Server Instability

What is the point in playing STO, when the server is so unstable? All you have done so far is put a red thing up stating that the server is experiencing problems. And then keep the servers up. Cryptic do you just not care? I really want to play STO, but I refuse to, because of the server instability. Either fix it and actually care about your customer base. Or just keep doing nothing about it and watch your customer base just stop playing altogether. It's just that simple.

Literacy is your friend. Please find the sticky. And other related threads. IT'S RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU. Not talking astrophysics here. Thanx.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.

The best explanation I can offer is this.

Its the network, as in the whole network.

When STO has these unspecified network issues I generally find through the Pathping diagnostic that the connection fails at a certain point between my ISP and Cryptic's (Cogent), ie. at AT&T. There's a cat-fight in progress between Cogent and AT&T about who gets to pay for upgrading network capacity, and neither side apparently wants to blink despite the increasing need for something to be done about it.

While I have absolutely no expertise to say why STO might be more susceptible than other services, the routine failure at the AT&T to Cogent crossover is what I suspect is hammering this game's networking.

Geez, that would make sense...the dropouts are just terrible.

Yes, and this i nothing new.... it's not even really confined to conflict with AT&T either.... Cogent is in conflict over this very issue with literally EVERY other peering company in the US. They basically flood connections with data, and then refuse to take on but a trickle themselves and expect other to pay for it. In fact this Cogent issue is actually the source of the reason Netflix has either charged ISP's for establishing direct connects to their network, or taken on fees for having ISP interconnects installed in their system. I don't see this issue going away until something drastic can be done to Cogent to either remove them or get them in line.
