Rom Recon DSD T5U

Refound love for the Rom Recon DSD. I was gone on a year break from the game. When I came back the DSD just came out. Played the mission it was featured in, Step between stars? anyways. Bought it after leveling a Rom. Loved it.

Got again caught up in the DPS race, Switching to other ships. With T5U and having already upgraded 3 Rom ships for my only rom toon, I spent the EC to T5U it selling cats and such, my free lobi helped. lol.

Still puts out respectable damage, Parsed 12k first run, DHC build. And alot of fun. Grav wells are always fun on a Escort, so is the Grav torp. The Proton stabilizer, etc. I know theres better ships for straight DPS. And better escorts, the Fleet Arkif I have. But, I miss the flash of Grav wells mixed in with Grav Torps. So much fun to revisit what brought me back into the game was this ship. And it looks amazing with the Nukara shield. Had to make a sig outta it. lol. (The DSD and my other fav ship the Atrox)

The new stuff, and that crafting glitch helps, Showed me I finally need to craft I want them traits I been using. Particle manipulation, Plus the DSD new passive +15% to Exotic, etc.

Only thing is on eveyr single ship I've upgraded, every one that has a +10 Hull or +10 Shield never changes the ships stats AT ALL. every other passive works like it says so far.
That and for some reason on CCA my jem Dread has 100k hull. And only on that map.

Anyway's. The DSD rom model was always great but that white design sucked. Love the detail in the model. Hated the Arkif model. I dunno, so plain for some reason.

Anyone else still like and run this ship? I figured I gotta grind/level might as well make it as much fun as possible. lol

Next patch you'll likely have more options than just the white, including faction skins. Already live on Tribble test server according to the patch notes.

Mine stays in drydock even though I actually like the white skin, too compromised on the design, IMO. I usually just ran it in escort-y mode, which meant Lt. Comm Sci most of the time, meaning most Rom ships coudl fill it's role anyway, without having to deal with the odd energy type of the bolted-on DHCs. Flipping back and forth between modes made my BOff ability tray constantly twitch trying to put back/take off the different abilty on the Tac and Sci.

I like using the Dyson Psi-Destroyer on my Reman as a flex ship. Also, the Sci-spam without the uber-heavy science focus of the Ha'nom is nice. When I can't seem to hold my own against the min-max power gamers in PvP, I love decloaking, giving heals to my team, maybe dropping a gravity well or another gank effect, then cloaking and bolting. When someone gets wise to what I am doing, I will often use the Romulan reputation 3 second cloak to break any targeting on me while also activating my regular Romulan ship cloak. It acts as a great "time to get out of Dodge" free card.

Dyson makes a pretty good platform for a particle gens build.

Science R&D skill 15 trait gives you 25% crit chance on exotic damage per 100 skill in particle gens.
I boosted my particle gen skill past 300 + my normal crit rate as a rom i had near 100% crit chance on exotic damage.
Grav torp with Torp spread 3 and grav well 3 were absolutely brutal.

I bought the tactical c-store version for my rom sci to use as her main ship. It was okay, more interesting than effective, but still the best sci ship for Romulans. Cryptic decided to make the ship even less effective with DR, so now that toon has been retired. Mostly I regret buying the ship, only marginally competitive before DR and completely useless to me now.

Yes I love my Rom and KDF DSDs. My rom one is setup for exotic damage with DHCs. My KDF one is setup for draining and dps. Yes it can do both :) STFs go way faster when everything has no shields :)

The proton cannon seems to scale really well while leveling and even unbuffed it does nice damage. (post DR)

I love that the tac version gets an extra sci console :) It means I can full sci and full DPS.

I'm excited that they're adding more skins to the DSDs. Right now I would argue the DSD is the best faction science ship for the KDF and Roms. For my feds I'm still sticking with the vesta.

yeah got mine to +40 crit chance on exotic. Still ned a TS3 boff again. Lost that awhile back for another build. And annoying to glitch train a Rom Boff right now. sigh.

@ursusmorologus, Why you think DR made the DSD useless? lol

Useless to me. My chars were for PVP end-game, and that was essentially removed as an option after all the changes in DR. But PVP is just ahead of the curve on that--when they release a T6 rom sci ship (and they will at some point) then all of these T5 wth or without -U will become expensive storage ships.

Play the facility 4028 mission. one of the rewards is a jem'hadar tactical boff with torpedo spread 3. use him to train your other boffs.

Question, do the C-Store DSD's have 4 Tac, 3 Eng, 5 Sci consoles? Or how do they each stack up to include the event DSD?

If you mean that each gets +1 console for it's 'role', yes. The Tac version, Harpia Class, is 4 Tac, 2 Eng, 5 Sci at Tier 5. The C-Store verison has a thicker hull and shields than the Event version, in addition to the Lt. Sci BOff becoming a Universal. The Tier 5-U versions get another +1 console that complements the layout-- instead of directly enhancing the focus-- like the Harpia getting a 5th Sci console.

You must have misunderstood the question. I know that the C-Store versions are better than the Event version. I am asking how the T5-U versions of those ships rate. Particularly the console layouts of each of them.
