Space zoom level - keep it as I set it

On ground it seems this works just fine. The level of zoom in/out stays the same every time I go to ground.
In space it appears that every map change or log in resets my zoom level. Most noticeable on big ships like warbirds where the ship is taking up so much of my screen I can't see anything else. I realize it only takes a few seconds to zoom out but I just get annoyed having to reset it over and over.
Maybe there is a setting I am overlooking.
Edit: After paying a bit more attention this is not happening when traveling through sector space maps, only on login or ground to space map changes. I must go from ground to space a lot because it seemed like this was happening all the time.

I almost wish I had an invisible ship so I don't have to keep zooming out everytime I enter a new sector.
