Lighting/Carpeting bugs?

sorojisoroji Member Posts: 97 Arc User
First of all, I am glad the foundry is back up and running! However I'm trying to continue work on a project and I'm seeing this bug with the Federation Carpet - Grey 40 and 100 ft.

I have tried different sizes and colors red, blue/grey and still come to the same error. I am using a fed interior 02 map. I thought the lighting just might be off, but how its only happening to certain carpet items I'm not sure.

All of the carpet it set at .002 on Y so its not height issue.

Did you try setting the height higher than .002?

Yep, tried at multiple different heights, nothing changed.

I was just curious if anything had been found on this? I'm using the generic indoor fed interior 02. Seems to happen on that map consistently.

I'm hoping I don't have to rebuild/redesign the whole map because of this bug.

From what I found, the gray carpeting sections have some that are dark gray and others that are light gray. The light gray is what is shown in the preview image. It's when the dark gray and light gray overlap that one gets the distortion seen in the first post of this thread. I suspect that the dark gray pieces have something wrong with them and will need to be fixed.

I've submitted a bug report, but have no idea if/when this might be fixed. Until then, you might want to try and avoid mixing the dark and light gray.

Sorry I don't have anything more for you.

It's all good. But I would like to correct one thing, I'm only using the light grey carpet at this point. The lighting problem show up in the same areas if I create a new map using that same interior and don't have any assets placed.

Maybe it's just on my end?

In any event, thanks for the update!

That's some nice Z-fighting you've got going on there. Setting the height between the planes to be larger should hypothetically fix it. Also does it still happen after the map is published?

Yeah, its all the same carpet so it should be able to all sit on the same plane without a problem. All of that carpet is set at .002 and i was going to have a darker carpet underneath at .001. I didn't try publishing to see if it persisted. It only seems to be happening on that one map. Same lighting problems in the same places.

Its not just the carpet either, it carries over to consoles and any other asset that I have tried in that same area. So with crypticfrost's response yesterday I proceeded to start tearing it down and remake it as my first sky castle.

It's not entirely a bad thing. I'll get to try out a couple of things I've wanted to do and see if i can get it to work.
