With respect to the rate at which skill points are gained:
I could be comfortable with the current rate.
Could.
But only(!) if specialization points were gained account-wide. Reputations were bad enough, and at least that can be managed even with half a dozen alts. I have no intention of leaving my alts behind, but I have no intention of leveling up my 5 lvl-50 (well, one of them is 60 by now, the other has slowly worked her way to 51 doing rep stuff) characters 300 (bolded, underlined and italicized for emphasis) times.
Plus another 100 or so times for the Reman I made shortly before deciding that my most logical course of action is to not play at all. At least the first 40 of those would be relatively easy...
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
However before I see the concrete changes, there's not much else to say. (Looks like adventure and battlezones are gonna be the winners, though.)

I don't know what to make of this. On the one hand it's good that their looking at fine tuning elements of the game after so many big changes.
On the other hand I'm worried about Cryptic being in control. First person I talk to talks of nerfs to x,y,z like scimitars as someone did 5-6 figure dps build. I ask what causes this; the ship or the mechanics the player has used like aux2bat? This may be a generic, abstract example but it illustrates a point. Cryptic see's a problem and hits it on the head with a giagntic nerf hammer when really that's not the problem it's something that players will just move elsewhere with the same broken mechanics. In the case of the scimitair it's already a low turning squishy machine you really want to nerf that some more?
I don't even need to use this abstract example to prove a point I'll let Cryptic do it for me; Japori/Tau Dewa anyone? I'll thank them for the public address and the aim but it's implementation troubles me.
I agree with the above poster Cryptic is showing signs that they're listening and doing something about it but I'll wait to see how they handle it before giving them a pat on the back.
I wish I could give this the benefit of the doubt.. but past actions speak louder than words.. and this reads like most previous placation statements that cover for something that's about to get a serious reduction..
I am curious what the 'overly rewarding' sources are that will be cut, and clarification about exactly is going to be happening to 'elite marks'.
I'm inclined to interpret that reputation items like BNPs, Implants, Ancient Power Cells, etc. are about to become a lot more scarce..

Thankyou for the update Mr Grey. I hope a rigorus look at the XP/Skill system is intitiated as I know it has caused considerable discussion in our fleet, mainly on the grind of 50 to 60. Look onforward to future updates.
A new face? Welcome to the jungle; it gets worse here every day...
OK, sorry for the Guns n Roses moment.
In all seriousness it is a bit heartening to see a new or unfamiliar face posting in here and that you are considering the issue and communicating intent to do something about it.
Addressing drop rates and dilithium rates is helpful, at least--I wonder if perhaps you or someone else has read my posts on the game economics. In a way even the sudden profusion of good spammers is a warning about how tight the commodities and rewards have really become (artificially-tightened supply + extreme regulation = explosion of black market, even IRL). I hope you found that to be as alarming of a sign as I did from a business perspective.
However, I do think there are two other pieces from a game economics standpoint (I am not touching the communications and QA pieces for the most part) that will need to be addressed in conjunction, in order for this increase to have your desired effect.
1) The refining cap. Even with rewards being increased, bear in mind that as long as player access to those rewards remains limited in accordance with a very outmoded model of dilithium requirements that dates back to the introduction of F2P when I joined. The Dil mine offers a little help to players fortunate enough to belong to a fleet with T3 mines, but allowing players to refine more in one go should IMO be given stronger consideration.
2) Attainability of rewards. Seeing drop tables and win rewards increased is good but if things are either so severely timegated or locked behind content that is too out-of-whack with a normal player's capabilities to have any shot of attaining those rewards would undermine the intended result. This means addressing NPC scaling and the economics of the crafting and upgrade systems simultaneously, and not continually destroying players' existing assets to attempt to *force* spending, in order to avoid losing the intended benefits. A reward offered but unattainable might as well not exist and the bleeding will not stop.
Again, I do thank you for coming in here to speak with us--I just hope you will take back with you some serious consideration towards making this part of a *comprehensive* realignment or this risks failing to accomplish the objective.

