Fluidic Counter vs. Solanae Deflector

desertjetsdesertjets Member Posts: 207 Arc User
I am tinkering and refocusing the build on my Scryer. While not bad it was way too scattered. So my plan is to stick with a crowd control/exotic damage build focused around 2 grav wells and 2 torp spreads using the Dyson Grav Torp.

The major pieces I will be running include the Adapted MACO engine and shield to get the power bonuses from the engine, plus the aux bonus and torpedo bonus from the 2-pc. The core will most likely be an elite fleet reinforced core (boosting aux and shields) but I also have the Solanae core as well.

The question is which deflector is the better fit. The Solanae has a higher bonus to partgens, SIF and Ins. Whereas the the Counter Assault is a little more balanced and gives a few attractive bonuses to both energy weapon and projectile damage. I am leaning towards to Counter Assault but am open to arguments either way.

Since you're not overly TAC-heavy, it could be argued that the CC is not as important. On the other hand, it is generally a good buff to any of your weapons damage output.

Solanae may be interesting, but putting 8 points into weapons damage skills is probably far more beneficial than putting 30 points into exotic particles... at least with the way Cryptic nerfs sci skills so much.

This is purely opinion: Use the C&C

Also: Don't forget to use either the experimental protonic weapon or the console to get 2pc boost for your gravitorp. That's "+22.9% Photon Projectile Weapon Damage" and "+3% Critical Chance".

And, if you use 2x TS, consider 1x TS and 1x THY. THY may be slower, but if it hits it is 100% proc for the mini-gravwell. If it's not your cup of tea, go back to 2x TS2 copies.

I use the Counter Command Deflector with the Adapted MACO shield and engines... with the full 3 piece AP set from the Dyson rep system.

It is nice on a tac Vesta.

Since you are using a Science focused ship such as the Scryer, and are depending on the tactic of GW+Dyson Grav Torp Spread, you are very dependent on Particle Generator Skill.

8472 Deflector has decent PGen bonus. But Solanae has by far the highest PGen bonus of all deflectors in game. Due to the type of ship you're flying, the tactics you intend to rely on, Solanae Deflector wins hands down. Not even a contest.

You're flying a Scryer. Fixed Lt TAC station, 2 TAC Console Slots. 6 Weapon Slots. Weapon dmg related boosts are not as meaningful on such a low TAC oriented ship. It's like throwing an M2 .50 cal on top of a mouse and expecting it to kill stuff with it. It's not happening.

To top it off, the GW+Dyson Grav Torp Spread tactic does not rely on the damage from the torpedoes you fire. It relies on the GW and the bunched up Rifts that go through shield to hull to do its real work. You need as high PGen Skill as you can get. It benefits other PGen related boosts, such as Lv15 Science R&D Trait (Particle Manipulator, 25% of total PGen Skill is counted as Critical), PGen related skills like TBR, PSW, GW. PGen based builds are like Drain Builds. They have to dive extremely heavily into a science related skillbox to make it worthwhile. If not, then don't bother.

If you're a SCI ship focused on doing PGen related damage as best as you can, why kid yourself with lesser substitutes?

Deep down I know this and know you are right. But I still like to be the jack of all trades type -- to varying degrees. Which is why the CC deflector appeals to me more than the Solanae. I ended up with the CC and a more focused build and am enjoying this ship more. I had a great ISA run with good teammates (and somebody that was running a parser) and pulled 10.5k DPS. That said I know there is still room for improvement and maximizing the stuff I already have.

I suspect I know the answer to this one too, but I am still carrying an embassy grav gen console.... I suspect that needs to be replaced by a part gen.

One other thing you can consider is getting your Science R+D up to 15 so you can slot the Particle Manipulator trait: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Trait:_Particle_Manipulator

    I have both:
    Fluidic Counter vs. Solanae Deflector

But SD is what I am using now. None of these sets works right to me you need the Frankenstein method for my FED SCI Admiral and KDF TAC General.

My ROM TAC Admiral does have the Fluidic 4 pc set though. I have mix feelings about using the 4 pc. It all boils down to what you want.

    More Engine Power

    or

    More Shield Power

Frankly I need more Shield Power. Right now my hull shows 72K in a space battle for my FED SCI. I am working my KDF General also. I had to spend so much on EC these past two days. Thanks for those who have shared those Mark 13 on EC roughly about 2.2 million in EC for total of 3 toons I use. I had needed certain mod specs and the one I found in a drop from one of the DR missions cost like 7.5 million on EC ouch. None of the DiL Store ones had what I needed. Just have to work around it get something else for less.
