justed tested this. Added some advanced que research mat boxes at uber high prices to see what happens when the sale expires ...and lo and behold expired items are not reverting back to my inventory? is this deliberate or another BUG? Has this happened to anyone else ? thanks in advance.

LOL so i had opened the mail notifications up in space ya know that icon on the top right for mail... it was glowing so i clicked it. Opened it up to get the notification that my items have expired and closed it.... nothing dropped to inventory.
I beam back down to surface (may i add this is extra difficult for me to do since my power tray reshuffles when i beam back up to ship:-) ) and go to a mail box to see mail and lo and behold nothing drops into inventory lolol

Did you click "take items?"

you have to actually click the 'take item' I know this is a massive physical and mental strain upon a player but its fairly common in all mmorpg, and its worked that way in STO for a couple years.
We always got expired exchange sales sent back via mail, and the only "change" to mails was made back in 2013 when the in game mail feature crashed because it had finally become overloaded from players using it to store hundreds of items indefinitely.
In order to fix things the devs put a limit on the number of mails that could have attachments to 20.
Not exactly, it didn't crash because people were mailing themselves hundreds of items- it crashed when the Devs tried to 'fix' it to keep people from mailing themselves hundreds of items. It worked fine for years but as soon as they tinker with it the system collapsed- THEN they blamed it on the players for using the system as designed. It wasn't our fault they built it that way, but it suddenly became an 'exploit' because nobody was buying extra bank slots.

Absolute genius suggestion!! i did that nothing fell to inventory however lol ... sorry i cant stop loling at the bugs this game seems to have!!
I think i may have found a workaround to this. If you get mail notification never open in space. Beam down to surface and open from terminal. And like genius suggestion in the quote above make sure you click take items. Please let me know if this works thanks in advance. I have posted some items at the exchange at exorbitant prices to make sure I get the expired notice and re-test to see if it works. Will post here again if it does. Very likely im facing a bug that seems to be specific to the current character im using however... so will post in bug section of this forum if thats the case.
Oh and form earlier experience Do not delete mail in space ... on expired item notifications .... you will loose the mail as well as the item it is bearing..... transporter technology really does not work in this regard.
The exchange has worked as it is right now for a couple YEARS now. These are not new changes.
It worked almost exactly the same as it does now for years now... they have only made a few small changes the last few years. These are the only major changes i can think of the last 2-3 years. 1) it mails stuff back to the toon that listed it instead of being an account wide email... 2) it subtracts your max number of Exchange sale slots. So if you have 3 items returned in your mail instead of being able to list 40 you can now only list 37. (the idea being to keep you from filling your mail with expired exchange sales.)
Again though been 2 years now.... this isn't some new change.
As for the only major change to the system when they added the subtraction from your max exchange slots when you mail have returned items sitting in your mail. Yes some people claimed they lost stuff... I myself had some stuff sitting in there and I didn't loose anything that I know of. (granted I didn't try to store over 9000 items in my mail)... the people that did loose over 9000 items cause they where using there mail as bank space. I gotta say really hard to feel sorry for them.... but man that was like 3 years ago.
Bottom line don't blind delete your mail when your listing things on the exchange... or better yet don't leave your stuff on the exchange for a week. if it hasn't sold in 2-3 days best take it down and relist it at a proper price. lol (exchange isn't bank space either.)
EDIT in your defense a bit though... there was a time when deleting one of the exchange return mails wasn't possible... if you hadn't claimed the items it would remail it to you. Not sure when they broke that but that was a feature for at least a while. (I guess now it also should be common sense to add a bit of code that would grey out the Delete button if the Take items button was lit... that would likely solve the issue for ever more for there CS folks)

Deleting mail without claiming items from it will delete the items? *gasp* No! Color me shocked!
Sarcasm aside, there's a mail ship in Battle Group Omega so you don't have to beam down to reclaim items and get your power tray scrambled.

Funny story.. I had a bunch of consumables stored in the mail when that change happened because them account bank slots were pricey. Bunch of my mail just up and vanished into thin air. 10 months later I was suddenly deluged by dozens of mail messages. It was like the Dominion fleet from Second Wave emerging from a temporal vortex to barf all of my consumables (mostly moba fruits and junk) back at me.
Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.
That argument might have been believable if it "crashed" within 6 months of when they started selling extra bank slots, not years later. But conspiracy theories are always amusing.
You're forgetting when it started crashing- it was within hours of the first 'fix' to the system. And NO- it hasn't been a couple of years since they 'fixxed' it, it's been about 14 months.
Deleting mail without claiming items from it will delete the items? *gasp* No! Color me shocked!
Actually it's a fair enough point; I think what the OP has in mind is that under some circumstances the "expired sale" messages don't actually show that there IS an item attached, but deleting them will still delete the item. I thought they'd fixed that, though.

Hmm i have to check to see whether this is what happened. Need to wait for some expired stuff to come my way again.
LOL pretty good story, man. Really had me laughing about all the bugs and your lost items. Rofl, good stuff. I wonder if you'll get them back ever probably not lol but still funny to think about.
Love your signature ;-) rofl => umm who are you ? lol
I dont really care for the TRIBBLE i put up that i have lost though, just need to run a few more stfs . However was thinking of putting up a lobi goody ... now I dare not till i sort this issue out.
Funny how your problem with reading comprehension only shows up when you think you are losing an argument.
I never said it was a couple of years since they fixed the mail feature. I said your conspiracy theory might be believable if the mail feature "broke" within the first 6 months of when Cryptic first started selling additional bank slots for zen.
The mail didn't crash until the second quarter of 2013. Long, long after bank slots were being sold on the cstore.
It's not my reading comprehension, but my forum editing skills that are questionable. The 'couple of years' comment was meant for a different poster in this thread. And No, I didn't mean they killed (fixxed) the mail because they wanted to sell a new item called 'more bank slots', my meaning was that they killed the mail because they weren't selling enough additional bank slots.
But by all means go on about conspiracies where there isn't one. I forgive you.
Isn't it kinda-sorta funny that folks can get into a bit of a disagreement in a thread that was started by a clueless nitwit.
The "expired items" from Exchange sales, haven't been Automatically Returned to ones inventory for well over two years now.
Add to that, the fact that he still didn't get the gist of what folks are telling him when he suddenly decided to go off on another tangent with nabreeki.
<shakes head>
Lord & Sop... your 'reading comprehension' skills are at a Masters Degree Level compared to the OP.

OP, I'm curious if you're the only one with the problem ...
Thanks for your concern.
I sorted it out thanks to some of the input in this post. Some of my expired sales on research mat boxes did not show an item attached in the mail and I deleted them in space. I "slowly" learnt that deleting the notification also deleted the item even if it didnt show in the mail. My fault really for not paying too much attention to that!! Since i cant pick the item in space never thought i could delete the item in space.
I seemed to have solved the issues by the good ol "verified the game on log on" and the issue seems to have sorted. Now i get the expired notification in message with said item in the message. Beam to surface and collect item. As a rule i just dont open space mail now lol and just check it from a mailbox. Ill post again if this issue crops up or more likely post in the bug section. To play it safe ill leave items on the exchange now for day max then just take them down and re-sell them.

i have no problem getting items that have been on the exchange and expired, go to mail terminal open the email click take item and delete mail, rince and repeat if needed for multiple items.
you say its a problem having to beam down to access the mail terminal but you had to beam down to access the exchange to list the items so whats the problem?.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
