Iconians, the reason I asked is because I can't transcribe all of them, but was going to offer to do one of them. If one of the Priority One peeps can email me the audio file of the last podcast I'll transcribe it. My email is jpwr39@gmail.com.
I'll do the transcript and send it back to them so they can post it in the appropriate place.

I'm not in any position to decide which Podcast is more important to transcribe than the others. I think this is something that should be universal, as all podcasts share in the same beneficial service of information and entertainment. And I'm not comfortable playing favorites -- even if it's a type of reverse naming and shaming.
Although I do respect your initiative to help your fellow STO players, and hope others follow your example or at the very least understand why this is important.
While this is a personal issue for me, this line of communication is not just about me. I am just more vocal about it.
It is about every STO player who does not have functional ears, speakers, headsets, soundcards, or the time or environment in which to listen to the information podcasts provide. Something that will never go away, no matter how much people may wish it will.
I'm not comfortable asking volunteers to do that for free.
I just want to point out that there is really nothing that a volunteer can't be asked to do and that what a person may earn to do something professionally should have no bearing on it. If you're not willing to ask a volunteer to do something, I'd say why not? Maybe find someone who is?
As someone who has managed unpaid volunteers in the past and has many years of managerial experience I see nothing wrong with asking volunteers to do anything that needs to be done.
There are countless unpaid interns out there doing the jobs of people who should be making x amount of money but are doing it free for just a chance to get the foot in the door. So why should this be any different?
Would it hurt for any STO podcasts to put out a call on their page/blog looking for a volunteer for transcribing the podcasts? You never know, there may be someone out there who'd be happy to do it.

To be perfectly fair to the podcasters, they do. The ones I've seen do have it very visible they are looking for additional volunteer talent.
However, I also think they do not go far enough in looking for that help.
As mentioned long ago, they (at least some of them) have the time and luxury to ask for their donators to send them to Las Vegas on their dime.
But I've yet to see any cash drives to hire transcriptionists for their dev interviews (if not their entire podcast which is really their perogative ).
I see a problem with this, even if others do not.
The willingness to ask for extra financial help for a trip to Las Vegas, but not the willingness to ask for financial help for the basic fundamental job of providing a hard copy (although technically I suppose it would still be soft copy) of their dev interviews.
I acknowledge that the problem exist in that those with hearing difficulties would have problem with Audio Formats for information.
I also acknowledge that as a former podcaster, I never would have thought of a hearing impaired person of wanting to "listen" to a podcast. Podcasts being an Audio Based production would naturally seemed to have precluded that Audience from my target audience.
I have never stated that one person is more important than another. What I did state was that getting transcripts was not a high priority. To clarify my position further, I would not have considered getting transcripts has being of higher priority as getting the podcast recorded, edited, produced and made available. Transcripting would only become of priority if I had received a lot of feedback stating they needed it in transcripted format. And, to me, that would meen that I would have had at least 25% of my subcriber numbers to even drive me to carve out more time from life to do. Let alone trying to figure out how to do it. So please to paint me with the brush that devalues people. But do use the brush that says I have to have significant reason to put in more effort on hobby than I was originally planning for. And I do not have the numbers of how many hearing impaired people play STO. And I don't even know how to get that data right now. So unless you can trot out this data, you nor I can state that the hearing impaired are or are not a significate part of the STO player population.
I know you are arguing otherwise, but I do not think that your arguing and blaming is the proper method to change things. The better method is to find solutions and activate them. If you can't get others to do, then find ways to do it yourself. To be honest, this is how I teach my children to be better people. And how I expect my emplyees to work for me. Bring forth a problem is fine. But don't complain about it unless you are willing to be part of the solution. I get a lot more things done this way at work, because I am not doing it all. And my kids are learning valuable troubleshooting skills.
I am fine with you responding. I just didn't want any sarcastic and/or rage filled responcise. I get enough of that at work from the public at large. And I haven't found your responces to my post to be anything but polite and at least on point.
I want to see if you are willing to do more than just complain that others are not doing the work. I want to see if you are willing to do that work yourself. If you are not, then I don't think you have the ethical ground to stand on your point because you are not willing to do it yourself. And one should never expect more from others than they are willing to do themeselves. That is what I want to know. Are you willing to do the work?
I'm MidNite Shadow and I am a podcaster for Tribbles in Ecstasy, Red Shirt Army and I also work with Priority One as a QA Consultant and occasional audio editor and I also work with the G&T Show on their book club.
Firstly, I can confirm that transcribing the podcasts would be a very timely endeavour that I personally do not have for. As well as the work on the above podcasts, I also work on other non-STO podcasts, work a full time job, work part time for myself, I'm a STO Community Forum moderator, I help out on multiple other projects and I have a wife and son that I love to spend time with.
I can also confirm that I do not have loads of money - hence working part time on top of a full time job! I'm just glad that I do not sleep much so I can do other projects!
That said, having the podcasts transcribed would be an excellent thing to have.
Now hausofmartok has already volunteered and I have already contacted him.
If anyone else, including you Iconians, would also like to volunteer then please contact me or reply to the STO Podcasts forum thread that I maintain and I will be more than willing to help organise any volunteers that can transcribe the podcasts with the podcasts themselves.
Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.
Agree to pay me the standard salary for making transcripts to make transcripts of STO podcasts and I'll do it.
Heck, agree to pay any of the podcasters who volunteer their time and they'd probably do it.
These people do what they are doing as a labor of love, because they are fans of the game.
What you are asking for is HOURS of additional volunteer work from these folks.
Again, it sucks that you don't have the ability to enjoy podcasts. (an audio and sometimes visual medium), but it is not the responsibility of unpaid, volunteer podcasters to provide transcripts for each and every one of their episodes.

There are programs that automatically transcribe what's said through a mic like dragon naturally speaking software or real-time that court reporters use but those would require some investment. Dragon is pretty good but it's not perfect and everybody would have to take turns speaking into the mic; otherwise, the corresponding text would be jumbled and would require some editing. In any case, the transcription would still have to be edited to ensure it was readable and had no typos.
That's not much of a choice. Either transcribe every dev interview on any podcast so those of us who want to remain informed about STO news can do so, or don't have dev interviews that release exclusive information to said podcasts at all, since not everybody can be informed by it.
That is the only fair option...
So, it's only about the Dev interviews?
You then don't care about other episodes of their broadcasts.
It's not transcribe Podcasts so I can enjoy them.
It's only transcribe the stuff that I am personally interested in?
What is it you are really asking for?
If it's only about the Dev Interviews then you are saying that the rest of the podcaster's work (weekly shows) are not worth transcribing, because they aren't of interest ?
Kind of seems a pretty specific and self important view.
Also to note : you brought this all up when Smirk was simply promoting some of the podcasts. Not even Dev interviews. He was merely supporting the fans who take it upon themselves to provide podcasts. And once again, I can't think this is a bad thing. Seeing our CM support the fans and what they do is plain awesome.
