    Interesting prompts.

Not sure if I'll come up with anything, but #2 seems the most promising.

    We'll see what happens. :D

    Good prompts!

#1 looks an awful lot like the Stargate SG-1 episode "The Changeling", or possibly DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars". Might be tricky to write, but possibly a good challenge.

I've got half of #2 plotted in my head already for Eleya. First day in charge of the Bajor, what fun!

For #3, I've got a couple ideas. One with Brokosh encountering some Gorn separatists, another with Morgan, with the RSE offering peace to the Republic a la the Pellaeon-Gavrisom Treaty in The Hand of Thrawn.

As for you, cheesebasket, don't be a jerk.

I was going to write a thing where D'trel has a bad day, meets Hakeev via viewscreen, loses it, and ends up sitting in a waiting room on a warbird next to a Jem'Hadar.

    Should be fun.

A very good read, worffan. Got a bit of a sense of "is this guy crazy?" from D'Trel when she met Omek.

Yeah, I think that scene went really well; Omek's religious beliefs make him a...strange person to interact with.

As in, tenet #1 of his religion is that forcing anyone to worship Odo is evil. Tenet # 2 is "Don't worship Glorious Odo'Ital in front of him, for He is made uncomfortable by our devotion".

Thank you, and glad you enjoyed it!

    Good read, Worffan.

However, I'd suspect after a couple of missions, D'trel will be losing her ship because she keeps on losing crew. They don't want to work with her because she is one scary person.

Worffan, do you like taking Psychology and Philosophy classes in college?

I've taken intro and clinical psych, yeah. Plus I've read the DSM IV-TR and the moronic mess known as the DSM V.

If you've noticed, none of the people D'trel has on her ship at the start of this story are regular cast members. The guys she DOES have are all there for personal reasons.

And she's actually a good person and a competent commander; it's just that the Tal Shiar and the Iconians cause her to...have issues.

Shevet: Yup, that's a Ronnie thing, all right. Maybe not PTSD-post-Borg-self-liberated Ronnie, but very definitely Ronnie. I honestly would've preferred Rrueo, but this was a very fun read.

Starswordc: Excellent as usual. Liked the in-jokes and outside references. The "Generations" reference made me laugh. Is Kerensky turning from an in-joke into a full-on expy?

EDIT: also, any thoughts on the "Reunion" adaptation I did? Did I do a decent job resuscitating Neelix from scrappyhood?

I dunno, I just threw the name in there for a continuity nod.

Yeah, I was definitely drawing a contrast with Generations there. Instead of having a half-finished ship forced into action because it's bizarrely the only ship in range at the Federation's capital and military headquarters, the ship is completely finished and responds because the captain's in a bad mood and wants to shoot something. :D

No, I didn't see it yet. I was working on "Shakedown Shenanigans" most of the week and I've got work today, so...

Ooh, I like that one. Another one was "mail buoy watch". You give the TRIBBLE a large hook and binoculars, fitted with a harness and safety line and stationed on the weather decks near the bow. He is told he's on mail buoy watch. The imaginary "mail buoy" contains all of the ship's mail, dropped off by another ship earlier that day. Instructions are given that when s/he sees a buoy of X description he must hook the buoy or the bag on the buoy. They're warned that the whole ship is waiting for their mail, and failure to hook it will have the whole ship mad at him.

For bonus points, they also tell the guy that if he gets it wrong he'll be dragged overboard by the buoy, so he's in his brightly colored waterproofs. Meanwhile literally everybody on the entire ship, captain included, is sitting there falling down laughing at how dumb he looks.

Then there's the one Eleya mentioned, "blowing the DCA". The noob is told that the DCA is like an air horn and he needs to blow it before the ship leaves port. The DCA, or Damage Control Assistant, is a junior officer.

Hawk, writing something that isn't a crackfic? Isn't that one of the signs of the apocalypse?

Actually that was a pretty nicely handled play on prompt 1. And the necroposting reference cracked me up given we've had two Archived Post threads in two days just on this subforum.

That may not have been Hawk's usual hilarious crackfic, but it was pretty damn funny crackfic anyway.

The fun part of this challenge is that if I can ever get the LC Halloween story to come the hell out of my hindbrain, it'll also fill Prompt #2 here, as it'll take place during the inaugural voyage of the Latinum Princess (Earth to Bajor, taking some people for the Day of Remembrance, with a stopover at DS9 to transfer personnel and cargo bound for Gamma Quadrant).

