Simple Fixes to "Placate" DR Rage

Okay, I am not looking to bash Cryptic in this thread ... we have rightfully called them out on the problems with DR, Season 9 & 9.5 and Grind-a-versery. Instead here is a list of simple tweaks they can do to mitigate our complaints and win some "free" goodwill.

1. Ease leveling / grinds: DR doesn't allow me to level as intended by doing missions (including patrols) even on elite. It got even worse with XP nerf which was made across the board for whatever reason.

Solution: add just enough XP to each DR mission to reach the next level while doing the content.

Rationale: content already takes a lot longer even Escort/Tac so this isn't going to trivialize it. Instead it will be working the way players expect.

2. Increase rewards. DR(and Season 9.5 before it) severely reduce dilithium, EC & other rewards. Rewards are the carrots that keep us going. Make so that all end game content (yes normal too) gives at least 480 dilithium and reasonable amount of EC. Advanced should yield 960 ... because it was supposed to be like old elite. Elite should give 1440 or even 1920.

Rationale: all sticks and no carrots will kill people's motivations, kill alts and reduce playtime which is the opposite of what's intended. Short term profits will go up but long term ... I wouldn't bet the farm on that one. Realize also that casuals will put little to no money in this game. This will only convince them to leave even sooner.

3. Fix bugs: this is a no brainer. Obviously, MMOs will always have bugs. But devs need to show progress and they need to fix bugs according to severity, impact and "longevity". Critical bugs like exploits will have to be fix first. OK. And those with a big impact are even more important. But long standing issues should be resolved too eventually. Taking years is not good enough.

To quote Picard: "Not good enough damn it"

Rationale: you aren't going to convince new people to sinks tons of money into ship which is taking on water due "holes". It also looks unprofessional and affects Cryptic's image.

4. Improve communication: another no brainer. The reason why there is so much hostility on this forum is because you ignore or outright ridicule legitimate complaints. Nearly all the complaints on Tribble were ignored and the updates went straight to Holodeck.

Rationale: obvious is obvious.


Some of these problems have been here since forever. Some are much worse as of DR. Take my case ... after boycotting this game for 11 months I broke down and spent $10 on 2 Ship Module to "sell" for EC. That's because DR cost me 30 million EC on a single character & ship ... and 250K dilithium ... and I am not even done upgrading all to MK XIV.

That's insane. In no way will I spent another dime. I will just upgrade that 1 character slowly and put my alts on "ice". Many others will just quit ... especially the fresh 50s who have do everything including rep & fleet grinds.

    Might be nice if someone could find a way to contact Abdullah II of Jordan and show him how much Cryptic has bollocksed up an expansion based on the show in which he appeared as an extra, and then perhaps he could buy out Cryptic from PWE and move the game in a better direction.

    Completely agreed. They we made some very questionable and short-sighted decisions this previous year and it's about time they reconsider their strategy if they don't want the game to go downhill, which I hope they don't.
    Mr.D'Angelo as the leader really needs to re-attach himself with the community, regardless of how toxic it can get sometimes, in order to get a feeling for the pulse of his own playerbase that keeps this game going. Watching metrics is watching numbers and statistics, they don't necessarilly give input about the general satisfaction of the playerbase. There were some seriously troubling decisions and steps taken since he took over STO that have hurt and still may hurt the general health of the game. I'm only saying this because I love playing STO and I'd like to have it around for many years to come, which can only be achieved with healthy and happy playerbase.

    The problem is that all this was done deliberately, so while not Logical in a Players senese, there is some guy/Group out there inside Cryptic/PWE that wants it that way.

    Some interesting points although I didn't see what I see as the main issue with DR - the insane HP onslaught of every enemy now. This to me is the games biggest problem, its like a weight dragging almost every activity you do into excessively long endeavours.

    This is what they need to fix. And fast. I'm on the fence with leaving this game right now.

    I wouldn't mind slower leveling if there was actually enough new content to do so. :)
