So i was thinking about level 50 & 60 and wondering other than locking Elite content behind a mass wall of Skill points and locking Tier 2 Specialization and beyond behind another wall . What is the difference between Lvl 50 & 60 if you take away the Starship Mastery and Specialization ?
Or more importantly what was the point of a rank increase when they could have just added Starship mastery and Specialization to the existing system and locked it like they have behind a mass wall of xp.
The standard skill tree doesn't give additional points to spend, Starship power levels and hull do not increase (Unless starship mastery and Specialization is used) Ground skills are not increased.
I can't see the point in the rank increase other than to prolong the advancement in Specialization.
Maybe i'm wrong here but it seems rather than sit a timer to look at like doffing/rep systems and holdings they went with a different type of timer and that is playing till your eyes bleed to gain the needed amount of xp for specialization advancement.
Sorry if i'm wrong on this assessment, its just the way i've looked at it and the fatigue i'm feeling in trying to advance my character through this xp grind.
It's due to their limitation of two tiers of equipment per 10 levels. That's pretty much the only reason.
Oh and the ability to force everyone to upgrade ships to keep up with the Jones's...
Chris Robert's on SC:
"You don't have to do something again and again and again repetitive that doesn't have much challange, that's just a general good gameplay thing."
Starship Mastery unlocks passives, but the levels of your character (not your ship mastery) itself also grant you extra hull and shield points.
Every time you move the bar from I, II, III, IV they have Spock voice saying "Congratulations Lieutenant", "Congratulations Lieutenant Commander", "Congratulations General or Admiral". It seems to get it right after you reach level 4 of the mastery.

It's Spock, he is always right!, don't argue with him.. :P

The real reason to get to 60 is for:
- Spec points (and beyond 60)
- Elite mode
- DR Episode missions
That's...pretty much it. I was very disappointed in the skill points thing. But Rock and Roll is awesome, despite the stupid names.