A Romulan glossary, by request from marcusdkane. I didn't realize until I compiled this how much Rihan we'd used, although most of it is titles.
    • ahlh aehallhai: profanity
    • amnhhei'saenhe: tactical officer
    • Areinneye: Hell. "Urru Areinneye!" = "Go to Hell!"
    • arrain: military rank, equivalent to a Starfleet lieutenant (OF-3)
    • ataen: profanity
    • au'e: emphatic "yes"
    • bedah: formal farewell
    • Bhorgsu: Borg
    • Card'hassinsu: Cardassians (sing. Card'hassinha); see also ch'Card'hass
    • ch'Card'hass: Cardassia Prime (lit. "[planet] of the Cardassians")

    • fvadt: profanity, akin to "damn"
    • fvillhu: Praetor, head of government of the Romulan Star Empire
    • galae: "fleet", but referring to Romulan adoption of massed airpower after settling Romulus, rather than being a maritime allusion. One might infer that Romulan space navies have more in common with the US Air Force than the Navy.
    • Galae s'Kreh'dhhokh Mol'Rihan: Romulan Republican Force (lit. "New Romulan Republic Fleet), naval service of the Romulan Republic
    • Galae s'Shiar Rihan: Romulan Imperial Fleet, naval service of the Romulan Star Empire

    • Khiu'draao s'Shiar: Imperial Army, ground military service of the Romulan Star Empire
    • khnai: "thank you", superior to inferior
    • khre'enriov: "supreme commander", military title akin to Commander-in-Chief of the Federation Starfleet (OF-11)
    • khre'riov: "subadmiral" (lit. "commander-general"), military rank akin to Starfleet commodore or rear admiral (OF-1)

    • Lloannen'galae: Federation Starfleet
    • mnhei'sahe: Lit. "Ruling Passion", the Romulan concept of "honor". Out-of-universe, based heavily on the ancient Roman value "gravitas". Has a lot to do with saving and maintaining face.
    • rahaen'enriov: "high admiral", akin to Starfleet fleet admiral (OF-10)
    • rekkhai: non-gendered address to military superior, akin to Starfleet "sir"

    • shaoi kon: formal hello, inferior to superior
    • Shiar ih'Saeihr Rihan: Romulan Star Empire
    • Tal'Diann: Romulan Military Intelligence, akin to Starfleet Intelligence (or in real life, the Office of Naval Intelligence) as the internally operated intelligence service of the Romulan military (talk to Protogoth for more detail). Name used for functionally identical agencies in both the Empire and the Republic.
    • Tal'Shiar: Imperial Secret Service, former paramilitary intelligence service, secret police, and ideological enforcement arm of the Romulan Star Empire (no direct Earth analogue; they're sort of an amalgamation of the KGB + popular perception of Communist Party political officers + Waffen-SS). As of 2409, effectively a state unto itself.
    • Terrhaha: human, from "Terran" (adj. Terrhain, pl. Terrhasu)
    • Tholinsu: Tholians (adj. Tholin, sing. Tholinha)
    • uhlan: military rank, akin to Starfleet enlisted rate of crewman or petty officer

Just posted my idea for this round as I'm utterly stuck on LC 12.

I hope I got the Andorian "brother" correct.

    So, cast for this vignette:
    Kathryn Beringer - Rachel Nichols

    Anthi Ythysi - Katheryn Winnick

Mentioned but not seen: Thel Ythysi - Kevin Sorbo

Mentioned but not named: Omazei - Gemma Arterton

Thanks for picking one of my prompts! I had a pretty good idea for this one, too bad I missed this one.
Hopefully I'll get in on one of the next ones. I should be able to get back into these LCs/ULCs shortly. :)

PS. The other day I had a dream where Ba'al invaded our world. Unfortunately, with no SG1 Earth's defense was pretty shoddy. It was sadly funny. Considering that I haven't watched Stargate in ages, the only person I can blame for this is you worffan101... Thanks for that.

Well, since the thread isn't locked you can technically write the story anyway. :) The deadline is just a convenient excuse. And hey, it was a good prompt!

Heh, you're welcome for that! I do try. Hail Ba'al!
