Hello forums! I recently started playing this game, and have started leveling a Gorn Tac. He's level 26 right now, and I am committed to become a BoP captain in both PVP & PVE. That being said, I am looking for suggestions on how to improve my skills with these ships. Does anyone here have any pointers or links to topics that discuss how to get the most from a tactical captain flying Raiders?
Simple - you are a flying weapon. You decloak, whack your opponent with as massive a stick as you can muster, and GTFO of there whether you killed them or not.
Never dogfight - you WILL lose. Or at least you should, if you win a dogfight your opponent is incompetent and deserves derision. Full Stop.
Just sneak in, stab in back, run.
Buff up at 11k away from target, roll in, blast everything, and you are gone BEFORE your CRF cycle has finished.
Decloak, strike, GTFO - that is how you use a BoP. Some BoPs (or raiders, or light escorts) use different strategies in their GTFOing, but that is a separate point.

Last year, a Fed player would TRIBBLE in their underoos a little when they saw a BoP decloak for an alpha strike.
The Devs changed all that.
Thanks for that link! Got some good tips from there and the link to Alpha Strikers. So now I have some other questions:
1) I have heard various opinions on the merits of CRF vs. CSV, namely that against single targets CSV actually does more damage (similar to the difference between THY and TS). Is this true, and if so, which is preferred for most combat (CRF would draw less aggro than CSV, so I can see merits to both opinions.
2) Would it be worth it to put points into my torpedo skills and a lot one in, or would an all energy build be better? Also, a lot of builds I see have a DBB slotted as well, what is the reason for this instead of an all-cannon build?
3) Are the Crit skills worth my skill points, or should I put those toward something else?
1) Supposedly CRF is best vs single target so it should be what you will use.
I use CSV so I can get pets and destructible torps without having to switch targets.
2) I would say don't put any points into torpedo skills, they'll do damage regardless.
A Beam Overload will auto-CrtH but won't do the damage they used to.
Make sure your DBB has a CrtD mod or 2 to take advantage of it.
3) My opinion is to max Starship Energy Weapon Specialization and Starship Weapon Performance.
They're the only space Admiral level skills I put points into.
Others may have a different opinion.

1) Different skills, different uses - CRF is used for BoPs because it means you get two cycles of DHCs and not one, even if they are slightly lower damage. (keep in mind you will only be firing for a matter of seconds)
2. Torp is for HY, DBB is for BO - you are trying to deliver a massive spike - a good BO Crit takes out a shield facing, and the rest go straight to hull, where torps are best against.
3. Invest in them, but don't over invest in them - they require a significant amount of skill points, and you may find they are better used elsewhere.
