Best way to upgrade rarity on max mark items?

Hey all, so I've upgraded all my gear to mk XIV. What is the best way to go about trying to upgrade the rarity of the items? I didn't get a rarity upgrade in all of that :(. But also, I haven't been able to find good info either from the forums or dev blogs, so I don't have much to go on.

Is it going with the superior experimental + major research accelerators? That is what I have been buying off the exchange, but it doesn't go too fast.

Anyways, is there a better way? (I don't mind if its a long term goal, I *do* mind if I'm doing it inefficiently).

Thanks!

There is rarety accelerators in the Exchange, also using superior tech upgrades after level XIV increases rarity too...

Be aware that 1.5x upgrade boosters are apparently bugged at present and not working.

That's the best way that I can think of.

Your going to need a mirror, several lengths of high tension steel cable and a high tolerance for pain...

... honestly though getting your rarity up is how cryptic milk you for cash now. They used to milk the whales with fleet holdings. Now they milk us all with upgrades. Welcome to the 24th centaury where humanity is beyond monitery concepts...

Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but where is this documented?

    Patiently. :)

In all seriousness, I'm assuming almost everything that's at 14 is some shade of purple, so most of the meaningful work is done. Systems like this make impatience carry a hefty price tag, so just carry on as dilithium permits.

    Documentation? In STO?

But really, I think leethorogood is referring to this thing that's being fixed in today's patch (which is apparently only a display issue):

Thanks all! I guess superior experimentals and major research accelerators it is.

Look for the experimental superior upgrades, gives same amount of tech upgrade plus a boost to research increase too

^ At twice the cost on the exchange for Superior upgrades. Unless you have a very large supply of EC or can craft the Experimental upgrades yourself, then I humbly submit the cost is not worth the reward.

Good point, if you've got loads of refined dil, but not much in the way of EC, then the superiors may be a better choice.

Since I can craft (some) superiors I can make a bunch of EC pretty easily for the time being. So I've got lots of EC, but only have my daily dil refining cap available.

Well, the upgrade cost in Dil is ... 1075? So, if you can refine your max then that's ... 6 attempts for a rarity upgrade? You are bound to get lucky eventually.

Ultimately, patience will be a virtue because the process is not quick *unless* you have a lot ... a lot ... of EC and Dil to use.

Basically you pray to the RNG and throw HUGE amounts of dill at it (EC too if you can't craft the tech upgrades)

If you really need upgrading stuff, I suggest to wait until next weekend's R&D event to do so. Why?
Because materials prices go down significantly during these weekends. As someone else said, the superior experimental upgrades offer better chances of increasing rarity. The devs were a bit short sighted and classified them as VR like the normal superior ones making them a bit of a pain to find in the Exchange.

Question if anyone knows. If I queue up the R&D Assistance assignment tomorrow in order for it to complete during the event, will I get the bonus mats from the event?

1885 (for mk iv dhc), so more like 4. But that only reinforces your point: yeah, this will be a *very* long process unless you are thoroughly loaded. But that is why I was originally just interested in efficiency, although I should have separated EC/Dil efficiency.

(No idea about the R&D weekend thing. That would be good to know!)

I also made an attempt to get from VR to UR and failed. the resources it took to make that attempt was too great for me to justify another attempt.

Mk XIV VR is "good enough for government work". I don't need UR or Epic to play the game. :)

I mean, so long as you have other uses for your dil and ECs, then yeah, it might not be the best option (to put it lightly).

but as a long-term option on your main who is equipped pretty much how you like, it still seems like something to keep in mind.