I'd say if you had been in any real combat situations you wouldn't like the resemblance very much.
Agreed. I served behind a desk for 4 years. I did complete basic training though. Had I stayed in longer I would have ended up in Iraq or Korea, but I'd had enough.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
Well, reducing a nerf by half is ... nice... I guess.
Be aware that you need to do more than double the output of advanced (and again for elite) queues if you want people playing them though, as we're not completely stupid and have owned clocks or other methods of timekeeping since we were children. We know when things take 10x as long to complete for barely 2x the payout that something somewhere may not be worth it.
We also need to point out, however, that Mac users still can't play, kinetic output is in the sewers BELOW the bowling alley's gutter, and the tray bugs and Starfleet Academy Ground no-beamout are all still stuck in place.
"We are also examining the drop rates of Very Rare Research & Development Materials, Skill Points, Officer Skill Points, Starship Mastery Skill Points and Elite Reputation Marks (i.e. Borg Neural Processors, Voth Cybernetic Implants, etc.) among other items."
I know how to read, even if the english is not my prime lenguage, but still I manage to understend this: "We are also examining the drop rates of Very Rare Research & Development Materials, Skill Points"
Please make it so Ancient Power Cells can be rewarded in Normal ques, even if it's 1 unit and reward in the ground zone.
Should make all reputation needed trinkets drop in normal now that you've changed Advanced.
How come Romulan / Nukara rep. doesn't need any trinket of something?
You got to do something about the non-played PvE ques (Big Dig, Gorn, Mine Trap, Breaking the Planet).
Those are my favorites, but I can never seem to join them because there are Zero qued and Zero playing, with a wait time of --- . Let us run with a smaller team, scale down everything in there to meet a 1 player = x NPC, or something.
Make colony spawn different NPCs to battle and make the spawn locations random along with the diplomats too.
Make Fed. Fleet Assault (FFA) spawn more then the Tholians or Borg when players are armed to the teeth.
(just remove Borg from FFA all together) *If I wanted to fight them I'd que up a Borg PvE.
Make a PvE mission that is a random space battle, or ground mission, similar to a Patrol mission but queable so you can play with a PUG and get PvE rewards.
MAKE CHOICE MARKS TRULY CHOICE MARKS for gods sake!
Bring back the Elachi gate PvE, & Mirror Uni. Invasion. (the one with the Fed SB in the middle) permanently with appropriate rewards.
And when those PvEs are highlighted for a weekend or whatever, edit the rewards for a highlighted mission
I'm surprised to read that battle-zones will get an increase of 50% rewards
With some zone hopping I am able to pull 25k dil. ore in 1 hour.
Of course it's dil. ore and I can't to squat with that, so whatever.
.....
Still pushing for dil. ore to be used for all in game items, and refined only for use in the dil. exchange for ZEN... of course if you did do that, you'd just multiply all dil. needed by 150.
Thank the Great Bird of the Galaxy for this post right here! You have no idea how much this information means to me, Mr.Gray. You just made my day.
I'm glad the devs. are communicating more often with us lately, but I'm even more happy about the info about these adjustments and increase in rewards. Many players had serious complaints on this topic and it was becomming troublesome for the health of the game, which worries me since I do enjoy STO and I'd like to continue doing so.
Finally havng info that you've taken notice of the complaints and will be doing something about it gives me hope that the situation will indeed be improved and the players can go back to playing and enjoying the game.
Crazy thought...could we opt out of dilithium ore rewards in favor of more skill points? I have more than enough ore at this point. I remember seeing in one of the Livestreams there was a tickable box for skill points or ore in Borg Disconnected at one point. I was looking forward to that option, maybe bring that back, like how we pick our marks?
Actually, it is my understanding that that was a bug, and that you were intended to receive both the XP and the dilithium.

Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
It has been commented recently that Cryptic does not listen to its players. Well, it appears they are listening.
But, ARE THEY? No. There is such a massive disconnect with the players (what little remain). They aren't listening. They're inside a sound-proof booth with no windows, and are only "aware" of the outrage because they have their noses pressed into this "metrics machine" they concocted which pores over the raw server logs to mine certain bits of totally subjective and biased info. They make further totally subjective and biased (and often wrong) conclussions based on this datamining, and pretend they are "listening" to the players.
This is not new. They have been doing this for a while. They've ramped it up to the extreme now.
There's such a disconnect they think the reason PvE queues are empty is because they don't reward enough MARKS.
You tell *me* how that indicates in any way, shape, or form, that they're listening? And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
I would rather get starship traits as account-wide unlocks, it is very annoying to level multiple ships, not to mention the lack of choices for some factions. But I guess we'll probably see lockbox traits like the cross-faction consoles they had....
Well, I only leveled two ships - my free Dyson Destroyer and a Voth Palisade my younger brother gave me - so I don't really know enough to say for certain. Besides, compared to 60 specialization points, starship mastery (especially when there's only so many ships you can get the mastery traits on) is a drop in the water.
... 126 seconds. I'm getting better at dodging this thing, aren't I...
70. Nope, guess I'm just luckier.
Drat, so close - only 17!

The recent Delta Rising expansion released for Star Trek Online included a large number of updates to existing features throughout the game. The focus of many of these updates has been to add new challenges for players to experience and to update rewards to reflect these difficulty changes. Unfortunately, our first attempts at setting rewards values have not been universally successful. Accordingly, we will be working towards bringing rewards in line with where we, and players, think they should be.
An important part of playing any piece of content in Star Trek Online is that players feel appropriately rewarded for the time and effort they put forth completing that content. With all the changes made to the PvE queues (new difficulties, new mission objectives, etc.) many of them now take significantly longer than they used to before the release of Delta Rising. This means that the number of reputation marks players are getting are no longer adequate for their time investment. Accordingly, we will be increasing mark rewards on all queues that are currently under-rewarding. There are also a small number of queues that are significantly over-rewarding which will have their rewards reduced.
PvE queues are not the only pieces of content that will have their rewards adjusted. With the introduction of the Research & Development and Item Upgrading systems, there is an increased need for dilithium. To accommodate this need, we will be increasing dilithium rewards in several key locations throughout the game. PvE Queues will get a small increase to their current dilithium rewards, while Adventure and Battle Zones will see their dilithium rewards increased by 50%.
We are also examining the drop rates of Very Rare Research & Development Materials, Skill Points, Officer Skill Points, Starship Mastery Skill Points and Elite Reputation Marks (i.e. Borg Neural Processors, Voth Cybernetic Implants, etc.) among other items.
There will be many changes coming in the next several weeks that are aimed at updating the rewards throughout the game in most places increasing the rewards to meet the new demands players have from taking part in brand new systems. We will continue to communicate with the players about all these updates as they occur.

The highlighted line above (my edit) seems to suggest that the developers a) didn't know about the changes, b) did not know what effect the changes would have, or c) were forced into making the changes. This leaves only two possibilities: they're either lying or incompetent.
sry to be so blunt but how stupid do you guys at cryptic think we are?
I mean WHAT THE HECK? you increase the dil rewards of battlezones by 50%? lol
you mean the battlezones that are still lvl 50?
the battlezones that already gave much more dil per time than any other contant in the game? (although not yet 17 times more)
the same battlezones that are easier now with us all being lvl 60 and all
the same battlezones that are just not really played anymore?
while the queues get only a tiny little bit increase?
the queues also not really being played right now?
the queues that actually DID see a heavy increase in hp (or difficulty as you put it)?
the queues that now take like 3-4 times longer than before and reward like half of what was before? because everyone is comparing old elite new advanced ofc because even that is much more difficult than elite before?
so the same queues that now actually are much less effective in dil per time value like 1/8th or something get only a small increase while the bzs that are actually the same if not easier get a good 50% boost?
do you really i mean *really* *seriously* believe anyone believes this to be a genuine sign for you to recognize the problem? dont you think its kind of obvious that this is just meant as a bones thrown at us to distract us or something?
sry but anybody that actually had a look at the numbers with the intention of improving the dil/time nerf of the queues with DR cannot possibly come to the conclusion that battlezones need a definite boost to dil
just saying I did a couple of rexes today cause I needed some dyson marks, and within maybe an hour I got more marks and dil and implants out of it than with say 3h of queuing, where btw i have to deal with cds where as the battlezones just keep restarting with only a small delay that can easily avoided by switching instances?
The recent Delta Rising expansion released for Star Trek Online included a large number of Money grabs to ensure existing features throughout the game are monetized. (to the extent we can get away with).
OMG you just hit the nail on the head!, i actually loged-in on the forum to congrats you about your statement, really i feel happy i'm not alone seeing this trend that they do money grabs, usually the fans "trekies" shoot me down cus i'm talking down there "TREK GODS" but really they play this game with closed eye's. anyways you made me smile and login. Thanks.
This game went from bad 2 worse the day perfect world bought STO, to start of this game is made on the wrong game engine, space scales are off, weapon models scale are off, no 360° movement in space, ... then came PW and lockedboxes came to the game, with great stuff in them "if you are lucky" so basicly they added "Gambling" to the game "Yeaaaa" never thought i'd see the day wen gambling is ok in any form what so ever, again "the fans" loved it and kept trowing money at there screens for some pixel goodies with a low chance of getting! don't get me wrong here i know they have to earn money but there plenty of other ways to do that then the box'es. anyways i just wished...
They fixed the scale problems in this game, like phasers "beams" that are "not" 1/4 the size of the ship there fired from, i know its a game but please its not cool to see the phaser at the bottom of the ship wen its fired from the top part, that big are some beams. and i'v heard the reasons its that scale cus you otherwise would not see it nonsense bla bla, that just proves that this game is made on the wrong tech.
oh goodie i'v raged again ^^ and i'll probably get a ton of whispers again of all the "fans" that feel like i insulted there god again.

