Returning Player: DR Fantastic

Delta Rising was great, really enjoyed it (obviously not Neilix, sorry Ethan it's not your fault).

I had left after 9.5, mainly due to the graphics issue (shame they still haven’t fixed that one) and also was not too keen on the BNP and rep powers nerfs.

But DR was good:
A nice level increase (would have made 60 had it not been for the exp fiasco).
That barrel role.
The cluster torpedo.
Free upgrades for most of my ships.
Loved my new T6 (but did end up dropping all the Int abilities to get my dps back up).
XIV stuff (saved quite a bit when I realised that there was no point upgrading anything other than front weapons and tac consoles, as the baddies only got a couple of zeros on their hull).
The golden shimmer and sound as you level up again (I had missed that).

Unfortunately:
The STFs (and CE) are just grindingly dull now, quite simply, not fun anymore,
the queues are dying (and, probably, will be nearly dead when the dil bonus weekend runs out).
The way exp is now, putting another toon through the new content would be as exciting as watching paint dry.
I'd stick around and farm a bit, but even that seems to have been nerfed with the new extra slow doff mission time delay (still, it will take a couple of weeks to refine all the dil ore).

So, with nothing left that I want to do, I really hope that the game is still here for the next season. Or they realise that nerfing the most popular things in a game is not a very good long term plan - and fix it.

I'm sure they made a lot of money, particularly off the whales, I just wonder who the whales are going to be playing with over the next few months, hope there's enough of them to get a queue filled once in a while.

This! Their ability to outdo their own failures is quite impressive. If only this power could be harnessed for good.

Oh dear, another one pops their head over the trench and dares voice something positive for a change.

Kudos, but I'd duck back down now. The wolves will soon descend to tear it apart.

I agree! Fantastic easily drops to good shortly into the OP's post. :P I don't get how someone can't like the grind of the STF's and CE now but likes patrol after patrol, after patrol, after patrol, after patrol with wave after wave, after wave, after wave, after wave, after wave of enemies.

Okay considering how annoyed I've been with STO today I'll end my posts for today with what I did like about Delta Rising:
    • Eclipse Cruiser: put my Andorian in it from the Avenger he's been flying for a while, and renamed it from the old Khyzon Andorian escort. It looks very similar both in hull plating and style-wise, and makes a fun new toy
    • MatHa Raptor: put my Lethean in this from the Fleet Mogh, and it's really fun
    • Missions: beaming down with the Doctor and that cutscene between Neelix and EMH was priceless

I don't think I'll ever tire of having an emh beam down when I use a hypo and say "please state the nature of the medical emergency". Possibly my favorite mission reward ever.

I've been having fun with the actualy STORY missions. They are fairly well done, and the voice acting is pretty good. The new patrols are no better or worse than old patrols and exploration content, so I won't comment on those.

Also sometimes fun is the bugged Borg Red Alerts. The ones that have no Unimatrix are obviously negative, but the ones where two spawn are genuinely pretty fun!

As the second thing will likely get "fixed", I'm hoping more story content is incoming.

Quite so. Having the original cast come back and reprise their roles was a big help... as was the twist which was not only another callback, but allowed for at least one 'Starship Troopers' nod to find its way into the game (go play Bug Hunt; you'll find them).
The new patrols are no better or worse than old patrols and exploration content, so I won't comment on those.
On the one hand, I like how many of them were callbacks to various Voyager episodes, reminding players that Janeway and company left a bit more than footprints - intentionally or otherwise - in their wake; on the other, I was most certainly not amused by the fact of some system backdrops necessitating using /renderscale .5 - or even .25... something I don't recall having to adjust in any pre-DR area with the exception of Undine Assault. How this got past QA I do not know.

A couple of them were really fun, like the one where you get to fight alongside a Hirogen hunting party.

Saw one of the former, but think the latter could be 'legitimized' as an optional challenge in the vein of the 'escalation' mechanic on Kobari; and yes, more story content would be incoming (go replay the last 'episode' on Kobari Prime and take a good look at the ending cutscene for a possible hook).

On the subject of Kobali Prime... it's fun, but at the same time missing some things from previous ground content (i.e. the Solonae DS; Nukara Prime). Two come to mind (previously noted here):

    • 'meta-missions': as in, being able to pick up missions from a contact that you could work towards in the course of everything else you're doing in-country. Hypothetical examples: 'complete 2 open missions'; 'take down X Vaadwaur tech troops';
    • headhunting: the Solonae DS battlezone had on top of everything else a roster of HVTs, some or all of whom you could encounter as optional mini-bosses.

Oddly enough, Solonae never brought the two together (i.e. Cmdr. Arnold noting that so-and-so has been confirmed to be touring the area in such-and-such vicinity; we have an opportunity to take him out)
