Where are the best places to get Tech Upgrade consumables.

hydrafacehydraface Member Posts: 41 Arc User
Hello again all

I want to boost some items and want to use the Tech Upgrade system to do so. What I find hard to find are the accelerator components. What is the most efficient way to acquire these bits, as well as the other (ideally top-of-the-line) tech upgrade components?

The upgrade system's here, may as well embrace it!

Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Tech upgrades = If you have a good crafting friend, he could make them for free. If you haven't started yet, I suggest you start grinding those R&D schools. It will take you 100 days.

Accelerators are tied to R&D boxes in the Zen store.

Even if it is completely broken?? seriously guys. I will never understand why people complain in these forums about bugged released content, if you guys cant even wait until it is fixed. Sometimes i think all of these guys are 10 years old kids lol. And i am not calling kid to anyone but it is the behaviour i see most of the times (dont get me wrong, i wish i was again 10 years old LOL).

    er......because its not completely broken.

Parts of it, the vast majority of it actually, works just fine.

Is it perfect? Far from it, but its not completely broken.

Accelerators are only from the R&D box you buy in the c-store.

A system that is not 100% working as intended is a broken system. Period.

So, you must be another one that think the loadout system is working as well. Right?

I will never be surprised about the lack of quality control STO has. Not with players like you lol. Seriously.

A LOT of items still cant be upgraded, others will be upgraded with wrong procs or stats, others will dissapear. So, in your words, "works just fine". And people wonder why this game is worst day after day lol.

Making them via crafting is a much better (economic) option though, since at least the level 5 and 10 ones, only require white and green materials, which are fairly easy to gather for free.

Crafting level 10 tech upgrades is probably the sweet spot. The level 15 superior tech upgrades are what you want to use but to make them you do have to have a considerable supply of a VR material (which can be difficult to come by without very targeted PVE grinding). With the level 10's you only need uncommon matierals which are easy to come by, in just about every part of the game besides battlezones and adventure zones, and reasonably cheap on the exchange if it comes to that. They also sell well and that's the key point.

For about half a dozen Rare Tech Upgrades sold on the exchange you can buy a Very Rare Tech upgrade and, when all is said and done, for fraction of the work.
Been seeing them drop in Crystal Catastrophe [Elite], on occasion, as well.

ISE and VCE too. I think superior tech upgrades have been added to the standard loot table of a lot of PVE's.

LMAO then that means that everything in my life including me is broken, awesome, pressure off!

My leg its broken, its operating in a way that wasn't originally intended of pelvic fin evolution or of subsequent adaptations to an arboreal lifestyle....

Bubblebafle, you might want to lower the bar a little. Its not working as intended.

Tech upgrades have been added to all the loot tables, you can even come across them in episodic missions.

Accelerators are currently only available via the R&D Crafting box from the C-Store (Z-Store) and from the last two and this weekend's Upgrade event (only 1 major boost per toon). According to the dev blog here, http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/7005783-gear-upgrade-system, accelerators will also be rewarded in certain missions.

well I think it's the only way I'll get my MK XII harg'peng torpedo. I think the KDF doff mission is gone and they added it to one of the missions.

I'm pretty sure it isn't (unless they axed it within the last week or so.)

Thanks for the info on that. I haven't gotten to level 15 myself, yet. (Most of my toons are either not doing crafting, or are just approaching 14; I've just been running 20's since the system launched, minus about a two week vacation about six weeks ago. Plus side is so far, the only cost involved has been buying a handful of R&D doffs, and I've more than made back that by selling some of my blue and green mats on exchange).

At this point there's actually not that much to getting 15's. The trait and weapon project are nice and the superior upgrade project helps burn off any of a given type of VR resources you have lying around but in terms of profit the price of the more particular R+D matierals is nearing the same as the superior upgrade. When upgrades were first introduced the price difference was a LOT bigger so as a level 15 crafter you could make a lot of EC but now its only a marginal amount comapred to just selling rare and very rare resources directly.

Certainly keep those 20hr projects going, but don't make it a special effort to get a level 15. It helps, but it helped the most a couple weeks ago.

You forget the supply will go on a nosedive once people want to get their gear to epic.

In another note, was there a thread merge I wasn't aware of done because there seem to be 2 different topics going on here at the same time, and the other one doesn't really contribute to anything.

A system that is not 100% working as intended is a broken system. Period.

    Nope.

What you've done there is use a definition of broken, so broad, it applies to virtually everything on the planet.

And, you've smartly sidestepped my original criticism of your original comment.

    You said, completely broken.

Not a bit broken, but completely.

You are quite obviously wrong in this application of hyperbole because I was able to craft a Mk XIII UR Plasma Sniper rifle from scratch.

Therefore, the system does work, at least some of the time.

So, you must be another one that think the loadout system is working as well. Right?

So, attack me on a new front, one I've never even commented on in the fora, to distract from my criticism of your hyperbole.

You really are gaining a interesting reputation on these fora.

Interesting but not what you might call trusted.
I will never be surprised about the lack of quality control STO has. Not with players like you lol. Seriously.

    Again with the ad hominem.

STO does have issues with quality control and I've been as vocal about that as anyone.

But I avoid hyperbole, because it undermines any credibility there is in my original position.

You may well find that you are able to convince more people, have your voice heard more clearly, if you'll avoid the ad hominem and the hyperbole.

He did skip over one thing.... Trellium. Certain of the VR mats are MUCH easier to obtain than others. Some even sell for very low prices on the exchange. Mostly Trellium.... due to the people who grind Borg STFs all day for dil.

And if not... the basic (R&D level 5) upgrades are also available via the ground equipment vendor on Qo'noS.... very likely, though I have not checked, the same for the Federation (ESD). 10k EC each, and they are NOT bound in any way.

Making them via crafting is a much better (economic) option though, since at least the level 5 and 10 ones, only require white and green materials, which are fairly easy to gather for free.

Hmm. The vendor used to sell upgrades but the store option has not been available since the first event weekend. Same thing on Romulus. I just went came back from both vendors just to make sure. Not sure about the Fed side however.

The Upgrades can be crafted or bought from vendor(whites) or exchange, and drop randomly I have had 2 purple Upgrades drop while doing Tau Dewa sector patrols in the past few days. Accelerators will be drops (After DR release?) or can be aquired from Csrore boxes.

Dunno about accelerators, but Tech Upgrades can be obtained from a variety of sources, but they are very rare drops. Acquiring one can be tricky though 'cuz drops mostly occur in queued PvE missions and most people grab them. I went through a dry spell or sorts... 10 attempts to snag one when playing eSTFs didn't even reward me with a lump of coal 'cuz other players rolled higher than me.

Only once was I ever guaranteed to get the Tech Upgrade, because it dropped when I was doing a Foundry mission. This only occurred once out of over 40 foundry missions; I play these missions on a regular basis.

Its good ec for a doff mission when you vendor the torp. Critting a marauder raid gives more, so would the contraband missions, but its not a bad one by any stretch.