Cryptic, if you do add them to Normal queues at the very least (and double them for Advanced, and triple them for Elite if you want) I will redact all my statements regarding how you don't care about casuals and undergeared, as well as not being Alt-friendly.
This is the best news we had since a loooong time. Thank you for communicating, and listening to us. I hope the next expansion will be closer to LoR in quality (server outage not withstanding), than DR.
Now, can we have the 300s post timer removed from the forum ? Thank you !

With all due respect, since we are capped at 8k refined dil per day, you can increase the dil reward as much as you want, we will still be capped at 8K/day.
BZ do not need a dil boost. Seriously. We can reach the cap really fast, even when we are not playing tag the dino.

sry but anybody that actually had a look at the numbers with the intention of improving the dil/time nerf of the queues with DR cannot possibly come to the conclusion that battlezones need a definite boost to dil
just saying I did a couple of rexes today cause I needed some dyson marks, and within maybe an hour I got more marks and dil and implants out of it than with say 3h of queuing, where btw i have to deal with cds where as the battlezones just keep restarting with only a small delay that can easily avoided by switching instances?
so again *really*?
*seriously*?
Lol, DR will now stand for Dinosaur Rodeo
It already has too many names that will live on longer than this game will.
Doesn't Run (nod to the Mac players)
Dilithium Rising
Demanding Revenue
Declining Rewards
Dollar Ripoff
And probably many more.
They fixed the scale problems in this game, like phasers "beams" that are "not" 1/4 the size of the ship there fired from, i know its a game but please its not cool to see the phaser at the bottom of the ship wen its fired from the top part, that big are some beams. and i'v heard the reasons its that scale cus you otherwise would not see it nonsense bla bla, that just proves that this game is made on the wrong tech.
oh goodie i'v raged again ^^ and i'll probably get a ton of whispers again of all the "fans" that feel like i insulted there god again.
will we be comming out HIGHER or LOWER than before the last DIL nerv

They're admitting their error, as many suspected they would eventually do. Sarcasm doesn't help.
Cryptic, if you do add them to Normal queues at the very least (and double them for Advanced, and triple them for Elite if you want) I will redact all my statements regarding how you don't care about casuals and undergeared, as well as not being Alt-friendly.
Now, can we have the 300s post timer removed from the forum ? Thank you !
Anyway, time to find another signature
With all due respect, since we are capped at 8k refined dil per day, you can increase the dil reward as much as you want, we will still be capped at 8K/day.
BZ do not need a dil boost. Seriously. We can reach the cap really fast, even when we are not playing tag the dino.
