Bridge Officer Captain?

doomfrostdoomfrost Member Posts: 25 Arc User
Everyone is moving up on the ladder, but unfortunately bridge officers remain the same rank. It would be nice to promote at least one of them to Captain. It doesn't have to come with anything special, save unlocking the additional pip in character customization. It just would be nice to have at least one captain on my ship to boss around than bossing around a bunch of commanders. :P

The whole concept of having 12-14 commanders on your bridge is stupid to begin with. You should be limited in how many of each rank you have and just raise their seniority level or their expertise or whatever.

I feel really sorry for my first officer at times. We've been serving together since I was a lieutenant, she being consistently one rank below me up until I hit rear admiral, lower half. I've then gone though upper half, vice admiral, full admiral and now fleet admiral and she's still stuck at commander.

I mean really, we're fleet admirals and we still can't have a single captain on our ship? Kirk had at least two and he was lower ranked than us. (I think, I may be remembering wrong)

They will probably update that as a possible Specialization; maybe name it "Fleet Command", and allow only Very Rare Boffs to upgrade to Captain and fly a ship you have in reserve alongside you (though you would need to outfit it). Special abilities would mainly be ordering and buffing your "mini-Fleet". And at maxed Specialization; you can have up to 3 other ships tagging along during missions.

Aside from that, I can't think up of another reason why they couldn't at least upgrade them to be Captains, if only so you could play Admiral commanding a Captain to do things on the "captain's" ship.

Mind you, Kirk mutinied, got court-martialed, was demoted and still came out smelling of roses, hell they even gave him a new ship. :P

Plus he went from ensign to captain in 1 hour of active service. Pfft golden boy

I re-rolled my main and did some semi-RP with him where I would do Logs for missions, promotions, etc. Along the way, I took the BOFFs that I got from the Tutorial (which I saved the characters and then got Purple versions) and as I promoted them, I gave them a few back stories.

T'Vrell got "promoted" to Commander the same way Troi did in TNG. Took the bridge Officers Exam. She "enjoyed" Command so much (yes I still kept her as a Vulcan which is why "enjoyed" was in quotes) that the wanted to command her own ship. I had a Vulcan female on another account that I just leveled up and didn't do anything with so I saved her appearance and loaded it onto that character. Bought a Rename token and that Vulcan Female Science officer became "Captain" T'Vrell. Once she was "Transferred" to her new command, I discharged the BOFF.

Some thing (with different stories) with Kolez, Zarva, etc. With Elisa Flores, I took a page from the end of Nemesis and did the "captains" Picard and Riker thing,

For me, this was a fun way of still "keeping the BOFFs" stories without actually keeping the BOFFs on my ship (to make way for Romulan Republic, Breen, Reman, etc BOFFs).

This is really part of a much bigger problem in linking our level with our rank. It's crazy that we out rank canon characters who have been in Starfleet since before our Admirals were born. We leap through the ranks so fast even JJ Kirk looks like he's dragging his heels.

I do something similar as you did with T'Vrell. When I want to start a new character I usually use one of my existing commanders. The difference is that I don't get rid of my bridge officer on the previous character. I could use the excuse that the character feels loyalty for my first captain and switches back and forth between assignments, but the real reason is because I am just too lazy to come up with another commander. In fact one of my characters is serving as a bridge officer on two of my other characters.

Harry Kim must secretly hate us all. He's been in Starfleet for decades and is still a Captain, whereas most of us where promoted to Admiral in a matter of weeks.

I like to think that our promotions were on the spot promotions for valor and going above and beyond. We prevented a rogue klingon from using the planet eater as a weapon, saved DS9 several times, found a home world for Romulans, was instrumental in forming the alliance, found the spheres, saved ESD and Admiral Quinn, saved Kronos....

All the things we've done garnered us on the spot promotions.
    Your pain runs deep.
Let us explore it... together. Each man hides a secret pain. It must be exposed and reckoned with. It must be dragged from the darkness and forced into the light. Share your pain. Share your pain with me... and gain strength from the sharing.

I've kept logs of my Boffs as I climbed the ranks as well. Only two have made it to Captain and that was only because I discharged them to make room for special Boffs.

The dream of having our own fleet to command and having Captain ranked boffs is an old one. We might see it some day.

My main i have noted as a Fleet Admiral.

my caitian is a Vice Admiral

the rest are Captains in spite of what text and my lvl says.

and each of those captains serves in my mains fleet.

That would be interesting. I've always wanted bridge officers in space during non-S.T.F. PvE missions. Of course the problem with that is it's no small undertaking, the entirety of those space missions are balanced with one player in mind and would probably have to be changed to account for extra team members.

I am in the same position with my Caitian sci. She's the first officer and good friend of my main and in my canon she got a provisional command in the (back then) new romulus task force due to her expertise in xenobiology and advanced sensor systems. Though she primarily serves as a first officer still, only occasionally taking command of the other ship. Though I am in the process of granting her a permanent command and promoting my main's second officer to first officer and have that caitian boff replaced with a another costume/name/backstory of a lower rank. Basically my main crew and thus "family" I had since I started playing STO is going to change. And it might sound cheesy, but that's a pretty big step and I have to take it slow... XD
