Just turned off trying to run the 'Patrol Xiokel' system. Going to skip over it if DR allows. Reason? The Target Ship has 900,000+ HP. My T5U Fleet Mogai has Mk XIII Very Rare everything, with a CrtH of 14.5% and a CrtD of 100.5% I should have seen at least
one Crit better than 20,000. I can routinely get Crits against everything else in the 10 - 25k range and usually get at least two per firing pass. Corrosive Plasma Weapons are very good at reducing damage resistance as well. But mine seemed to do little other than really tick off the Vaadwaur. Come to think of it, I never got the graphic indicating DOT plasma damage either.
None of this seems to matter against the Target Ship. Which is apparently a Vaadwaur Heavy Artillery Ship. Emphasis on "Heavy", lol. I think the best I managed was a Crit for around 500 HP and most of my shots were right around the 100 - 350 HP mark.
I'm guessing the huge HP is in line with all the other DR stuff. I am also guessing there may be a problem with this ship. Honestly, guys? If I wanted to shoot down the Death Star, I'd be playing SWTOR instead of STO. And I am fairly certain I can hit that exhaust port. After all I used to bullseye womp rats in Beggar's Canyon back home in my T-16. And they're a lot smaller than two meters.
Not looking for a nerf here. More like an explanation. I'll even take a bad one which is made up on the spot.

Okay, there's my "made up on the spot explanation" done. Thanks.
Are you running advanced or elite?
I ask because I have encountered something similar on advanced. I come across one Heavy Artillery Vehicle (HAV) and take it down with some work then I come across another one in the SAME patrol and suddenly I cant scratch its hull. My damage scroll reads, get this, a WHOPPING 25-55 per attack.
I am no DPS machine but even I know this is FUBAR.
I have a feeling theres a tweak or bug that is affecting these HAVs to sometimes either spawn at a much higher difficulty level than you have set or somehow nerfs your attacks. Either way it needs to be fixed.
I dont mind a challenge, but when it is the equivalent of spitting on a Sherman Tank AGAINST THE WIND, somethings seriously broken.
Actually it's called a "bug."
I had to keep doing guerrilla runs to kill him as his health kept resetting upon my unfortunate demise.
Just like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zED_HZ9XzSg
There is no challenge in fighting an enemy that has no chance in destroying you. Less HP with more fire power, more powers, and some tactics would have actually made for a challenge instead of simple boredom waiting for the ship to die.

Correction, it's what Cryptic mistakenly thought was challenging, when in reality it's just boring. A challenge is when you have to take on a ship with equal weaponry and an equal ability to kill you, not just upping the HP/SP of ships that are more gimped than a no limbed tennis player.
"You don't have to do something again and again and again repetitive that doesn't have much challange, that's just a general good gameplay thing."
Seems like that's what game companies assume -- needlessly difficult, boring, and repetitive somehow equates to an entertaining challenge. A simple update the AI would be enough. And it wouldn't have to be drastic--they would just have to make the enemies do DIFFERENT things. Right now they're all basically the same. Even different species do the same tactics. It's pathetic how NOT on our toes this game keeps us.
If you have a carrier, then use it. When I first ran DR, I tried with my Mogai also....and was proper owned every time I went to challenge it. I took my carrier, had no problems at all.
WHat I find is, the Artillery ship is geared to destroy a ship, one at a time, so if you can send in many ships, like the Scorpion fighters, the Photonic fleet, or even the Nimbus Pirates, you will soon find them firing very erratically.
Those behind the monitors need to really think first before pushing out 900K hulls on us though. Takes so much system and weapons power to take those down with extra gear.
Time will only tell!
I'd like to think it's a bug, but I suspected it isn't.
As you pointed out, the 1st Artillery ship is less tough and can be dispatched without an excessive amount of time. Then you meet up with the second one, and well, you better have packed a lunch because you're going to be there all day.
I commented on this in another thread where a guy was having the same problem. All everyone talked about was tactics, or which ship you should use, what BOFF layout you should have etc. Then folks started saying how lame the guy's setup was - the typical elite perspective.
DR hype said we could play this stuff with our existing gear/ships. They should make sure we can, and without having to spending the better part of an hour on 1 stinking ship.
