I played a little bit between one and two years ago, and it seemed slower than it is now. I'm only on the fifth mission (Stop the Signal), and I'm already at level 12. The minimum required for the mission is 4, so I'm assuming I'd be at 4 or 5 if I were playing two years ago. I haven't really done any side missions. Just a couple of the tutorial missions and that's it. Am I just imagining it?
Ah, there's currently a bonus exp event going on right now before the launch of the new expansion. The normal leveling rate is lower than what you're seeing right now.

That makes a lot of sense then, thank you. Another quick question. Do the missions scale to your level now? Because I was level 11 in the last mission, which minimum requirement was level 3, and it still seemed pretty difficult in some of the space battles.

Yep, all the enemies you fight will scale up to your level. Same with mission rewards too. A mission might give you a MK II at a low level, but will give you a MK XI once you get to 50.

Yes mobs do scale up
It seems difficult too because of the free ship reward system early on for Romulans and KDF. At level 10-20-30-40 you get a free ship token that allows you to buy a better ship. The problem is at early levels that free ship token is tied to episode missions. Later on in the game though they are just tied to character level. So that means that early on it is possible to level up so fast that you are level 18 fighting a level 18 enemy ship that is normally level 8-9. And you'll be doing it in your starter ship when you should be in a level 10/tier 2 ship. But you cant buy that level 10/tier 2 ship for free yet (you can buy it with dilithium though) since the free ship token is tied to a quest which you havent done yet.
TLDR the leveling process, especially early on is all jacked up because of the double xp event.

So far as I know the missions have always scaled to level. At least I've been playing for over two years and they did my first day in game.

Thanks for the explanation. Luckily, I got my tier 2 ship already; so it won't be too problematic.

Not always, though it's a pretty old change. Mission replay was added in season 3, but I can't remember if level scaling was only on replay at the time or not. I want to say first-play scaling was added in season 5 when the level curve was accelerated.
