks so terrible no matter how I change it, I rarely want to play that character now. lol.
I definitely do wish there were more ship-customization options. Nothing overly crazy, but just more variety.
I think the Phantom looks pretty cool with Eclipse nacelles, gives it a more streamlined shape. And I like the options on the secondary hull.
Plus the Eclipse looks pretty nifty with the phantom nacelles on it, gives it a nice unique look you can't get from any other fed ships (big saucer and stumpy nacelles).
The Scryer looks hideous no mater what you do with it. The nacelles it comes with are just terrible and the saucer looks like a badly rendered circle shape.

I rather enjoy my Phantom greatly, it fits my style of fighting, it looks cool without the Intel skin on it, although, if I could use the Defiant skin on it, i would, the built in cloak is an added bonus, would be more helpful if it were battle cloaked, but thats not the point,

It has good hull points for an escort,
