Aye when PWEA brought CRYPTIC FROM ATARI.

    This following statement was announced.

“We are very pleased to sign the agreement to acquire Cryptic Studios,” commented Mr. Michael Chi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Perfect World in a statement. “This strategic acquisition will add attractive game titles to our portfolio, which will help us further penetrate into the U.S. and global online game markets. More importantly, Cryptic Studios’ highly reputable development team and its technology platform will further strengthen our well-established R&D capabilities. We deem this as another noteworthy achievement of our global expansion efforts.”

The interesting part I believe is about the R+D.

For many years PWEA found it very hard to export their Asian monetising model to the west.

But now we are seeing a watered down version appearing here and in neverwinter.

To be fair its not only in cryptic games but it is becoming indemic across the MMO/F2P/ARENA gaming landscape.

In STO the first step was the christmas Jem bug box.

This was the intro and they have been ramping up ever since.

So yes I expect it will get much worse as in most R+D senarios you need to push till it breaks to get good data.
And only then pull a step back from the cliff edge and sit on that sweet spot of profit.

As a gainfully employed person who keeps his emotions a little bit tamped down (helpful when you regularly act as a punching bag for type-A, high-powered attorneys who think certain software systems don't work fast enough), I'd like to second the OP's sentiment.

I'm officially boycotting spending money on this game. I'll still play. I have friends here and I don't want to leave the TS community we've developed in playing this game. We are actively exploring other options but we've spent quite a lot of time building a T4 Fed starbase and a T2 Klink starbase so we have some skin in the game.

Over the past couple years I don't even want to guess how much money I've spent buying dilithium for fleet projects. Easily $60 a month, probably nearly twice that. We're a smallish fleet- maybe 100-120 members, a fifth of which are truly active and contributing. I suppose we could work more on recruiting but that just loops back to my first sentence already: I already HAVE a job, thank you very much. Also, I'm not interested in enforcing contributions from fleet members. That kind of shake down mentality would make me feel very much like Perfect World Entertainment.

Speaking of shake downs, I'd just like to make known that I gave willingly what I will not give in response to PWE's vulgar money-grubbing. I'm sorry that there are people out there that will. Indeed, PWE's marketing vultures are probably right that overall they're likely to get more money squeezing players than less, and people like me who will be counter to that trend are an anticipated but worthwhile loss to them. Player satisfaction and long term customer loyalty is not a concern. There's a universe of other willing short term wallets to explore, and it's nice to see some sort of nod to the thrill of exploration in this Star Trek game.

I don't blame the devs, as in the actual designers of the game. If I were them I would be mortified to be taking the kind of fire from the player base this forum has been dishing out for the past week, in part because I suspect they by and large agree with us but clearly cannot say so. Game designers rarely make much money, particularly relative to other people with the same skillset in different industries. It must be galling to do something because you're passionate about it but ultimately have it controlled by others who intend to milk it to death.

I like RPG's, but not when the only role-playing is the publishing company acting like Ferengis.

P.S: Fun fact: in ST:TNG they said the Federation no longer had an economy at all! How's that for immersion?

No its separates the little kids from their money and time. Grow up, defending the company gets you nothing. They are clearly upsetting a large part of the fanbase, this should raise a flag to you. You are on the customer side with us. You dont work for Cryptic or PW so why champion a broken game? Because you like to see others suffer? Youre a bad person? Youre in a basement somewhere whacking it with a cheese grater?

We are all a part of this community and when something is wrong, we have to stand together. People are able to level faster and earn a little Dil.....who does this hurt? Why do you care? You shouldnt, it helps you gear up your ships, it helps you have more people to play with. I say all of you that are fed up, join me this weekend and dont play, I mean logg on to get your Lobi crystals, but dont play. If 5000 of us do this, that enough to get their attention. We all pay to play this game, hell I paid around 200 bucks getting ready for DR, only to now hate the game. Lets take back OUR game. We are the reason it is still profitable, We DESRVE to enjoy playing.

i am guessing it "might" be possible if Toven just "so happens to stumble" into a trench to collect something on Koboli Prime, he "might" run into a few Vaadwaur that could have mistaken him as a threat.

But that is (*cough) only speculation...

Might I suggest to those unemployed folk you know that playing a video is not the best use of their time?

Perhaps, I don't know... look for a job?

Apparently you are fortunate enough to be blessed with constant employment and have been living in a protective bubble against the economic downturn, lucky you. Obviously you have not had the misfortune of having to look for, apply to, and get rejected for COUNTLESS jobs, as are so many others for the very same jobs. I've been ignored, under qualified, over qualified and given the run around, time and time again.

It doesn't help to have callous people like yourself, who obviously have NO idea what it's like, nor any empathy, tell me/us to "Get a job". Maybe when your company down sizes, reduces your hours, or your replaced by kids half your age willing to work for half as much, you'll get a ****ing clue what it's like. I wont even bother to touch on disabilities.

Yes I have given up, why should I keep hitting my head against a wall, only to make my headache worse, self image shattered, dignity eliminated, and self respect shot to hell? Thank you for pointing out what a failure and looser I am for not being able to find a job. Guess I can always get a bucket and squeegee and try to wash your window at the stop light, in hopes you'll be kind enough to throw me a dollar.

