Well, that's it for me.

I've been playing for a little over two years now. I've gotten all the way through t5 fleet content. I made it into DPS30k before the expansion. But I've grown tired of this game. I've spent probably a couple hundred dollars on this game, but I'm not giving Perfect World another cent, or trading any more dil or EC for items originally purchased with Zen. Here's what's driving me away:

Story. Starfleet deciding it's just fine that the Kobali are using living Vaadwaur to procreate? Gene Roddenberry would be appalled, no matter how many Talaxians the Vaadwaur have murdered. The whole point of Star Trek is that no, just because they're doing bad things to you doesn't mean you're allowed to do bad things to them. All that connects this game to Star Trek at this point is what the ships are shaped like and a few expensive voice actors. The expansion would have been better if you used the actor's wages to actually develop some content instead of leaving 50-60 an intolerable grindfest BUT HEY WE GOT HARRY KIM and not to mention a really awful, unrecognizable model of Robert Picardo's face.

Game mechanics. How can there be so much stuff persistently broken in a game where the best course of action is to figure out how to press one button over and over again? Any time things are imbalanced and broken in this game, the devs just slap wallpaper over it. Don't think we haven't noticed.

Software design. I couldn't get through the first mission of the new expansion on the Mac client without it crashing. I tried three times. Now, I dual-boot and get better gaming performance out of Windows as a rule, but I liked the Mac client as a convenience since it meant I didn't have to reboot every time I wanted to play a game.

Price creep. There's no reason a t6 ship should cost more than a t5 ship. T6 is the new endgame content. If you want anybody with t5 ships to go out and buy the t6, at the very most the t6 should cost the same.

Since there aren't really any space-based MMOs that are doing any better (other than the occasional epic stories we read about EVE) I've started playing Rift. For an F2P game, that one is surprisingly balanced and well-thought out, and its f2p system isn't a total price-gouging joke. It actually has microtransactions, rather than things where you buy a pack of credits and here now spend the whole thing on a ship. You can get all the way through endgame content without spending anything, or being dependent on someone else having spent something. Maybe it's because Rift is so obviously modeled after the most successful paid MMO in history? If an MMO is going to try to leech $15 a month out of its players, you might as well just play WoW, but Rift isn't doing that. And they're coming out with content all the time.

Rift may not be the IP or gameplay for everyone, but it is one of the most polished and feature rich MMOs out there. Have fun!

Starfleet being 'just fine' with that is their job; it's not their place to interfere or tell the Kobali what to do/how to do things, regardless of their personal feelings. And YMMV on Robert Picardo's face being unrecognizable (I think it's a fairly dead ringer really)

And the T6 ships being at most the same price as T5? Them being more expensive was the expected reaction, even for those who complained about them costing 3k Zen, because that's just how it works

Now, I'll leave others to say the usual lines regarding 'I'm done' posts

T6 ships should have been sold at current T5 ship prices and all t5 ships should be sold at half their original price since launch of DR.

Did you finish the storyline? Have you seen the VOY episode with the Kobali?
They are NOT using living Vaadwaur.
While disturbed by the Kobali method of procreation, Starfleet still has to consider the Prime Directive. It IS the way the Kobali have to procreate. They use dead bodies. Janeway had to tackle this issue (VOY episode 'Ashes to Ashes') That episode is way Harry Kim is so passionate about the Kobali and their ways.

Have to agree with Trek21 on Picardo.. I think its pretty good too

It was strongly implied in the early part of the campaign that they were using the Vaadwaur in stasis in the Kobali temple to procreate. Stasis isn't dead, but that's the point where Starfleet decided in the mission texts that it was just fine.

It was stated that they used the ones in failed stasis tubes who died in stasis.

They can't use the living. They have to use the dead.
I don't want to spoil anything for you in case you decide to play through the story. You should watch the Voyager Episode. :D

if you want to read a summary...

Yes, they're using the ones in stasis - but only the failed ones, who died (their entire process is reanimating the dead; it can't be used on the living)

But even if it was living, my point still stands that Starfleet can't tell the Kobali that their way of life is wrong, because they can't interfere or dictate such things on other races (just like Cap Picard refused to do so in 'Symbosis', even though Crusher objected). Personal feelings is one thing, but professional responsibilities is another
