Cryptic stealing Skill Points.

kylanthkylanth Member Posts: 22 Arc User
As many of you noticed, today we all got a free respec. What many people DIDNT notice was that Cryptic actually took 3000 skill points away from what you could spend on the skill tree.

The previous skill total was 366000, and after today's patch that has been reduced to 363000. This WILL mess with your build and make it a bit more difficult to squeeze in all the skills you had before.

Thanks for letting us know you were doing this Devs.

I have to ask, why is the assumption that this was intentional?

Way back in the early game, they accidentally removed Station K-7 - things like this happen, as do bugs, and it's still only 2 days after launch.
    Was named Trek17.

Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

Yeah, um...see...after I did the respec...

    Space Spent: 300,000
    Ground Spent: 66,000

    Total Spent: 366,000

...before assuming malice, check what you've got going on there and if need be file a bug report.

I threw in 366000 without a problem. Check that you aren't trying to put it into a higher tier skill which costs more than your remaining points.

The bug is only affecting some people. I had to respec on all of my toons that were 50+ after today's patch but so far they have all been able to spend 366K

Okay so, tried to respec 2 different characters. The second who is 50 was able the get his skill tree the exact way it was before at 366k, the first who is 51 was not.

Maybe you guys are right that its not intentional but something is messed up and I'm not the only one having this problem.

OP forgot to add that skill respecing doesn't work either. You can go to the officer, mess with your skills, but as soon as you hit "accept" the screen freezes and resets to what you had without consuming a token.
Said NO to Arc. Gets punished by not being given a free outfit, free lobi, and free shuttle. Now forced to use Arc's site when trying to get to STO site. Still not rewards for beta testing the Arc website by force. Bravo Cryptic.

Yup, I saw this being mentioned before I respecced the one character I did so far - however I was able to use all 366.000 skill points. So it's not intentional, but rather a bug that happens to random players I guess.

Try doing it in space, in orbit of ESD for ex. Other players suggested this as a workaround and it worked for me.

I did mine in sector space. Still have my full 366,000 points used. I had the build saved at the Academy skill planner and it's exactly as I had it.

I suppose time by yourself as people banish you from their sight (or from their nostrils) would mellow yourself out too as well. Plus green beans aren't illegal anywhere

And why would they be? They are a healthy, delicious snack.

Beans? Yes quite. They're an excellent source of filler for my chili.

This happened to me too, but was easily remedied.

When I did the respec, I had 363000 points to spend. I just spent them like you normally would and accepted the new spec.

Once done, I had the flashing 'Spend Skill Points' in the upper left corner. I clicked that and it gave me the other 3k points to spend.

Not sure why it happens, but you will get all your skill points. When I re-speced my Fed, he had the correct amount from the start. It appears to effect the Character and not the Account.

Affect is a verb. It means to produce a change in or influence something.

Effect is a noun. It is the result or change that occurred. When an "s" is added, "effects" means personal belongings.

Hmm, sounds like a memory issue, that is corrected when going back to it. You know like restarting the computer fixes an error?

Before Delta Rising, spendable skill points were identical to skill points earned while leveling. Now, even though we keep earning skill points as we level, we stop earning spendable skill points at level 50. If you click on the skill point bar at the top of the screen, it will open up the rank window, which says:

10 * Starfleet Lieutenant Commander (Gain 33,000 Skill Points)
20 * Starfleet Commander (Gain 93,000 Skill Points)
30 * Starfleet Captain (Gain 173,000 Skill Points)
40 * Starfleet Rear Admiral, Lower Half (Gain 263,000 Skill Points)
45 * Starfleet Rear Admiral, Upper Half (Gain 313,000 Skill Points)
50 * Starfleet Vice Admiral (Gain 363,000 Skill Points)
55 * Starfleet Admiral (Gain 497,000 Skill Points)
60 * Starfleet Fleet Admiral (Gain 758,000 Skill Points)

I think Cryptic rescaled the number of skill points needed to reach different ranks. This, combined with the cap on spendable skill points, has probably introduced a bug.

Effect is a noun. It is the result or change that occurred. When an "s" is added, "effects" means personal belongings.

That's not always true. Take the following statement:

"His affect was angry until he discovered how to effect a solution."

Though I do agree that he probably did mean "affect" in the context of his post. :)

Wrong! 'Effect' can also be used as a transitive verb. It then means the completion of a change; like in this (clearly imaginary) scenario:

"Endless forum complaints finally effected a change in the way Cryptic handled bugs."

Oh, and 'effects' can simply also be the plural of 'effect.'

So, you were wrong on both counts!
