Security & Theft via Trade

Good morning guys and gals,

So here is my dilemma; I have been wanting a Wells Temporal Science Vessel since I first began playing (nearly two years now) and I have wasted alot of time and dillithium (converting to zen) to buy lockbox keys but to no avail, guess I'm not a very lucky person.

So i recently decided to rather save my EC and see if I can get close to the exchange value of that ship which is currently about 224 million. Sales have been good and I now sit on 161 million EC.

So I thought if I could maybe purchase one of the cheaper ships and see if someone is willing to trade it for their Wells I might get it faster...

BUT...

What is stopping someone from stealing the boxed ship that I would place in the trade window when making the trade with them? You see, I would need to hit the confirm button so that green boarder appears around my section but what if they don't confirm on their side and just hit accept?

Is there a safety feature that can prevent this?
If not, guess I will just have to wait till I have enough EC :(

Any suggestions or advice is always appreciated ;)

Thanks.

I would highly advise just saving up and buying it off the exchange. Right now there aren't any safeties in place and I have heard several times of people getting scammed/ripped off like that. Don't risk it, exchange it.

This is the reason why you should stick to using the exchange. I suppose all you can do is not click "confirm" until they've clicked it first...

    Hello!

I have a saying in STO. If you can buy it with EC, then buy it with EC. Never gamble for a ship with lockboxes. Only open lockboxes if you want Lobi crystals! IMHO.

As for the trade, i think it will be "hard" to find someone who would give you a Wells for a cheaper ship. I suggest you continue collecting EC and buy it from the exchange.

I only trade with people i trust/ or- and from my fleet. I think if you only accept the trade when the other person did put in the stuff you want in return for yours, then it should be okay. Not sure about this!

Both sides have to accept. It is impossible to get scammed unless you don't pay attention.

I was like you, spent a long time trying to acquire the temporal science vessel, bought keys initially with no luck, then saved up the ec.

Now I have it on two toons, but to be honest I prefer the Mobius, put both temporal set pieces on that, and the temporal warfare set and it's a beast!
But of course it depends on your play style.

Don't forget you can always do some tests of the system with something cheaper... maybe even ask in-game friends/fleet mates to help, and even use such an opportunity to test what it takes to make mistakes like what you're worried about? I wouldn't make such a high-value transaction my first-ever Trade!
