In regards to reliability, I can't comment on the Mac experience of others, but my Mac is not only blisteringly fast but I've never owned a PC that's even approached the reliability of my Mac.
You do realize Macs are PCs right?
What you're talking about is the OS and others are talking about is you paying more for the same hardware. Partially why Cryptic is slow updating the Mac is probably because Apple has no good all-in-one API like MS does. (DirectX)
They don't owe Mac users anything and you should be happy you have something at all. I still have to use Wine to run STO in Linux.

I didn't 'make' Cryptic provide a Mac client. They made the commitment to creating a Mac client all on their own. Now, Cryptic can pull the Mac client if they want to but they had better know that they'll lose a lot of players in the process. I for one will walk without looking back if they do, especially with Elite: Dangerous coming soon. Based on the posts that have been circulating around the forums since this Mac debacle I suspect that I won't be the only one.
I would hazard a guess that there's a larger percentage of Mac players than most people would assume. My reasoning? Because Cryptic would NEVER have made a Mac client unless they knew it would be profitable. Let's face it, unless it brings in the dollars their PWE overlords would never let it happen.
Of course all we can do is guess. But numbers and %s are not always the story. A small % of a large # is enough ppl to justify a product. 1% of the population of the world is a lot of customers, for example. I was exaggerating a bit about the % above for fun, but mac users are surely less than 10% of the total players. Which, again, is obviously enough customers to justify making a client. Could also be that they know that mac ppl, willing to spend more on hardware, have an open wallet to be tapped :P
I agree with you. They decided to make the client, they should support it. But they can't pause the game while the fix is being made. Sometimes, there just is no good answer. Flags to enable the event based on client type might be possible but might not be worth the trouble.... etc....

Much the same as they do not 'make' you play their game.
Did you purchase this Mac software from Cryptic?
If not there is no binding 'commitment' much the same as every other free software.
Stating otherwise is just living in pretend land.
Love how people denigrate Macs without being active Apple users. Get a better paycheck I'd say for such folks.
I've been a Windows user for more than ten years, before switching to Mac, a choice I don't regret. Guess what, I still use Windows if the situation requires it. They have their pros and cons, and to me Mac does the job better.
Last thing some of you need is making yourself ridiculous in a computer war.

Agreed. But there is no need to be an active user. Look at total # of games available on platform not including using a VM to run them. Look at price of hardware for performance point. See who wins. You are talking to gamers, and windows desktops still win the gamer "war" for cost benefit and games offered. No matter how good your paycheck is, you get more games and speed for your $$ using a tweaked gamer win system. Take the savings and buy another game or some zen instead of trying to put a square peg in a round hole and call it a fit.
Macs have been pretty good since OSX, and I have no hatred but I dont want one for my home gaming rig. As soon as you fire up WINE you lost the war, you just converted your mac in to a third rate windows PC. Same goes for hobby-os, using VMs or dual boots to windows is not convincing me to run out and set up a FOTM "linux" machine.
The thing to realise is I'm not fighting a war, I use my computer for work. In its work capacity it outperforms pretty much any other computer out there in speed and, most importantly, reliability.
Gaming is not really something I set out to do on my Mac. The only games I have on my Mac are STO (how long for, I'm not sure now) and Elder Scrolls Online (which I run with EVERY graphics setting at max). Later this year/early next year I will also be playing Elite: Dangerous on Mac as it's there will be a dedicated Mac version, not a wrappered version like STO. Any other gaming? I go to one of my consoles.
