DC has about as much seriousness as Hubba Bubba comics. This grimdark stuff is only recent and, unfortunately, is starting to pigeon hold DC and hamper most of it's lore. If they continue on like this, the DDCU is going to fail due to lack of material. Hell, Dark Knight Rises is a testament to that with "Real World" Bane and the 99% storyline that fit his character as well as Shuemaker's rubber Bat nip suit.
Also it makes for a strange juxtaposition with their "superheros don't kill" mantra.... I kinda get where they're going with it but it doesn't really make sense.

I still don't understand the "Let's kill the villain" trend in superhero movies. Why would you kill them off when people actually LIKE the character? Imagine if Thor had killed off Loki in the first film.

Since I love Marvel, I am very excited that this announcement has confirmed more MU is coming our way (without the curse that was the previous Spidey, DD and Electra franchise)
Now if we can get some films about the Defenders, Power Pack, the Runaways, Young Avengers and maybe throw in some New Mutants, XFactor or the Exiles... and all will be well with the best comic universe out there.
Of course since Age of Apocalypse is coming = #GeekLust

Runaways has been mentioned before, by Fox I believe. They did a film of Power Pack... in 1991, by New World.
Also what was wrong with the last Spiderman trilogy? Or Daredevil (directors cut duh)? Certainly not the heights of the MCU, but not exactly bad films.
Sadly, unless someone can pry the Merry Mutants out of Fox's claws, nothing associated with them will ever be allowed to appear in the MCU. (That's why Agents of SHIELD has to call new superhumans "gifted" - they can't say "mutant".)
Same goes for the Fantastic Four, which is probably at least part of the reason why the comic is coming to an end.
I hope they don't. Unless rebooted (bugger that) the X-Men films don't fit stylistically with the MCU or TAS.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

'...I can tell you that we're not in the military and that we intend no harm to the whales.' Kirk: The Voyage Home
'Starfleet is not a military organisation. Its purpose is exploration.' Picard: Peak Performance
'This is clearly a military operation. Is that what we are now? Because I thought we were explorers!' Scotty: Into Darkness
'...The Federation. Starfleet. We're not a military agency.' Scotty: Beyond
'I'm not a soldier anymore. I'm an engineer.' Miles O'Brien: Empok Nor
'...Starfleet could use you... It's a peacekeeping and humanitarian armada...' Admiral Pike: Star Trek
Also what was wrong with the last Spiderman trilogy?
Villain bloat, terrible Evil Peter Parker shuffle, weird subplot points that made zero sense and of course rampant villain fatalities that really served no point.
