"XP reward boxes" vs. "whats the worth of your chars"

*Cough*
Ok this topic is not entirely serious. Its meant to show how ridiculous xp reward boxes and their pricing is.

They have been nerfed to 1000xp recently and cost you 200 zen.
So... how many would you need to buy to get your toon from level 1 to level 60?
The answer is fairly simple... to reach level 60 you need 758.000 skill points. So you need 758 xp reward boxes.

Thats 758x200 Zen. Holy cow!
-> 151600 Zen

Yeah, well... spicy price.
Im not entirely sure on how much Zen costs these days (and actually Im too lazy to take a look at it now) but I think to remember that I once bought 1100 Zen for about 10€.

So a level 60 char (without any specialization points) must be worth ~1378 €.

@Cryptic.... nuts?

    they were always useless. once leveling was fast so 20% (bonus) wasnt needed. now its slow so 1000xp is so little...
    there should be hourly bonus. yes problems you can finish mission and turn them in in that hour.

    The problem is that the amount of xp these things give and the amount they cost is absolutely and incredibly poorly balanced. Especially considering that I still have to actually do all the grinding to see any benefit from them - they're not just flat out XP given to me.

    They should give something like a 25,000 pool for 50 cents. Considering cryptic doesn't deal in exchanges that small, make them a pack of 10 for 500 zen. Five dollars for 5 "free levels" that I'll only get if I earn 25 levels the hard way seems fair to me.

    well, whats fair is unfortunatly not cryptics concern

    but you are basically right
    if these boxes would be worth something players probably would consider to buy them
    but 200 zen for 1000 xp is just.... meh
    you have to be totally TRIBBLE to buy such a box

    well, i wanted to make a point
    everyone exept the devs understand that... so yep... everything is fine

    Exactly. They would make vastly more money selling these if people actually bought them. For what they're worth now.. very, very few ever would. It costs them nothing to make more sales for less, and will gain them increased profit in the long run.

    20% for 3 hours would be a very good deal. I get more XP by doing a couple of doff assignments than what is covered by this XP boost pack.

    Even that isn't such a great deal. How much xp do you gain in 3 hours? If you're playing STF's or something like the "average" player does to level up, you're not gonna gain a whole lot - and not going to gain much benefit from this. Also, compared to other games with a limited time bonus like that, this is still astronomically expensive.

    The one nice thing about STO's system is that it gives a pool that never expires, which I far prefer to limited time buffs.

    It isn’t that much considering how much pain it can relief! Think I would have bought them for all my 8 toons if they would get me anyway near the endgame contend we had 2 weeks ago.
