How to maximize DPS?

I've heard there are some fleet science consoles that give almost +10% dps to plasma, do any other energy types have anything that can match that or does this give plasma a boost in dps over all the other energy types?

And yes, I know all about item set bonuses, except a lot give up [amp] on the warp core, or are lower than just one of these, and plasma does have its own, I believe the Romulan Singularity Harness from the rep system that looks pretty good, although would force me to use a beam array instead of another turret/DHC.

Before the threat consoles that add extra plasma damage existed, plasma was behind in terms of overall DPS when compared to other, equally leveled, weapon types. That said, the romulan plasma weapons do very well when you add 1 or 2 threat consoles that add plasma damage. At that point, it's been among the highest effective DPS energy weapons such as antiproton.
the threat consoles add plasma damage to non-plasma weapons too, so they are worth getting whether you are looking for a plasma based or non-plasma based weapon loadout.

Romulan Plasma is from the rep store though, aren't they? Can regular Plasma compete or would it be more cost-effective to go Anti-Proton?

There's always Corrosive Plasma now . Corrosive behaves very similar to Romulan plasmas in that it provides a damage debuff and applies a DoT.

The exchange is saturated with Corrosive right now, so finding a nice set of modifiers you want (such as CritDx3) shouldn't be difficult or costly.

Those same consoles give the plasma burn procc to non plasma weapons.

    Still, plasma are awesome weapons.

Just make sure you understand how the different damage boosters work. They are not all the same and you really can't tell unless you test them. The sci consoles boost base weapon damage only. So you are not getting a true 10% boost. More like 1-2%. Compare that with the antiproton omni and warp core which effect total damage thus you get a huge boost. If you want to know how much something is impacting your damage go to space and hover the mouse over a weapon and look at it's listed damage. Then remove or add the item to your ship and check again.

Antiproton and Rommy plamsa are the 2 best damage dealers in that order with disruptors right there too.

Well I don't want to grind for something and buy it just so I can see if it's worth getting or not, that's why I'm on here. XD Currently working with disruptors, but I could see myself easily changing to something else once I start buying the Vulnerability locators. So AP is definitely the best? Don't think I'd use the obelisk set on my main, because a fleet warp core with [AMP] looks like it'd give just as good a bonus, plus I use DHCs on my main. Would it still be worth getting a console for the proc and/or threat +/-(depending if it's on a BC or a tank), or would field generators then be the better option?

Antiproton are top if you have a build with high crit and if you solo. Disruptor and ROM plasma are more team fri ndly and don't rely on crits.

If you want to go with Anti Protons, you'll have to grind and farm for all the Crit boosting consoles, so as to make AP weapons worthwhile (standard AP, not Voth or Fluidic AP).

It's also advisable to go with a Romulan Captain for the Romulan Operative Trait ( 1.5% Crit chance & 3.8% Crit Damage) and acquire a full Romulan Boff layout, each with with the Superior Romulan Operative trait (2% and 5% respectively).

AP weapons are pretty incredible when you're running around with 24%+ CritH and 170%+ CritD unbuffed. Only downside is the cost of Min-Maxing like this. It can be hideously expensive.

If you want something cheap and cheerful, that gives you a lot of bang for your buck, Corrosive Plasma weapons introduced with the Delta Lockboxes will serve you well.

Tribble, little or no grind, easy testing, and no buyers remorse.
