Plasma or Disruptor?

induperatorinduperator Member Posts: 806 Arc User
I'm upgrading my Beloved Scimitar and outfitting it with the Vulnerability Locator consoles but I'm uncertain as to what energy type to use, my preferred choice is either Plasma or Disruptor as being green they are closer to canon.
So between Plasma, Romulan Plasma or Disruptor what do you belive would be the most appropriate? Opinions?

Honestly, any of those 3 routes are viably good routes.

One thing I do want to say though is that as a Rom player, if you want to jump into other warbirds and utilizing some of their consoles, there are a few that push for Plasma. Ar'kif, Veteran Ship, and now the Faeht with its Plasma Lance.

Your upgraded Plasma / Rom Plasma may mesh better with those other warbirds if you want to play with those other Plasma-centric consoles.

However, I have disrgarded Plasma in 2/3 of my Rom toons to either use Disruptor or Antiproton. So don't think I'm trying to shoehorn you into Plasma/Rom Plas. But just trying to put some insight to reasons with your options.

    beam boat?

keep in mind the rom rep plasma array uses no energy...

disruptor only proc a resist debuff that does not stack but can be refreshed.

if solo I would use plasma, if your in a group... disruptors would be good if no one else is using it.

Does that mean with romulan plasma arrays you can set the weapon power to minimum and still get the full effect or do you still need high weapon power for the damage to be increased?

He's talking about the Prototype beam you get from Rep, of which you can fit only one. So no, setting your weapon power to minimum is not wise.

Romulan Plasma. Best of all 3 worlds - plasma proc, Disruptor proc, and it even has Romulan in the name. :)

The guy is talking about the Experimental Array: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Romulan_Singularity_Harness , not the Rom Rep arrays - you still need high weapons power, it just uses no weapons power to run. 2 piece with console is good, but the Torp is a net DPS loss (even if it does look cool)

And even if it did work like that, your other 7 weapons would likely be stuffed.

    Disregard what he said...

The Experimental Rom-Plas Beam Array is the only weapon from New Romulus that doesnt drain power. The tooltip on it says "this weapon does not drain weapon power when firing with other weapons". You can only equip 1 experimental rom plas beam array. The other Rom-Plas weapons do drain weapon power and you can have as many of those as you want.

Bear in mind I want the build to be as close to canon as possible so I will be using a DHC build.
Considering most people opted for Romulan Plasma I will go with that the question is defiantly Romulan Plasma or Fleet Plasma? Because Romulan Plasma looses one modifier because of the extra proc.

That Extra Proc is worth far more than one [mod], and actually the Scim was mostly single cannons and Torp launchers, 52/27 respectively.

I wish i could do canon builds, but sadly, the ships i liked used beams and everyone thinks beams + dps is not viable, only DHCs are viable dps weapons....such a pity.

Good luck with your canon build attempt though.