This game had provided an escape and camaraderie with friends, but almost all those I played with have left. This game has turned into a un-paid job, to grind away my life in an endless pursuit of what? Guess I'll go to the dollar store and find that bucket and squeegee.

Actually all those who mine Dil , participate in the Dil-Zen market , and pretend that they got "free stuffs" -- they are the the very ppl my sig talks about .
They are the ones who enjoy the "free app" .

And they -- like myself recently -- are a part of the "machine" that makes the Dil-Zen market function (among other things) , so they (and myself) are a part of the product .

Good job in predicting the future there champ, no way to know for sure if it's worth the hype until it's released and even then, it's a matter of perspective really.

Oh, and no game company takes 'serious' thought on what every single person has to say but, at least they would listen to a few select individuals, unlike what it is here, which is none.

Not to take away from any health issues you may have, but perhaps look into another field better suited to your needs? I find it hard to imagine you're truly only capable of one thing. I work with a few people who have some health issues, one has Cystic Fibrosis and he does just fine. Also, I know our State offers incentives for companies to hire people and train them in new skills. Perhaps look into those? Instead of playing STO?

We've(my family and I) already looked into several of these options, actually....

    Tragically at this point, I effectively -am- a 'one trick pony'...granted, all of my issues are mental disabilities, but, on top of what I mentioned above, and likely as a result of 2 of them, I also have what amounts to zero ability to deal with stress...; I've been known to literally worry/stress myself into a bedridden state(coupled on one occasion with a self-induced 102-degree fever) for 1-2 days at a time over what would be a trivial thing to most other people...job interviews...don't even get me -started- on what that does to me.... -_-;

Unfortunately, I'm also ill-suited for any kind of manual labor, being rather uncoordinated at best.

Compounding all of this(yep, there's more) is a lack of a personal vehicle, coming from 2 years I spent living in New Zealand in a failed attempt to start a new life with a wonderful lady I was engaged to who's a NZ citizen(we're still best friends), -and- the fact that, again due to my disabilities and my lack of stress-management, my primary care physician has restricted me from working more than 40 hours a week under any circumstances whatsoever, up to and including, in his own words, '...acts of God'.

For now, we're waiting to see what the disability lawyers we've retained(who don't get paid unless I win) do with the results of a recent psychiatrist appointment I had, scheduled by the state...was trying to determine the extent of my disabilities....

My only 2 reasonably safe remaining options for income at this point are to start my own business(we're leaning towards a house-sitting thing), or to get started writing a book I've been working on for a little over a year(non-fiction; telling the true-life story of my experiences with my NZ lady from when we met to the current day) and praying it takes off!

So.....why am I here so much? Video games have long been a source of happiness for me, and, far and away, the easiest means at my disposal to -safely- vent stress...and it doesn't get much more satisfying than to ram a Vaad Tricobalt Cluster Torp up a ship's skidplate and watch the fun, now, does it? Minecraft has also been a -very- good thing for me...lets me be creative and just randomly wander around...so I play it often, too....

I appreciate the thought, regardless! :)

    I -do- have a way with words...I love writing short stories and comedic sketch-style bits, much in the vein of Monty Python and The Frantics(and you get bonus points in my book if you even know who the Frantics are!), and I have a year of on-air radio experience from volunteering at a community radio station...just haven't figured out how to profit from that.... <_<;
When in doubt...Gravity Well TO THE FACE!! :D

ESO said the SAME, EXACT THING. All you heard was that they were listening to feedback and that they were going to do their best to listen to the consumer.......then they release a race that ONLY pre-orders can and is behind a paywall, then release a game so buggy, with such bad grouping mechanics you wonder if they were even trying to make an MMO in the first palce.

Same with SWTOR as well. everyone was lsaying how they were listening to feedback, that it would be one one of the greatest community games ever, then a WOW clone is released and when it ges F2P, they put endgame behind a massive paywall.

    DEStiny, same thing

DDO, DCUO, Guild Wars 2, etc. They all said teh same thing, all had MASSIVE hype.

Okay i have 59 friends that play regularly and 89% say whoever is doing these adjustment like dilithium ,xp ,ec for drops , upgrades that need insane dilithium grinds that made stf's die in droves of numbers not playing them, especially klingons ,if the ship upgrade system had unreleased news about how they work and what consisted of the tier5u was vs tier 6 issues caused way less sales that hurt there wallets I'm sure ? SOMEONE is causing all these bugs problems with shutting downs of whole sectors of grinds and romulan space also N'vak and Kerrat those were 2 more major grind areas that were fun pve and pvp's ! WARZONE's NOW DO NOT EXIST IN GAME ! oh well , they just shut them down for why not broken they were fine ?? yeah thats what i thought by having a thought ,well no place to grind means we do areas they want us in because all the other places are shut down , were being turn into cattle in space ships == feel the energy of the transformation freely weeee !
Anyway good luck whoever is making these calls behind the unknown scenes thats really boning and hurting The Trek your gonna need it :((

don't harsh on this guy (the OP)

don't nitpick on whatever he's going through and however he expressed it here, that he should have used this word instead of that word or w/e

I'll bet, in one form or another, everything the OP wrote everyone else in the game has thought of from time to time, perhaps not in quite the same way, but he's not alone
