Need suggestions for a Dyson Science Destroyer pack.

My Klingon character is a Science Captain.

I am thinking about getting the Dyson Science Destroyer pack and attempting to get the Lobi ship for the warp core. My problem is what I should I run on it for energy weapons. I want something that can do damage but at the same time is not gimped by something like Protonic Polaron where you get double damage against Voth only.

Before anyone suggests I am planning on running this Science heavy, so Dual Heavy Cannons will be considered but my main idea is a beam boat because the Dyson Science Destroyer has the same turn rate as my Fed Vesta, which means keeping cannon on target will be a challenge.

I would recommend going Romulan or Corrosive Plasma, use embassy consoles in science slots to bolster your damage.

Alternatively get Anti-proton, and you can get your Warp Core and Omni Beam from the featured episodes and skip the Lobi Ship.

Which sucks, I recently took mine back out for another flight just because and couldn't make it do what I could do better in other ships. lol

Which is too bad, Put the Nukara shield on the Rom version and it looked AMAZING!. So I wanted to make it feel as good as it looked and thats just....not gonna happen. If you could switch out that damned fused on weapon.

Synthia, which ship are you talking about? I want to be sure I avoid it, whatever it is. I'm not sure which ship skollufr is talking about either.

Are you both saying you were disappointed with the Dyson Science Destroyer(s)?

    Sorry, it was my build.
I Jumped on Tribble so I could play around without all the probs of messing with my live Boffs, because that's not a simple thing on holodeck for a KDF/ROM.

It was the build. I instead did a DHC, Torp fore build.
Between Grav Torps, Grav Well 1, CSV. alot of fun. And the Proton Console, etc.
Ship is great. Can you do more damage say, in a Fleet Arkif? sure.
But, nowhere near as fun as Locking it all down with a grav well, And blasting a bunch of torps into the mess while you CSV into the mess. At least to me the DSD properly set up, specced into Particle,Projectiles, etc.
    The DSD is pure joy.

So that's what my Rom fly's on Holodeck right now. It's too different from my other toons that I look forward to doing it again. So I play it most nowadays. Just a good feel.

So put the ship on my sig. Love the stripe down the center with the Nukara Shields.

Although, sorry this was a KDF thread. But, don't see that the ships are any different per faction other then looks.

I'm loving the DSDs for the mirror event. They have nice DPS and can quickly close the rifts.

Spending 600 lobi for the Solanae warp core is very much NOT worth the price. Its not a very good core, and the 4-piece special ability is basically a not-as-good version of RSP. Fleet Elite Amp or even some of the Rep cores are superior, but the Solanae core is more a 'cute trick' than anything and very much not worth such a high price.

If you like DSD, get a c-store version and an upgrade token (still cheaper than 600 lobi). If you REALLY liked the clickies in the 'test drive' version or want to really max out the built-in DHCs then the 3 pack might be nice (might), but if you just want the frame itself then just pick one version and keep it simple (what I did, just the tac version). No need to waste money on stuff thats just gonna sit in your inventory unused.

tried running the episode dsd tonight with fluidic AP weapons.
now i feel like discharging every ship i have that doesnt have 4 tac consoles.

    go figure.
it doesnt have teh turn rate to apply dhc's in a way that will exceed beams
and it doesnt have the tac capacity to match a proper destroyer.

even with the free upgrade from dr the ship feels shuggish and flimsy, which wouldnt be so bad if it had the offencive capacity to compensate.

but real game scenario testing makes the ship just inferior.
what could have been a novelty in the station switching, turns out to be a mere gimmick due to the overall weak combat ability.

*shrugs* maybe its the build i used. im keeping the ship as parts storage at least. but im not impressed. cirtanly not impressed enough to spend 50bucks then double dip for upgrades to t5fu.

**running the romulan vrsion, havnt tried the kdf version yet

fluidic ap are one of the dumbest weapons in the game for a cannon. its proc knocks the enemy further way from you reducing the damage you can deal to them. as cannons do better the closer you are to the enemy. id say dump the fluidic weapons out any airlock you can they are just awaste of space and what ever you spent to get them. then give the ship another try.

but i agree for the most part the ship is bad but for a drain build it actually does pretty damn good.

IMO the real benefit of the lobi version is the secondary deflector - shield and flow caps bonuses which add up to another Sci console, and can be upgraded from the basic Mk XI rare.

Worth 600 lobi? Probably not, but it is at least a unique feature of the ship, and there are no other options elsewhere (unlike the core).

OP, at this stage of the game, Post-DR, I would hold off in buying T5 ships altogether. Early T6 entrants already make them obsolete, and I'm curious to see what new T6 ships Cryptic will send out in the months to come. There's tricks already that the Fed Scryer can do that no other Science vessel can do. What can you do with your Science abilities if you could take your Aux Power and overcap it with about +40 Aux temporarily? Yeah, something to think about.

Now, for the KDF and Roms, both have not gotten any T6 Science heavy ships. But who knows what will be in store next for T6?

If you already have a Science ship for your KDF, I'd say go ahead and use that for now. If you don't, I still would not buy the DSD now. I would not buy the Lobi nor C-Store versions now. No sense in spending A LOT of resources on obsolete ships.

Save the resources. I have a gut feeling Science will be covered next for the Roms and KDF.

The new KDF skins are very very nice looking.

I use the ship on my Gorn Sci Captain, when I want to sci with a cloak, even though I have a Krenn & Korath on that same character.

On one of my Tact toons, I'm using it and a T5U Kamarang, both for GW love.

It's all a matter of taste, but the new skins for these ships are great.

my advice would be not to. You can do nearly everything that DSD can do with a norgh BOP if your goal is a cannon dps ship that can seat heavy science powers.

If you want a 5 sci console ship, I would sit on my hands until they release a T6 sci ship for us.

Unless you had gotten the 4th anniversary grind ship (with a free T5U upgrade) I don't really think I'd bother with any of the DSDs. On my Rom-Fed the freebie DSD has been my ship since the event and I have always had a love/hate relationship with it.

If you want to do something on the cheap consider the Mirror Somraw -- granted you can't upgrade it, but if you want do science-like things and have some DPS it isn't a bad place to sit until something better comes along.

Any Polaron is fine, even Protonic. The ADSDs make excellent drain boats with their high science and tactical capabilities. Stuff all the flow capacitors you can on it, with a Plasmonic Leech, Tyken Rift 3 and BFAW Polaron Beam Arrays. Since you seem to be going for the anniversary one, it's secondary deflector favors drain builds as well.

The other solid alternative for the ship(s) would be a high aux gravity well torpedo boat. It's got the the tactical seating and consoles to fully support belching out torpedos.

It's really hard to justify putting the ship into Tactical mode most of the time unless you slot something like Attack Pattern Beta 3 to help everyone burn down bosses faster(or want to try to run it as a minelayer).
